We will be staying at Horizons, which is near Sea World.

As far as I know, the closest grocery store is a Publix, about 2 miles away.
I am planning to do my grocery shopping there, since we will be doing a lot of cooking in the time share. Are the prices reasonable.

There are also other options: Costco, Target, Walmart...more like 7-8 miles from time share.

I am planning on buying easy meal stuff as well as sunscreen, shampoo and conditioner, etc. (maybe, I may pack them).

I also need a place to download from my digital camera and put photos on CD. Our laptop burned out. :confused3 I think CVS is close.

Thanks for any advice on the best places to shop, etc. :thumbsup2

Hey there! We are doing this exact same thing. But we are staying at Fairfield's Bonnet Creek instead. I would like to know the same thing about Publix.

Mr. Mike

Publix is a great place to shop. Prices are very good. You also don't need a store card to get the specials of the week.

When I don't need to do a lot of shopping I always go to Publix. Try their sandwiches at the deli. They are delicious.

Publix is our favorite general grocery store in the WDW area. Their prices aren't too bad, their customer service has been great (like if you ask where something is, or if they carry something) and the aisles are usually wide enough to maneuver through easily. :)

Publix is great. It's our local grocery store (need to start making our grocery list here for the week as I type this).

The prices are good, and the food is good. We, too, have a timeshare and hit Publix as soon as we arrive. Breakfast burritos are our fav. Easy & quick to make, very little cleanup, plus they're portable to take in the car on the way to the parks. (Don't forget to buy aluminum foil, tho, to wrap them up).

I would not recommend the Wal-Mart/Targets for food. I don't know; the food we've bought there just tastes different.

We are Costco members. You need to pay around 35 bucks to become a member. You can get good deals on shampoo, cream rinse, bottled water/drinks, snacks. Keep in mind that it's a warehouse, so these are industrial sizes! My shampoo lasts me two months when I buy it there. My only hesitation shopping at Costco once you're already in Orlando is bringing back all the stuff you didn't use back home.

We use Walgreen's for our photos. The prices are better than CVS, at least here, about two hours north of Orlando. The Walgreen's in Orlando also has liquor stores attached to them if that might be a benefit for you.

Click HERE for an online Publix ad for a store in Kissimmee, so you can compare prices.

My housing development is next door to the Publix that you would be going to by Horizons.

From my experience, Publix is higher priced on most food items and definately on things like sunscreen. But it is convenient.

If you are looking to save money I would recommend going to Super Target in Hunter's Creek located on Orange Blossom Trail and Town Center Blvd. Maybe about a 10 minute drive from Publix. Their food prices are much cheaper and of similar quality--they also have a photo center where you can take care of your picture needs. (The CVS located near Publix is OLD and kind of gross, don't think I would ever buy anything there).

Have fun on your visit!

EL, I am guessing you are referring to the the "Williamsburg" Publix, based on your (dead-on accurate) description of the CVS next door. I live across the street from Horizons and would say the Publix at Apopka-Vineland is much easier to get to and get home from (right turn out of Horizions, then a right at the first traffic light), and is also bigger and cleaner. It's my regular store, I only go to the Williamsburg one if I happen to be down there. The Apopka-Vineland site also has a Walgreens that is bigger and newer than the CVS mentioned above.

Prices at Publix tend to be pennies higher, but I think it is worth it for the pleasure of avoiding the zoo that is Super Wal Mart.

Speaking of which, there is also a Super Wal Mart on 535 which is about 10 minutes from here. Follow I-Drive south all the way to 535.

Jason,

I totally agree with the zoo of super walmart here in Orlando!! And the funny thing is, I need to go today to get some pet supplies that are sooo much cheaper there, and I have been putting it off all morning!

I do know the Publix you are referring to right near the Premium Outlets and you're right that would be better for this visitor!

I lived at the Vinings at Westwood apartments on Westwood Blvd. when I moved here and that Publix was just trees at that time!

Good Point!

Thanks for all of the advice.

We may use Target or Walgreens for our photo needs.

We will probably use Publix for all of our shopping. The one that my Yahoo maps program pulled up is 5350 Central Florida Pkwy. Is this the Williamsburg one or the Apopka Vineland site? I'd like to go to the one with Walgreens next door.

I was thinking of Costco for easy meals (rotissire chicken, etc.)...but will probably not bother...also Costco here is good for photo services.

Thanks for such great advice.

We do most of our grocery shopping at Publix. The selection is better. They're also the best option for putting together an easy meal. We only go to Winn Dixie for the sale items, which are a great deal. You need a WD card to get the sale price though. Super Walmart is much cheaper, but meats aren't as high in quality. Super Target has similar offerings as SW, but isn't as cheap.

lol, I know The Vinings well, 'cause I'm there now!

We always hit Sams Club for our initial shopping trip, then usually go to Publix after that. I find them about the same as our major chains here, such as Krogers. The only thing that always seems more expensive than home is milk.

I like the Walmart on US 27 - but that is so far away....

I really though there was a Walgreen in that same shopping mall with the Publix. The street infront is International Drive. the Publix is on vineland ave.

the top one on this list

Apopka-vineland Rd is also 535

International Drive is also 536

here is the walgreens

That Publix is the one in Williamsburg, I will try to find which is the one Jason is referring to that is near Walgreens and still very close to your hotel.

We usually make at least one trip to Super Walmart for supplies and minor food items, like water, soda, cereal, and fresh fruit. And of course, souvenirs. We've also shopped at Publix.

We've downloaded our pix at Walmart and Sam's Club. We prefer Sam's Club. At Walmart you can get about 100 pix per disc. At Sams you can get at least 200 and I've even gotten at about 400 on one disc. Also, the discs are cheaper, per disc. (Of course you need a membership at Sam's) The last time we were there we went to Walmart one time-everything was fine. Second time, after we had downloaded our pix and then asked one of the staff for a disc (that's how they do it at Walmart) we were informed that the machine was down. We wasted about 15 min. downloading-very frustrating! :confused3 Then we went to Sams and downloaded there-over 200 pix on one disc. Grabbed a bite to eat (pizza combo-yummy) and then headed back to WDW.

On our next trip, hopefully I won't need to download. I recently bought a 1KB disc. That, along with my 512 should be enough space. :goodvibes Now I just need to pick up an extra battery, or two, so I don't run out of battery.

I use Sam's club for all my photo needs at home.

I miss Goodings!

Is it gone? If so, it couldn't happen to a "nicer" company. Their prices were highway robbery the couple of times we went in. I admit their food looked nice, but you need a bigger budget than ours to buy much of it.

I went to the publix link from earlier in the thread and typed in the zip. That gave me the address of the one near the Walgreens. I was able to type the address into Yahoo maps...it is also very close. :thumbsup2

Thank you for all of your shopping advice. It is always hard for me to plan for going to a place for the first time.
