I work in the best building in Boston. From my office I can see Boston Harbor, a beautiful site on any day. Well, as I'm looking outside the window, I see a ship pulling into the harbor, a daily occurance. Well, this ship is non other than, the USS John F. Kennedy. She's a beautiful aircraft carrier. Here's what she looks like as she's leaving Mayport, Florida.

I saw it on the news. Lovely.

:thumbsup2 Cool picture and you have such a great view I bet!

When they moved the Intrepid down the Hudson River a few months back, it was amazing to see.

Aircraft carriers are one of my favorite navy ships.

What an amazing view you have everyday. Between that and the DIS I wouldn't get any work done.

The JFK is coming to Boston for tours as part of it'e farewell tour...it is being de-commissioned...went on it in 1989 or 1990 when it was in Boston...awesome ship...I'd love to have your view...I'm down the road from you in Salem and I get to look out at an abandoned railroad track.

About an hour ago, we got to see it pass outside our office windows. We are right on the harbor also, so we have an awesome view. I just wish I'd been able to take a few photos, but with the sun coming in off the water and the glare of the windows, the pictures would never have done it justice. I may try to head over that way before it leaves on Sunday so I can get some photos. Wonder if hubby would want to come into town on Saturday to do the tour.

The last of the "Oil Burners". The JFK is based just up the road @ NS Mayport. It's a really big deal locally.

She's being decomissioned late this month & then it's off to the Mothball fleet somewhere.

She's a pretty ship, but is really just worn down. The Navy has been pouring hundreds of millions of $$$ into her just to keep her combat ready. It's time for her to rest.

I went on that carrier as a kid in 1980 when the Tall Ships were in Boston. It left a huge impression on me, so cool. I remember we were on the tour and my little brother had to go to the bathroom and one of the naval officers took him and gave him a personal tour of areas that were off limits. He was so lucky. Of course, that was pre-9/11 days, now you can't even bring a bottle of water on board.

Anyway, it's a wicked cool thing to see a floating airport!
