PTR-Cheating on Mickey w/Harry!...OMG! Only a month to go!

So last night we joined some folks for dinner at Napa Rose. Our friend John has been dining with this group for some time, they are an informal supper club and call themselves the "League of Handsome Devils", this was our first dinner with the group and they picked the Napa Rose for this month. None of the guys minded my picture taking during dinner, so I took shots of everyone's dinners. In fact they were all very helpful and enthusiastic about showing their dishes for dinner.

The only thing that I KNEW I was going to order was the Smiling Tiger Salad. This is a salad of field greens atop Spicy Beef, with some Tempura Lobster and a Coconut Lime Dressing. This was my first appetizer.

These were two of the special appetizers that people ordered. They both run about $35-45. We have never tried them because they sound like too much food. This is the Seven Sparkling Sins, An Array of Tantalizations Featuring Spicy Beef & Cashew Roll, Curried Crab Taco, Citrus Cured Salmon Buckwheat Blinis, Shrimp in Cucumber Wrap with Lemon Dill Creme, Seared Ahi Nacho, Tangerine Grilled Scallop and Grape Leaves with Pheasant. For two. $45

If we leaned towards one of these it would probably be this one, the Sizzling Beach Rock, A Combination Appetizer of Garlic Seared Shrimp, Soy Glazed Spare Ribs and Lemon Grass Chicken Skewers cooked on a Hot Beach Stone. For two. $36

Fran ordered the Portabello Mushroom "Cappucino", but we split both of the appetizers.

One of the guys ordered the Salmon Carpaccio, but was alarmed to find out that it was raw. Evidently he did not know the meaning of Carpaccio. He let anyone at the table who wanted some to eat it.

Most everyone ordered a second appetizer/salad and here was the second round. I had the Scallops in a Lobster cream sauce

A couple of the guys ordered the field greens salad

DSCN4022.jpg

Several others ordered the Potato Soup with seasonal vegetables

DSCN4023.jpg

Fran ordered the Veal Scallopini which was part of the Vinter's Menu, but she was able to order it independently. The salad that was served with it was awesome, full of salami, pepperoni and cheese!

DSCN4024.jpg

Next up was the Entrees. Several people ordered the Filet Mignon

DSCN4025.jpg

Fran and others ordered the Sea Bass which was served with steam Manila clams

DSCN4027.jpg

This was a crusted Yellowtail

DSCN4029.jpg

Several people ordered the orichiette and cheese with truffle oil, and passed these around the table, it was very creamy and good.

DSCN4030.jpg

Three of us ordered the Lamb Porterhouse that was served on a bed of Fettucine that was tossed in a lamb sauce with Portabello Mushrooms and braised lamb shank. The reason I describe it so well is that my picture of MY entree did not come out! :sad2: It was so tasty, cooked to rare/medium rare perfection, slightly charred on the outside, but red and juicy on the inside. The fettucine was handmade with a flavorful sauce, I ate just about the WHOLE thing! For those who have been reading my reports, you know that normally Fran and I split an entree, but we both ate everything in sight! I didn't have lunch, just a few Ritz crackers, but dinner was so so so good I couldn't help but eat it all!

Next up dessert...

This was an apple charlotte

One of the guys ordered some different ice cream and spumoni

DSCN4032.jpg

I got the Scharfenberger Chocolate pate, oh so rich, tasty and good.

So that was our evening. Evidently we passed the "test" and will be invited to future "supper club" events. Sounds like fun dining out with a bunch of funny guys and trying new places! Hopefully we have also made some new friends!

Oh my, it all looks so good, I dont know where I would begin. Looks very expensive as well. Thanks for sharing. I will go to sleep dreaming of eating this.

That food looks fantastic! Wish I were there.....and even though I'm not, I'm glad that you're there with the camera.

Thanks for sharing.

It was expensive. They take the food total and just divide it by the number of people there so it pays to order the expensive stuff. Drinks are tabulated separately since not everyone imbibes.

I'll tell you that smiling tiger salad is one of the best things I have ever eaten on the planet! In fact I could go in there, pop into the lounge and eat that and be on my merry way and I would be a happy camper! However add the scallops, and that lamb dish and I was in heaven. The best part is that his food is actually so healthy that your don't leave in a food coma even though you ate like a king ( or queens in our case :lmao:)

I think I would of gone with Fran's entree. That looked like a yummy salad.

Alison, I am here, or should I say about 25 pages back. Going to catch up so I can enjoy your PTR with out any pressure. Going to have to PM you about the Octoberfest! Wow...that looks like so much fun. I LOVE Germany, my DH was stationed there for 2 years and we have been back. Ahhhh off to read!

Everything looks so delicous!

I hope you are catching up! That Oktoberfest is one heck of an event, any questions you have, please PM me, I'd rather give you answers in a PM.

Yum yum yum! Thanks for sharing the Napa Rose pictures. :thumbsup2

You're welcome I just live dining there and Chef Sutton is so nice and personable, and his food is tasty!

i am so looking forward to meeting you and Fran... That will be lots of fun...

We are looking forward to meeting you two as well! I was hoping it would be this October but they moved the F&W Classic.

I can post the recipe for this some time when we aren't spending all day running around. It's in my Napa Rose Cooking School cookbook. I made it one NYE, it was good and fairly easy. And evidenly no cream! :rotfl2:

They seemed like a fun group of guys, I'm looking forward to February's dinner.

:faint: My mouth is literally agape. Can I be you for a day? Holy food porn.

Love the In n Out cup in the basket of Fran's scooter. :thumbsup2

So I guess you know what we had for lunch that day! :rolleyes1

I wished we were meeting you guys then too. I hate the fact they changed the dates...

I would love the recipe when you have a chance!!!!

I'll see what I can do once the contractor starts work on Friday. Hopefully Fran won't make me do manual labor once we have a houseguest.

Are we overlapping at all in October?

You and I overlap almost a week or so. I think you arrive Sunday and I leave Saturday. I think I switch from BCV to VWL about halfway through your THV and then you move to AKV the day before I go. Have you settled on Kidani or Jambo? I really need to check out your PTR!

I haven't. I'm going for CL still which I'm pretty sure is impossible. I'd have an AKV owner check availability but I don't want to cause a ruckus over in the DVC section. I'm really torn to be honest. I love the liveliness of Jambo and the CS but how often will we use the CS as we'll have a kitchen? But I don't believe Kidani has a bar and I we need a bar, DH and I, to enjoy a drink away from the kids. ;) If we score CL then the decision is made.

Yes, we arrive the 14 and will be at THV or SSR for 5 or 6 nights. If I can score AKV CL then we'll change the order of the resorts. I have a feeling though that moving from AKV CL to anywhere else might be sort of a let down.

So are you not staying at AKV this October? :upsidedow Sorry, I'm sure I know this but have so many plans running around in my head, I can't keep any of them straight. :hyper:

Are you doing any meets? I am tentatively planning on one with my friend Cynthia on the 18th. I'd love to see you and say howdy in person. :goodvibes

Kidani has a bar out by the pool. I don't know the hours, but there is one out there.

Alison, your trip is coming up fast! :cool1:

But no lobby bar? How far is Kidani from Jambo? Can you walk? I'm guessing that Jambo has a bar/lounge.
