Public Bathroom rant...and 3 things to improve them!

I work at a library and honestly, they must have slashed the bathroom budget as much as possible! The bathrooms are cleaned once a day, they stink, are dirty. I avoid using them as much as possible! And why why WHY do people not wash their hands?

Ok three improvements to bathrooms in general (might be a little nasty so don't say I didn't warn you!):

1. There needs to be music or some "cover up" noise. My pet peeve is being in silent bathrooms, ones where there is not even the sound of air coming through the vents. Nothing gives me the heebie jeebies more than hearing the plopping, grunting, and various other "bathroom" sounds. I almost just want to wear ear plugs. :scared:

2. There needs to be AIR FRESHENER. For crying out loud, go to Walmart and buy one of those Airwick automatic despensers or something. It's not going to break the bank and it would just be a general good thing to have.

3. There needs to be an alarm that sounds when people do not wash their hands. "Alert, the person walking out of the bathroom just took a dump and did NOT wash their hands." I just can't fathom WIPING YOUR BUTT and then not washing your hands??????

Also forgot to add I am a big fan of the courtesy flush. You feel a nice juicy one coming on, well hey, why not flush the toilet to drown out the noise.

I would be happy if folks stopped pissing on the seats.

Oh that's another one! And not flushing the toilet. Yes, I understand that many are automatic, but they don't always work and it would nice if people would press the button instead of leaving a surprise for everyone else.

I'm with you!!! The employee restroom closest to my office only gets cleaned once a day (budget cuts :confused3 ), early in the morning. I work nights so by the time I come in it is disgusting. It is ONLY used by employees, it is not in an area the public has access to, so I know that there are people working in this part of the building that are downright gross. I have seen some things in that bathroom that I did not think were humanly possible!!! On many occasions there has been poop on the floor  I have also witnessed many people not wash their hands. One is a woman I used to work with, this woman's house is spotless, it just floored me that she didn't wash her hands (witnessed on more than 1 occasion so I know it wasn't a fluke and she was going #2, YUCK!!!!) My husband also works where I work and he says the men's restroom next to the one I'm talking about is always clean :confused3 I thought men were supposed to be the ones that messed up bathrooms :teeth:

OK, I can deal with pissy seats, etc, but what grosses me more than anything is the sanitary napkin/tampon bins in the stalls. WHY OH WHY do women feel the need to display what has come from their bodies? Can't they roll the napkin up in some toilet paper? Do they really just lay the bloody napkin yucky side up and flat for display in their own wastebasket? It's really gross. :crazy2:

I agree with all of the above!

For crying out loud, how hard is it to flush a toilet?! How hard is it to "go" in the toilet instead of all over the darn seat?! How hard is it to wrap sanitary items and to dispose of them in the proper place?! My 7 y.o. dd does NOT need to see a used tampon applicator on the floor. How hard is it to take a few minutes to wash your hands? With soap.

Obviously, some people find these tasks very difficult.

For as "turbo" as the toilets are in WDW, I was glad that they did have automatic flushers. I cringe to think about how much dirtier it could have been otherwise.

Not only do I always wash my hands after using the toilet, if I'm in a public restroom and happen to use a handicapped stall that has a sink in it, I don't use that sink because I don't want to walk out of that stall and leave the restroom with other people thinking that I didn't wash my hands. Of course another good reason not to use that sink is to not tie up that stall anymore than I have to if there's a line of people, but even if people aren't waiting I don't use that sink. :rotfl:

Remember when they used to have the cloth towel "machine" for drying your hands...?

It seems like it was always stuck, so if you wanted to dry your hands, the only option was to re-use the part of the towel everyone else has been using. :sad2:

Oh God. Thinking of that now, it's just gross.

I saw my fair share of women in WDW that did not wash their hands after. They did go to the mirror and primp themselves but never washed their hands. EWW.

The pee on the toilet seat...really gross. These women must know its them too. When you walk into a stall and the seat is dry and when you leave it is wet, it must have been you! Clean it!

When I used to work retail it was usually all women working there. The employee bathroom was disgusting. I have no idea what these girls did to it but ewww. The customer bathroom was cleaner.

Why do women feel the need to leave toilet paper all over the floor!? How do you miss the toilet? This one I will never understand.

I always just use hand sanitizer. If you wash your hands and then touch the facuet, door, paper towel machine I feel like your just getting your hands all dirty again, possibly from someone else that just "took a dump" and didn't really wash their hands properly. I don't like touching ANYTHING in public bathrooms.

I agree with everything mentioned here and have one to add: I hate the hand dryer things. I want paper towels!

I heard somewhere that the hand dryer machines actually blow out bacteria right onto your hands. I wonder why that is?

I agree with all of these. I had a student employee tell me the other day, "I had no idea women were so messy!" :lmao: Well, she's young.

I work at a college so there are a lot of teenagers and women in their early 20's. Yesterday, I couldn't get to the sink what with all the primping going on! Wash your hands and then move aside, ladies.
