Pulled the trigger!

With the minimum direct increase we finally pulled the trigger since we want to start with lower points and add on as needed. In the end we were really debating OKW vs Riviera but decided to go with Riviera despite the restrictions and higher price per point. I know there is a lot of contention around Riviera but the "buy where you want to stay" and longer deed length is what sold it for us. I have been waiting over five years (while stalking the forums) for us to get our financials in a spot where we could make this huge purchase. It doesn't feel real yet despite the very real amount of money that has left my bank account haha :)

I was worried we wouldn't have enough time before the June 3rd deadline but the direct purchase process is scarily quick. We didn't finance so maybe that had something to do with it but we had a membership number and points within a few hours. They tried to push the December UY, which didn't work for our vacation schedules but our guide was able to get us the one we wanted. We had a DVC "research" trip booked for July using rental points where we were going to check out the resorts before we made our decision but we played right into Disney's manipulating hands with the upcoming increase.

Does anybody happen to know what you get in the mail with a direct purchase? Should I expect a welcome packet of some kind and our DVC member cards?

Congrats, and we bought in back in 2015 and we couldn’t be happier with our purchase, I think you will be too!

Welcome home! You should be getting the most expensive backpack ever and some magnets, and a cute certificate in regards to your purchase with the blue card. Riviera is a great choice!

Congratulations!! Welcome home. :) We have a resale contract with OKW and our direct purchase with Riviera! We have never seen it in person but we are going to Disney on Thursday so hoping we can go visit during our stay. We are thrilled to own here and hope to stay there sometime soon.

Woohoo! it is my favorite resort and so happy for you. I don’t know if you have a Disney visa but you can pay for it using that and get 6 months 0% interest.

You can even get them to charge you over 60 to 90 days so you get even more time to pay. We did that even with the cash we had plus we got the rewards!

Do you know how many "installments" they will break up the Disney Visa charges? Is it 30, 60, 90? I'm debating a 100 point purchase ahead of the June 3rd deadline to get me up to 125 Direct points and am curios how I might maximize the zero percent period.

I have used 30 but others here in the board have gotten up to 90!

So happy for you! welcome home! And impressive to do it without financing. We “own” at Riviera but it will be a while until we own at Riviera. Haha.
And I get how a lot of people in these boards dislike the financing option, and overall I agree any interest sucks. But we bought our first DVC direct at AKV in our late 20’s and financed after putting 20% down for 5 years. It allowed us to buy direct at AKV in the 90’s where If we would have waited the same 5 years to pay cash the direct price had increased almost as much as the interest had built up over the same time frame. So for us on that first purchase it worked out okay.

I have gotten it spread over 90 days. I put minimum deposit upfront, then $500-$1000 at 30 days, $500-$1000 at 60 days, and balance at 90 days, which effectively gives me 9 months 0% financing (AND 2% back) on the majority of the balance.

Totally! The price keeps going up which negates part of the financing. Plus I’d have no points for 5 years. Tee hee. Best debt ever :) ok other than the mortgage. :).
