PTR-Does being there every day in my dreams count?

I love Disney because I think it takes me very far away from the real world. There's magic and mystery behind every corner and turn. Every show and attraction has an extra layer of detail that goes above and beyond. I think Disney world really fulfilled Walt's vision of a living, breathing, ever growing and changing park. One for children and adults. One that will never be finished.

Subbing! I will have to read later, but at least I found you! :thumbsup2

YAY! and :welcome:

AMEN, SISTA! I couldn't have said it better myself!

Chapter 9-ADRs

Prior to booking the trip I knew there were some restaurants I wanted to try and a couple I wouldn't mind going back to. Since I have had 1 trip to WDW under my belt and Mom and David haven't been there before I wanted to help guide them through the ADR process (although if I said ADR to either one of them I would probably get a look something like this ---> o_O)
One night we sat in our computer room, my brother and I were each on our laptops and my mother on the desktop. We looked through the menus on Allears, and individually wrote down 5 or 6 we'd like to do, then we combined our efforts, ran through them again, and decided what we were going with.
Here was our criteria:
At least one sit down meal in each park
As many new restaurants (for me) as possible
My brother requested that we keep the character meals to a minimum (LOL-we ended up with 3)
The restaurants that had 3 votes were must haves, 2 were should have’s, etc.
Tried to make sure that if someone was really set on a certain restaurant, even if they were the only vote-try to fit it in.

So here is what we finally came up with (with a tinnnny bit of tweaking after the initial reservations:

Tusker House (Lunch)
I ate at Tusker House during my 2009 trip, only we did breakfast that time. We chose Tusker House because we wanted to eat 1 sit down meal in each of the 4 parks, and this was the only one any of us had in Animal Kingdom. We looked at the menu and it seems pretty safe for my semi-picky eater brother. I am looking forward to not being rushed out of this restaurant as I only got to see Donald and Daisy last time, because my ex wanted us to get out and do park stuff rather than wait a few more minutes for Mickey.

Mama Melrose (Lunch)
I’m not sure what I will think of this restaurant but I’m willing to give it a try. This was a “must have” in the way that all 3 of us had it on our lists. Now I’m not saying that it’s going to be a 5-star restaurant, but we like Italian food so we should be pleased. If not, we’ll just pick somewhere else next time!

1900 Park Fare (Breakfast)
I’ve read reviews on 1900 Park Fare that go either way, but I’m going here for (a) strawberry soup and (b) the more unique characters this character meal comes with. This, for me, was a must have, although it only got one vote (mine) but they’re playing along with me on this one. I am the type of person that takes everything with a grain of salt and will appreciate everyone’s review but want to try it for myself. I’m so excited to see the Mad Hatter-I think my brother will give him a run for his money! On top of that, if Mary Poppins is there, it will be a 100 % WIN for David because this is one of his all time favorite movies!

Le Cellier (Lunch)
I wanted to do Le Cellier last time but couldn’t get a reservation so I made sure that I called and got this one immediately. This also got 3 votes! We are doing lunch to avoid having to use 2 TS on this one, and the menu seems a lot similar (although dinner has more of a selection-we’re willing to skip that). This is one of the days we are doing 2 sit down meals so when I called I asked for the “earliest lunch available” and it was around 11:30 or so. I was interested to learn that Le Cellier is going to be Signature for Lunch as well starting in 2013.

Via Napoli (Dinner)
We are doing Via Napoli the same day as Le Cellier so have a late dinner reservation (7pm or so). Our family (like most I’m sure) loves pizza and I’m really curious to see how good it is. I think we’ll be awe-struck by the pizza ovens and décor here. I believe this one got 2 votes.

50s Prime Time (Dinner)
This will be my second repeat but this one was a MUST! I absolutely loved the atmosphere and food here (Aunt Liz’s Fried Chicken-YUM!) and know my family will love to play along. My brother, by trade, is an actor, so I’m hoping we have a really fun server that we can play along with. This is also the only meal that we are booking for 5 (me, mom, brother, Wendy and Johnny!) so I’m super pumped about this meal for lots of good reasons!

Rose & Crown (Lunch)
This was the one my mother was really stuck on eating at… and we had originally picked Coral Reef (which would have been a 5th*repeat if we stuck with it) but I wasn’t stuck on Coral Reef and I want to try something new. We originally looked at Dinner but we were worried that there wouldn’t be much for me and my brother (both not lovers of seafood) are pretty safe with Chicken and the Lunch menu looks more appetizing for both of us, so we’re going to do that. I don't think anything really tickles my fancy on the menu but I'll try something! Mom was pretty pleased when we suggested we add in Rose & Crown for her as she was the only one who voted for it. Gotta make momma happy!

Crystal Palace (Lunch)
This is the third of four repeats for me. I think the food here will please everyone in my group. I think my family will really appreciate the look of this restaurant and I found the food there to be delicious. Eeyore is one of my favorites (my original favorite Disney character) so I wanna see the Pooh gang again. My brother was kind of against it because it's another character meal-but he liked the look of the menu so he agreed to do it!

Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue
I have read about this and thought about it but considering it's a 2-swipe one I wasn't sure since we already had to pay for 1 meal out of pocket. One day my mother came home from her sister's (teekathepony's mom) and she started going on about this “dinner theatre that Wendy and Johnny are going to” and how much she would love to do it. We discussed it a bit but kind of let it go for a while. A few weeks later I was at Wendy's taking a painting lesson and we were of course discussing Disney. Hoop Dee Doo came up and we talked about the day she was going... looked at my reservations that included Liberty Tree Tavern. After hearing Wendy's rendition of her experience at Liberty Tree I decided I had to get it the hell off our list... which is not an easy feat seeing as whenever I suggested a change my brother went ape s*** on me. So Wendy and I discussed how we could change my reservations to make it fit, and turn it around so David and mom would agree with little to no whining. When I got home, and after a lot of discussion, we decided to call and attempt to book Hoop Dee Doo... the only thing I was worried about was the fact that it was in the 70-ish day range and it may be booked up. Sure enough we were able to secure Category 1 seating 9:30 p.m. Show the same night that Wendy and Johnny are going. They will be in Category 2 but still-the fact that we can experience it together is awesome. I just hope that they pick my brother for something (I hear there's audience participation near the end) because my brother works dinner theatres and in the theatre all the time. SO PUMPED for this!

Boma (Breakfast)
Originally I had Chef Mickey’s in here, for breakfast on our last morning. The reason I wanted to do this restaurant was to see, well, Mickey! After realizing that we will see him at Tusker House, and knowing it would have been 5 character meals out of 10 (too many!) I chose to get rid of it. This one was my choice only, so I didn’t think it would be a big deal to change it but I got flack for it. ANNNNYYYYWAYYY I changed it to Boma. I did Boma breakfast when I was there in 2009 and boy-is this one worth going back to (for me anyway). We are huge breakfast eaters, and to take the last day where we currently don’t have a park planned, take a leisurely walk through AK Lodge and enjoy our final morning… I couldn’t think of a better way to end this trip of a lifetime. Even my semi-picky eater of a brother should be able to find lots to fill his plate, and my mother and I, the more adventurous ones will be able to try something new and different.

Taking into account that we are staying 9 nights and have chosen 10 TS meals, which includes one with 2 swipes; we will be paying for 2 of them and are completely comfortable with that. I think we have it narrowed down to Mama Melrose and Via Napoli as the ones we will be paying for according to the menus and prices. Possibly Rose & Crown? Not sure yet!

It's a good list now for sure. I can't wait until the Hoop De Doo, I think we're going to have a blast!

Chapter 10-PAID!

This evening my mother and I headed into the travel agent and paid the final payment on the trip!
7653498386_b734b4dd22_z.jpg

I can't believe how close it's coming! Honestly, I'm kind of freaking out a bit!
Disney has completely taken over my life. For example, last weekend during my lunch break this was what I did:
7653498754_e1f78e8127_z.jpg

My raspberry lemonade, teddy graham crackers, tylenol, and my book!

In other news... this is what our countdown is looking like right now.....

7653498116_d131b9d96e.jpg

Sorry I didn't realize how blurry it was on the right side until I uploaded it... but you get the picture. (pardon the pun)

Yup! 49 days to go! 7 weeks from RIGHT NOW I'll be settling into bed at my home away from home :goodvibes

With that... I'm off to finish watching some Big Brother... set my PVR to tape the opening of the London Olympics tomorrow night, and get some sleep!

I agree - Paid in full is a wonderful feeling!

Love your ADRs. Love your obsession items! :woohoo:

Paid in full!!!!

I KNOW! It's getting more and more real all the time!

I agree - Paid in full is a wonderful feeling!

Love your ADRs. Love your obsession items! :woohoo:

Thanks! We made slight changes to our ADR's from when we originally made them (took out Chef Mickeys and Liberty Tree, and added Hoop Dee Doo) but overall I think we made really good choices :)

Chapter 11-Surprise! (Don’t give me that attitude young man)

As you know by now, this is going to be the first visit to the World for both my mom and by brother. With this, comes the task of me making sure it is extra special for them.

Some worries my brother has is extra long lines, and waiting for “hours just to see parades or fireworks” in fact, I don’t think he would care if we completely skipped parades and fireworks while we are there. Don’t worry-this will not happen. I will not let it. I know he will love Fantasmic! and I’m pretty sure he’s going to go insane over Illuminations. My mom will love Wishes, as I already know she likes the soundtrack to it (it gives her chills every time she hears it).

I decided that it would be a nice surprise to do the Wishes Dessert Party…. It first got put in my head when my mom was looking through my PassPorter’s Walt Disney World 2012 and she saw it near the back of the book and mentioned it, but I brushed it off and said “you need a minimal amount of people for those kinds of parties”, not realizing that the wishes one, you don’t.

Anyway it was either the day after or two days after that my lovely and wise cousin mentioned it to me, and so I looked into it more… I think my mother and brother would both love the view of the fireworks (I’ve looked at pictures and although it’s off to the side the view seems nice) and we are dessert lovers, so that’s a plus. This would also have us avoid “sitting on a curb for an hour waiting for fireworks” which is one of my brothers main concerns.

I also realized that the party begins an hour before fireworks, which will be the same time as the Main Street Electrical Parade (if it plays the night we want to go), so we would be able to see the parade from the party as well! (maybe)

So here’s why this chapter is named what it is: I went home after work one evening and my brother saw a particularly big smile on my face, his first question was “now what are you being sneaky about” I told him nothing, and when he didn’t believe me I said “just a Disney surprise for you and mom, you’ll just have to trust me”. Well, you would think that I had just told him I was canceling the trip because he freaked out at me saying “you better not have changed any of our dining reservations…. If you don’t stop changing things and just let them be as we already decided…. Blah blah blah….” :scared1: He was carrying over his anger of me canceling one of our original reservations at Chef Mickeys-which wasn’t even a restaurant that he or mother wanted to do, for Boma!

“Don’t give me that attitude, all I’m doing is trying to plan something extra special that has nothing to do with our dining reservations” was what I told him… and left it at that.

That night, the little bugger kept bugging me for hints, which I wouldn’t give him, because if it’s something I’m excited about I’m not really good at keeping secrets… in fact I particularly suck at keeping secrets about things that excite me! He actually ended up guessing it, and I told him to keep his mouth shut or I’m leaving him home…. Or at least not letting him in on the dessert party fun.

I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the 60 day mark that I thought was the reservation time for the Dessert party. But was I able to get it? :confused3

I really hope they enjoy the Party, and I'm sure they will. I also hope they loosen up about waiting for parades and fireworks though! It's all part of it. They'll learn.

Fight-cation. Classic.
You are going to notice SUCH a difference this trip!!! I think (if possible) you're going to like Disney even more!!

I'd like to point out a problem with your chapter title; "She doesn't help the situation!"

If by she you mean me
and by "the situation" you mean your Disney obsession
and your point essentially is that I provoked you to go to Disney
which is the thing you wanted above all else
how is that not helping?

I suggest a new title for this chapter;

"My awesome, younger and smarter cousin helps everything."

:D
Haha. The addiction will never leave, fair warning.

Chapter 8-No, it’s 180 days. (Stupid Travel Agent)

So, after the decision was made, days chosen, and cast picked, we were off to the travel agent on March 13th to book our Disney vacation. As you read before, our days are September 13-22. But we booked 184 days out.

Our travel agent was really nice, shared some Disney experiences he has had, a bit of his travel experiences other than Disney and I think he was genuinely excited for us... especially once he found out it was mom and David’s first time!

The free dining was not coming up for him, so he called to book through the Disney Travel Company; and while he was on hold he said to us “you know you can start booking your dining reservations right away” and my reply was “yup, on Saturday” here’s the conversation:
TA: with Disney you can book your meals 6 months in advance
Me: no it’s 180 days, which is Saturday
TA: today is the 13th*and you guys are going on the 13th*so therefore you can do it now
Me: no it’s 180 days. Disney is very strict about that
TA: but it’s 180+10
Me: yes and that’s 10 days worth of dining after you hit your 180 day mark for your check in day, which is Saturday.
TA: just go home tonight and try it, because you will be able to start immediately
Me: (rolls eyes) ok I’ll check (knowing it won’t work)
…fast forward a few minutes after he’s been talking to Disney on the phone, booking us in, giving our information
TA: by the way when can they start booking their dining reservations… …ok…
Me: (sits there stone faced and probably raised an eyebrow in anticipation)
TA: you can start booking your dining reservations this Saturday!
Me: (mumbling to my brother) ‘no **** Sherlock’
Mom: AMY! behave!
*
Bahahahaha*exxxxcelllent.
*
I ended up booking them on Sunday, but because I worked all day Saturday... but they are booked and we got into every place we wanted!
oh man. Yay for TAs....

I'm not quite sure exactly how low the cheap seats are, but I know from reading reviews that there are no bad seats in the house. That theatre was built for the show so it has to be awesome from every angle. You should definitely give it a try! I've seen the taped version of La Nouba and it blew my mind, I know seeing it live will be absolutely amazing!

btw... :welcome: to my PTR!

recent joiner of disboards and first trip report i'm subbing to. :) i just booked our reservations for the fireworks dessert party today! it's one of the things i'm most excited about. your trip sounds like so much fun-hopefully the days fly by until you are there.

welcome to the dis!!

Debating a dessert party myself!

I really hope they enjoy the Party, and I'm sure they will. I also hope they loosen up about waiting for parades and fireworks though! It's all part of it. They'll learn.

I think once they get down there they will be fine... it's just the intial thoughts of waiting for such long times they don't get that it's not just sitting/standing in 1 spot and not moving or saying anything for an hour and being bored.

ill look it up! We almost did it in 2010, didn't know about it till mid trip though!! And thanks for the welcome!

I just checked, through regular season, category 3 seats are $73. I would suggest that if you can swing it, do it. I know Disney costs a lot to go, and I know a lot of people don't have extra money lying around for stuff like that but Cirque is amazing, no matter what show it is. I've been to 4 stadium shows, so they've been adapted slightly to fit different venues, and each have been worth the $100++ tickets.

Chapter 12-Dessert party woes! (oh noes!)

Part 1 of the Dessert Party surprise happened over 3 months ago! I had been waiting and waiting and WAITING to be able to book it because I heard that you could book it 60 days out. I set a countdown on my phone for that exact day and came home after working a DOUBLE to call Disney.

We were planning on going Sunday, September 16th with the Darlings on their first night in the World, but when I called, I couldn't get a reservation. Why? I still have no idea! I asked the Cast Member if it was fully booked? Not open? No DP that night? She just said that "it's not showing as available" She had no idea, she did a little more looking and said it looked like the Halloween Party was on the 16th... on a Sunday? NOOOOOOOoooo I immediately went to the official website and looked it up, NOPE no MNSSHP! I asked her to check for ANY night while we were there, and she said she was “not showing any availability” but to try back again as people do cancel sometimes.

At this point I was thinking “ok I know it only holds a certain number of people, but could it be THAT full, ALREADY? *scratches head* :confused3 so I decided it was time for bed. Afterall, working 2 x 12 hour shifts a week for 3 weeks with no days off kind of takes a toll on my body. :crazy2:

The next day I work AGAIN, and go out that night for a bit. I came home and decided to try again. I was going to call the Disney reservation center but got hooked on TV and by the time I realized that they were going to be closing in a couple minutes. I decided to look online to see if I could book it myself. I had looked the day before to no avail.

I found online reservations for the Dessert Party and tried the night of the 16th, nodda.

Checked a couple other days, nothing.

Hmmmm.... I didn't want to do this but...

*click click click 13th* O_O available?! That's arrival night may be too tired... :scratchin hrmmmmmm

*click click click 17th* O_O AVAILABLE?!?!:eek::eek: Ok this I can do-Just have to change a reservation around, no biggie!

So I scrabmle for my credit card as I whip out my phone to text teeka. She may be asleep but Disney magic will wake her up and make her look at her phone! This is important stuff, people! :goodvibes

Tell them you have a babysitter in your room. DO IT!

Lmao no one will say anything.
I think it's hilarious that you two of all people

I think once they get down there they will be fine... it's just the intial thoughts of waiting for such long times they don't get that it's not just sitting/standing in 1 spot and not moving or saying anything for an hour and being bored.

:welcome: to the boards and to my PTR! Glad you could join us! I can't wait to read about your plans and trip as well! What day are you going to the dessert party?

I just checked, through regular season, category 3 seats are $73. I would suggest that if you can swing it, do it. I know Disney costs a lot to go, and I know a lot of people don't have extra money lying around for stuff like that but Cirque is amazing, no matter what show it is. I've been to 4 stadium shows, so they've been adapted slightly to fit different venues, and each have been worth the $100++ tickets.
We are talking about it tonight!:)

Oh my god, that s hilarious. Wonder why you couldn't book two?

we have reservations for the dessert party on october 20th (which is actually my older daughter's 5th birthday). this is her second time going and the first trip for our two year old. i'm considering doing a trip report if i can figure out how. :)

Mmmmm love all your ADR"s! Boma is a must for us for breakfast and dinner...and if it's one of the trips where we're staying at AKL we usually do breakfast more than once!
