Please forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place!

My 12 DS is a competative swimmer and although we are staying in a villa with a pool, he is concerned that he will not be able to do a proper training session during our 3 week stay. Are there any Public swimming pools in Orlando that he could go to do some training swims (that is when he is not watching the swimming at the Olympics - he's not happy that our holiday coincides with this as he wanted to fly out to Athens to watch some of the heats!!)

I don't think so - you must be a member of the club be it a private country club or the YMCA or YWCA. Even the neighbor pools you must join to use (at least here). I don't think you really want to join one of these places for your son to be able to use the pool - I think membership must be for at least a month - might even be a year - depends upon what the rules are.

what villa are you staying at - many have more than one pool.

I would check around to see if Orlando has Parks and Recreation Department in their city government. They may have pools in local community centers that you can pay to lap swim at. We have those here in my local city.

EDIT: I found this link here http://www.cityoforlando.net/cys/recreation/aquatics.htm . I ahve no idea how close any of these pools are to where you are staying at, though.

I don't know if you can change where you're planning to stay but Swan/Dolphin has some lap pools which might work out for you.

Here is a link to the YMCA on I-drive. You could call to ask them about open swims or lap swim times, and you can download 2 guest passes, so he could go twice for free. My Y has a student membership that you can sign up for on a monthly basis for under $20. Maybe this Y has the same.

I noticed this I-Drive Y the last time I was down there. It's no more than 10 minutes from your hotel.

Thank you so much for all your help, I think that I might try the YMCA, he would love to keep up with his training as a 3 week break is alot, he hopes to have qualified for the nationals the weekend before we fly out - and I thought that swimming would be a good sport for him to get into!!!!
