Does anyone know where I can get the receipe for the Puffed French Toast served at the Crystal Palace?? Our Server told us how they made it, but I didn't write it down... I know I should have, but I didn't......

I know it's texas toast, dipped in pancake batter, and put into a deep fryer, but I forget what else he mentioned.

Anyone know?? Thanks!!!

Here you go...
This is in one of the older "Cooking With Mickey" cookbooks. Not sure if the Mouse still sells it, but it (and its successor) are chock-full of good recipes from all around the Disney entertainment empire.
Hope it turns out for you.

PUFFED FRENCH TOAST
2 whole eggs
2-1/2 TBLS sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. milk
1 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
12 slices Texas style toast, cut in half diagonally
cinnamon sugar mix (4 tsp. cinnamon + 3/4 c. granulated sugar)

Mix eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, and milk until blended. Slowly add flour and baking powder; mix until smooth. Dip bread in batter. Fry in hot skillet with 1" oil until browned. Drain on paper towels; roll in sugar mix.

thanks, that sounds like it... we had looked in one of the cooking with Mickey books when we were at MGM but couldn't find it in the current issue they had. Our Server mentioned they roll the texas toast in pancake batter.... that must be the same thing as the flour here??

Thanks for your help

oh my goodness that sounds so good. I am going to try some this weekend.
thanks for sharing.

Texas Toast is just a lot thicker slice of bread.

Texas Toast is enriched white bread that's slightly thicker than sandwich bread. (It's about one-inch thick.)

yyyyuuumm, I going to the store now to get some texas toast!!! I'm making myself hungry. Thanks everyone!

I have tried this recipe a number of times but it never ends up like CP puffed french toast. When you try it, does it taste the same?

I was out at the grocery store this morning trying to find texas toast. I had no idea what it was and the only thing I could find was frozen garlic texas toast. I am five months pregnant and really craving this!!!!!!! Has anyone ever made it with any other bread? Please help me!!!!!!!! :earsboy:

That's all I can find is the garlic texas toast too!! I was going to try it with just regular bread and see what happens. In the meantime, I'm always on the lookout for the regular texas toast.

I'm going back down Labor Day weekend, so I'll ask them when we're there for breakfast and let you know what I find out.

I am with you on this one. When we were at CP in Jan, they told me to use Wonder Bread but they don't sell that kind of bread in my area. I love the recipe but it still is not as good as CP puffed french toast. :sad2:

Could you try Italian bread that you slice yourself?

To answer the question about flour, it looks as if the ingredients are for a pancake mix, so yes, the flour and eggs and so forth could make pancakes.

Maybe you could go to a bakery and have them slice white bread into the 1 inch slices? There is really nothing special or different about Texas toast other than the thickness. :)
