Public Beaches And Getting Around Freeport?

Has anyone taken a cab to a public beach at the Freeport stop? Thought about the Lucaya beach excursion,but it just seems so pricey!! $90 for DD(4) and I to go to the beach!!!!!!!!!

Just can not do it!! I was reading about "Gold Rock beach" or even just taking a taxi to Port Lucaya? Has anyone done this?
My Aunt and Uncle are also along on this cruise and so I was thinking we could even rent a car for the day and explore some of the more secluded beaches.

It would be about $60 for the car versus $250 for us all to do the DCL excursions? If anyone has any ideas let us know? We definetly want to do a beach day!
