Pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.. A "must" or not?

Egg nog - yum!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Well there you go C. Ann you are trying to gain weight so get drinking! I just bought some today and there are 180 calories in a 1/2 cup! A cup of that a day will add some calories pretty quickly and deliciously.

I am so hungry now, pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes and egg nog isn't that a complete meal?

I always make mine from scratch to, bought just isn't as good. and you have to have either home-made whipped cream or the stuff in the can nothing else will do.

Pumpkin pie is a must for me on Thanksgiving. It's just not Thanksgiving without it!

Prayers for you Cinderella94..

As for pumpkin pie, I didn't grow up with it, we only had sweet potato... and we WILL be having that!!:thumbsup2

Pumpkin pie? yes, yes, yes. In fact, I would be satisfied if I only had a pumpkin pie.

At BJ's they had a pumpkin cheesecake by the Cheesecake Factory :cloud9: it was so good!

The blueberry cream cheese pie sound AmAzInG! care to share your recipe?

Cinderella :flower3::hug:so sorry you are having that done good luck and you will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Good news though, pumpkin pie is good anytime.

Prayers for you Cinderella94.

As for the pumpkin pie ... YES. I MUST have pumpkin pie! I think I could eat that and nothing else and be completely satisfied. Preferably, with one whole pie for myself. Yes - I really do like it that much!

Thank you all! That is true, I'll have to have my pumpkin pie later on :thumbsup2.

Why didn't I think of that when I ran out to the General Store..:headache:

This may sound strange, but I'm scared to death to make egg nog from scratch.. I've had food poisoning several times (one time severe enough to be hospitalized for a week) and I'm afraid that the eggs won't be good, it will go bad quicker, maybe it needs some kind of preservative added to it, etc..

Every time I have had food poisoning it's been soooooo painful - tends to make me very, very careful about food..

I do remember my grandma getting very, very sick one time - she was in the hospital and had lost a lot of weight.. They were pretty much force-feeding her egg nog non-stop and she did gain weight..:thumbsup2

I'm just afraid to make it myself though.. I know it's silly, but serious food poisoning is no "walk in the park"..:(

When I said from scratch I meant the pie, sorry oops. I'm so busy drooling over the pie I can't think straight!

I don't make my own egg nog either. I'm also a little leery of doing it and it just doesn't keep as well and since I"m the only one who will drink it now that my DD is gone I just buy it.

Sorry, C. Ann. In this household it is a NOT!

We hate Pumpkin pie. Apple pie here. Made from scratch! :)

My DD12 specifically requested I make pumpkin pie this year. I am buying ready-made pies this year (I am a little miffed I have to do Thanksgiving again), but I will make pumpkin for my daughter.

Yeah - Dson-in-law has to have Dutch Apple Crumb Pie.. But that's okay - because it's just DD & I fighting over the pumpkin pie.. LOL..

Last year DGD didn't like pumpkin pie - this year, who knows? I recently found out several things she has developed a taste for that she didn't really care for previously..:goodvibes

How old is your granddaughter? Children younger than 5 or so change a lot with what they like and don't.

Just turned 12 a couple of months ago.. She's always been very open to anything (all of the good foods), but ironically, a little picky with the desserts and junk foods.. Go figure.. LOL..

Pumpkin pie, definitely. My late mother's recipe, from scratch. Her recipe is a lot more creamy and custardy than many I've seen recently. Luscious, creamy, spicy, sweet deliciousness, topped with fresh whipped cream! Killer stuff.

Strangely enough, we get a male/female split on Thanksgiving desserts. Apple pie for the guys, pumpkin for the gals--but some take a small piece of both!

That's probably a good thing.

Dutch Apple, definitely. I hate pumpkin pie and never eat it but this year I'm hosting a few family members for Thanksgiving so I feel I have to have it. I'm not going to make a traditional pumpkin pie though, I'm going to make a pumpkin mousse pie. I may even try a piece.

True.. LOL.. The last (new) thing she mentioned to me that she now likes (in terms of dessert) was lemon meringue pie.. I almost fell out of my chair! Actually she said she "loved" it.. I mean I "like" it, but it has to be a very, very, very thin slice because it still tastes bitter to me..

She's never been a soda fan either.. Always walking around with a bottle of water..

But as you say, it's a good thing..:thumbsup2

Pumpkin pie is a must for my DH, I make a pumpkin pie cheesecake for the kids and myself but DH is allergic to it so I make the pie for him.
