Pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.. A "must" or not?

Prayers for you, Cinderella!

As for the pie, YES!! Pumpkin is a must, but I make it with egg nog instead of evaporated milk. Yum!

I also make a pecan pie that is to die for! My BIL requested it as his "last meal" before he had gastric bypass surgery.

Our family has Pie Night the night before Thanksgiving, where we all bring pies of all flavors and varieties, and indulge in small slices of them before we stuff ourselves with turkey, etc. Last year we had over 30 different pies! Can't wait for it this year!!!

Cinderella94, big hugs and lots of prayers being sent your way. :grouphug:

Honestly, I can't imagine Thanksgiving w/o yummy pumpkin pie :guilty:. I LOVE anything pumpkin ~ cake, muffins, my DD's pumpkin roll, cookies, cheesecake, soup, and even coffee creamer :goodvibes! For the holiday we even treat ourselves to pumpkin pancakes, love IHOPS!! puckerup:

Without it, there really isnt much of a reason to even have the meal.... ;)

Nope. This year I'm making a cherry pie and a pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake is a new recipe so I hope it's good.

Absolutely a must. I've made it every year for my family since I was about 10, and the last few years have used the fat free evaporated milk (no one noticed a thing). I think there'd be a lynching if I ever showed up without the pie! ;)

ICK!! pumpkins are what you carve for halloween, not what you eat at thanksgiving. JMHO.

I'm like you C.Ann, I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE!! Creamy and delicious!!

If I wouldn't be in the hospital this Thanksgiving recovering from my colostomy...yes, it would be!

Well that is:sad1:. I was admitted to the hospital in 06 the day before Thanksgiving and stayed in ICU for 2 weeks, It was hard not being able to share TGD with my family ( I still remember it like yesterday). Sending hugs and prayers your way!

? little harsh don't you think JMHO

uh...the OP asked, a must or not. not for me. that's my opinion. i think pumpkins are for carving, not eating. but, as i stated, that's just my opinion. others in my family eat pumpkin pie occasionally, and more power to them. i think it's gross, and i doubt i'm the only person in the world who thinks so. if you enjoy it, enjoy away. have a nice day.

I guess I have a pretty thick skin because I don't get offended if not everyone likes the same foods I do. I don't think it was harsh at all. I don't like parsnips but love pumpkin pie and that doesn't offend DH who is the opposite.

momof1princess--just means more pumpkin pie for me! Sorry, but you'll have to eat parsnips. ;)

Not for me. But I love a lot of other pumpkin desserts!

hahaha ;) i think i'll skip that meal, if that's okay!

Prayers for you Cinderella94..

As for pumpkin pie, I didn't grow up with it, we only had sweet potato... and we WILL be having that!!:thumbsup2

Me too ! I thought it was a southern thing but you grew up in Brooklyn right?
We always had Sweet potato and Pecan pies. DH has to have pumpkin and usually is the only one eating it, as we live close to MY family ;)
I've discovered since being married to him that I don't like anything pumpkin, except the smell of a pumpkin with a candle inside :thumbsup2
