I was surprised with the most cutest puppy for mother's day ( yes) just a little early. We are camping at ft.Wilderness May 1 -9, I do not have a doggie site, she weighs in at 2 pounds. she goes for her 2nd set of doggie shots Friday, we leave Sat. I am just wondering should I find a sitter for her and not take her or will I just confuse her because I just got her. She may not know who she belongs to if we leave her this soon... and is she to young to go camping I am not sure of the rules at disney. I probably will not let her out of the camper, and just bring pee pee pads, the rabbits are bigger than her.

I have never camped @ disney with a dog.. (She is 4 months old)

I am just praying they have a doggie site for us

suggestions welcome

They have increased the number of pet sites recently, so hopefully you should be able to get one.

Give CRO a call and see if they can upgrade your reservation now.

Does the puppy whine/bark much? That would be my only fear, as young dogs tend to whine when their "pack" is missing.

Congratulations on your new family member!

I'd check with your vet to be sure that it is okay to take the baby with you. Even if you don't let the pup out of the camper, you may bring in some doggie germs on your shoes. If the vet okays it, take a copy of the pup's shot records. FW requires this and you'll have to sign that you have it.

Have a super trip!

No the puppy does not whine at all. I bought a portacrib at a garage sale, put in a blanket and a stuff animal and she is very content. I have not heard her bark yet. she goes Friday for her second set of puppy shots. I called the CRO today and she said to call the kennel and I could not get through both time I tried. I guess I will find a friend to keep her... But I am worried about leaving her for 9 days. because I have only had her for 8 days I do not want her to get confussed as to who she belongs to.

I'm confused (not surprising to people who know me)--did CRO tell you to call the kennel because they couldn't give you a pet loop? If they can give you a pet loop and the vet says it is okay I'd take the pup. Get her used to a crate now at home and take the crate to keep her safe when she is alone in the rv. Come back frequently to let her potty (they DO NOT want to potty in the crate but will in the back corner if necessary) and don't worry about her. At 2 pounds, I doubt if she could even be heard outside the camper--haha!

I wouldn't think about using the kennel unless you have a pop-up or tent and they won't let you leave a pet alone in those.

She'll do fine. It will make your part of the trip a little more complicated but you'll have lots of good bonding time with her and you'll be able to start her out early learning how to be a good camper!!

My 2 cents from a guy who has had dogs all his life (and I'm 47 now). This is a pretty critical time in training and developing socialization skills in a puppy. It really demands a lot of attention. Personally, I wouldn't feel good about leaving a new puppy in a camper all day while I was in the park. I know the staff at the kennel probably won't be too enthusiastic about boarding one that young, either. Several years ago we first boarded our beagle there when he was 11 months old. They were real adamant about me walking him more than the usual 2 times for adult dogs (puppy bladders are pretty small, and they tend to like to drink a lot, for some reason - bad combination).

Anyway, that is my thought on the subject - for what it's worth.

I have thought about all of these things. I am probably worrying over it to much...

The CRO toldeme to call the kennel because she was not sure what shots had to be completed before she could come in the camp ground.

We are in loop 1000 already which is an overflow loop from what I have been told.

Tinkerbell sleeps in a pet Taxi at night, but during the day she is in a portable playpin. Once the vet gives the o.k. I will decide, I am leaning towards taking her because granny is going with us and she will be at the camper a bunch she can not hold out for a long day she is 83, so she will be able to let her out for potty breaks... I have never used those pee pee pads, are those helpful for potty training?

take your puppy, dont worry about what loop you get. we just got back. when we where riding our bikes around there were dogs in loop that aren't pet loops at all.

What kind of puppy is she? We have a 5 lb. Pomeranian, he is 3 years old. He is housetrained AND uses the peepee pads. I love them! If we're home, he'll let us know when he wants to go outside. But if we're not home, at work, etc., he uses the pads. My vet told me to put the pad inside a small litter box. Just the pad in the box, no litter. That way there is no mess if he misses. It's great.

Take him!!! I would take him with me. Isn't it better there with you, then home with strangers? If you're not boarding him, you don't have to worry about shots. They don't ask for papers if he's kept at your site. I'm sure you can get a pet loop. Just make sure you come home and visit him during the day. We take our dog and cat with us and come home atleast twice a day. More if it's a long day. You will sleep easier too, knowing he's with you being well cared for.

Here's another suggestion (for what it's worth) :D

Did you get the puppy from a breeder? If so, maybe the breeder would take her back for the 9 days you are gone! Tinkerbell won't get confused, because it would be a familiar place. And, you won't have to worry about her while you're on vacation!

When you get back, just bring her back home and she'll settle right back in like she did before.

Of course, if you bought her at a pet store, then this idea won't work. :teeth:

We were just at FW in February with our new Shih-Tzu puppy. She was only 12 weeks old when we went. We did exactly what you plan on doing .... used the pee-pee pads and all. We had a very relaxed trip last time and someone was almost always at the camper with her, but we are very glad we took her. The longest she was alone was when we went down to Crockett's for pizza. She behaved beautifully and loved Fort Wilderness. We did keep her only on our lot, so as not to let her inter-mingle with lots of other dogs. Overall, we figured that this is just part of "what we do", so she might as well have her first experience early on!

thanks for all the help guys, Tinkerbell is a chichuahua/Dashund mix she has a great disposition. A bundle of energy.

We will probably take her with us, just waiting on the vet to let us know what he thinks

Cannot believe we leave Saturday, I have not even started packing.... I guess it is time to start

I called the CRO today and she said to call the kennel and I could not get through both time I tried.

Hopefully you have a hardside camper. I wouldn't kennel her at that age.

hey guys we are back and had a wonderful time... We took tinkerbell and she did wonderful, we kept her in a playpen most of the time, with her being so tiny (3 pounds) but gaining weight.
the vet suggested we not let her roam around just yet. She loved camping, leash training is definately going to be a challenge. I appreciate all your suggestions and I am glad we took her. Yellow flies were terrible.
She celebrated her 4 month birthday while at disney.
