Pre-Trip Report The Rules
After the 90-day check-in, Poppi didnt have much left to do in preparation for the cruise. She re-read her
Disney cruise line guidebook, browsed the DIS, and enjoyed the trip reports of other cruisers. She also pondered just how much freedom she should give Pippi and Peppi on the ship. She found a few different lists of rules that parents have used for their teens and pre-teens and used them as a guide to create her own rules. The following is what she came up with:
The Rules
The overall objectives of the rules are to stay safe while having fun and to be courteous to others on the ship.
Safety
Under no circumstances are you to go to anybodys cabin nor is anybody allowed to come to ours. If you are with a new friend and they want to retrieve something from their cabin, you are to wait for them in a public area.
You will not roam or travel through any of the stateroom decks. There is no reason for you to be in any of these locations except to return to your own cabin.
Never accompany crewmembers into non-public areas. There is no reason for you to enter a crewmember area.
If you are in our cabin alone or the 2 of you together, you will be required to have the Do Not Disturb sign posted. Do not open to door to anyone - we will have keys. Not even crew members (like the room steward) are to be in there when you are by yourselves. If the room steward enters, ask him/her to come back later. If they do not immediately leave, you leave and go to Guest Services and call us from there.
You will not accept a drink of any kind from anybody other than a family member or one that you have gotten yourself from the drink station or have ordered and is brought to you by cruise ship staff. This sounds paranoid but folks have been known to drop drugs into someones drink and your safety is our utmost concern. For this same reason, do not leave your drink unattended.
During the day, you are allowed to attend activities at the Edge/Vibe, spend time in the stateroom, or spend time in the public areas of the ship. We expect to know where you are on the ship. You will be required to check in and tell us where you are going, what you will be doing and who you will be with.
At night, you must be with a parent or in the stateroom if you are not at an organized activity at the Edge/Vibe. There will be no roaming alone or with friends after dinnertime. If attending a late night Edge/Vibe activity, you are to notify us at its conclusion so that one of us can escort you from the activity back to the cabin.
Washing your hands well and frequently is the best way to stay healthy on a cruise ship. At a minimum, wash after every trip to the restroom; before every drink, snack and meal; and upon returning to the stateroom.
Courtesy
We expect you to be well mannered at all times - use please, thank you, and excuse me. Hold the doors for others that are passing through at the same time as you, allow people to get off of the elevator before you step on, etc.
Basic good behavior applies. No pushing, yelling or cursing in public areas. No cutting in lines, shouting in the halls or throwing anything. No running on the ship with the only possible exception being jogging laps on Deck 4. No splashing or jumping in the pool.
You are not to loiter/hangout or play in the stairwells, hallways, or elevators. This blocks access to other cruises and there are plenty of other public areas to hang out.
You should know that some kids find activities such as knock and run, calling other cabins to hang up, or moving/removing items from cabin doors to be fun and harmless. They are neither and will not be tolerated.
You are judged by the company you keep. If you find yourself in the company of others who are breaking our rules, you are expected to leave. If serious shenanigans are going on (any property damage or harassment of an individual), you are to report it immediately to us and/or cruise staff.
Treat the ship crew members with respect. They are there to make your cruise enjoyable, do not make it miserable for them.
Miscellaneous
You will be expected to join us for dinner. We have early seating (5:45 pm) so you will be required to be back to the cabin and ready to go by 5:30 pm. Make sure you allow enough time to get ready. We can be flexible if there is an Edge/Vibe activity you would prefer to attend as long as we have discussed it in advance.
Your Key to the World card is tied to our credit card. It is to be used only by you. You may not buy other people drinks, snacks, arcade games, or souvenirs. You will be expected to reimburse us for any charges you make.
The Wave Phone does not cost us anything to use. However, there is a $250 charge for lost or damaged Wave Phones. Keep your Wave Phone in a safe place at all times. Do not set it down anywhere and do not get it near water as it is reportedly very sensitive to moisture.
