So last night we joined some folks for dinner at Napa Rose. Our friend John has been dining with this group for some time, they are an informal supper club and call themselves the "League of Handsome Devils", this was our first dinner with the group and they picked the Napa Rose for this month. None of the guys minded my picture taking during dinner, so I took shots of everyone's dinners. In fact they were all very helpful and enthusiastic about showing their dishes for dinner.
The only thing that I KNEW I was going to order was the Smiling Tiger Salad. This is a salad of field greens atop Spicy Beef, with some Tempura Lobster and a Coconut Lime Dressing. This was my first appetizer.
These were two of the special appetizers that people ordered. They both run about $35-45. We have never tried them because they sound like too much food. This is the Seven Sparkling Sins, An Array of Tantalizations Featuring Spicy Beef & Cashew Roll, Curried Crab Taco, Citrus Cured Salmon Buckwheat Blinis, Shrimp in Cucumber Wrap with Lemon Dill Creme, Seared Ahi Nacho, Tangerine Grilled Scallop and Grape Leaves with Pheasant. For two. $45
If we leaned towards one of these it would probably be this one, the Sizzling Beach Rock, A Combination Appetizer of Garlic Seared Shrimp, Soy Glazed Spare Ribs and Lemon Grass Chicken Skewers cooked on a Hot Beach Stone. For two. $36
Fran ordered the Portabello Mushroom "Cappucino", but we split both of the appetizers.
One of the guys ordered the Salmon Carpaccio, but was alarmed to find out that it was raw. Evidently he did not know the meaning of Carpaccio. He let anyone at the table who wanted some to eat it.
Most everyone ordered a second appetizer/salad and here was the second round. I had the Scallops in a Lobster cream sauce
A couple of the guys ordered the field greens salad
Several others ordered the Potato Soup with seasonal vegetables
Fran ordered the Veal Scallopini which was part of the Vinter's Menu, but she was able to order it independently. The salad that was served with it was awesome, full of salami, pepperoni and cheese!
Next up was the Entrees. Several people ordered the Filet Mignon
Fran and others ordered the Sea Bass which was served with steam Manila clams
This was a crusted Yellowtail
Several people ordered the orichiette and cheese with truffle oil, and passed these around the table, it was very creamy and good.
Three of us ordered the Lamb Porterhouse that was served on a bed of Fettucine that was tossed in a lamb sauce with Portabello Mushrooms and braised lamb shank. The reason I describe it so well is that my picture of MY entree did not come out!
It was so tasty, cooked to rare/medium rare perfection, slightly charred on the outside, but red and juicy on the inside. The fettucine was handmade with a flavorful sauce, I ate just about the WHOLE thing! For those who have been reading my reports, you know that normally Fran and I split an entree, but we both ate everything in sight! I didn't have lunch, just a few Ritz crackers, but dinner was so so so good I couldn't help but eat it all!
Next up dessert...
This was an apple charlotte
One of the guys ordered some different ice cream and spumoni
I got the Scharfenberger Chocolate pate, oh so rich, tasty and good.
So that was our evening. Evidently we passed the "test" and will be invited to future "supper club" events. Sounds like fun dining out with a bunch of funny guys and trying new places! Hopefully we have also made some new friends!
