PTR-Cheating on Mickey w/Harry!...OMG! Only a month to go!

:)

I always bring Clorox disinfecting wipes on vacation...I put a few into a small ziplock bag and right into my purse. Anytime we check into a hotel, everyone knows not to touch anything until I wipe down ALL light switches, remote, phone, door handles, etc. I did this on our cruise last week too. I read the thread you mentioned about the jacuzzi tub. We used the tub as a regular bathtub for the boys last July and now I wonder what was in there. :scared1: We didn't use the jacuzzi, but next time we go, I will be sure to use the bleach! Now both boys take showers instead of baths, but still...gross!

We have a container of wipes in our Owner's Locker and when we travel locally, I have suitcase that is almost always packed with things we always take and the wipes are included. Since Fran's arthritis drugs supress her immune system, it's really important that we try to keep her away from any possible germs.

LOVED your staycation!

Your treatments sound so heavenly and relaxing. :cloud9::lovestruc

The food looked AMAZING at the White House! Where is that place located at?

It was so relaxing and since this cleaining out the FIL's house is still going on and stressing me out, she is buying Burke Williams Gift Certificates on eBay (at a discount) so I can go back once the contractor has started working and we are truly done!

The Anaheim White House is really close to Disneyland. It's just north of Ball Road on Anaheim Blvd (which is the next major street east of Harbor). I've been wanting to go there for years, ever since I read about it in the Entertainment Coupon book. Of course they're not in there any more, but it was great food and a wonderful atmosphere!

Today marks 72 days until my trip begins. Last Thursday they finally released the schedule for the deminars which take place at the Welcome Center Pavilion (aka the old Wonders of Life Pavilion). In California these things are complimentary (or $1 for the wine & spirits tastings payable at the door) and are available on a first come first serve basis. In WDW they run from $10-12 per session and can be booked starting tomorrow for the M-Th sessions ($2 discount per session for AP & TIW Holders, and DVC Members). The remainder of sessions can be booked on the 16th at 7AM along with the Special Events. After looking over the list of deminars, there are none that I find worth the $10-12. Any of the wine sessions are not very special wines, some you can buy a whole bottle at the grocery store for the price of the seminar. So I did not get up early Friday morning, but Tuesday, I’ll be up at 3:30AM to make that 4AM call in for the special events which begin booking that day.

Getting back to Snacking Around the World….

So on Thursday if we are lucky, we will have tasted food & drink for 10-11 different booths around the world. Groundwise, we will have only made it through three countries technically, but from England through the International Gateway to Mexico, there is a heavy concentration of booths. Friday we are hoping to book a French Regional Lunch (Alsace Region) from 12:00-3:30PM at the Bistro de Paris and a 3D Dessert Party from 8:30-10:00PM culminating with Illuminations! So we will have to work our snacking around these events.

We also have to return our rental car at the Swolphin. I’m really not sure which of the two hotels where we return it, but we’ll figure it out. I’m betting money that I am the one who returns the car and I meet Fran in time to get into WS for the tastings at 11:00AM. If we have a lunch at noon, we won’t want to overdo it on breakfast. I figure that we’ll have a yogurt in the room, maybe a bagel, some V8 or possibly a bowl of cereal. Not sure what we’ll get at the grocery store, but something slightly light. However, I really think the perfect F&W items to begin our day can be found at Belgium.

Belgium, Introduced: 2010
Freshly Baked Waffles with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream

These look absolutely wonderful, I think we will each have to have one!

Godiva Chocolate Iced Coffee

I think this will be a perfect “mellow wake up” for F&W!

Now there are other things at the Belgium booth that we will have to come back for, but if plans go as scheduled and we have a Regional French Lunch at noon, we shouldn’t fill up. Plus Mussels for breakfast aren’t my cup of tea, but here they are!

Steamed Mussels with Roasted Garlic Cream & Baguette

I don’t have any pictures of the remaining items, but you imagine that Begian Chocolate Truffles have GOT to be good! And we all probably know what a Stella Artois is like!

Guylian Belgian Chocolate Seashell Truffles
Stella Artois
Leffe

So with breakfast under our belt, hopefully we are heading to the Regional French Lunch after this!

I’ll let you know on Tuesday!

OK I am late but I am here.... Going to read and then come back.:rotfl:

Welcome! I stumbled upon your TR last year looking for menu items from the kiosks. You may find some of your pictures here. Hope you don't mind! :rolleyes1

No I am cool with that, I love food porn and I take a lot of pictures....

I leave in 1 week for Amsterdam so I am gonna have a ton of photos when I get back...:rotfl2:

I'm way behind too, but I can let you know the car rental is in the Dolphin. My Dad did the estate sale for my parents house this week so I can relate to what you're going through.

So about 32 hours from now I will be the on the phone hoping to book some of the Special Events at the F&W Festival. I have finally settled on four events. So we'll see if I luck out. The events are as follows:

Friday October 28
12:00 - 3:30 French Regional Lunch
8:30 - 10:00 3D Desserts Discovery (all you can eat desserts & cordials)

Saturday October 29
2:30 - 4:00 Taste, Shake and Indulge like the French (Grand Mariner & Dessert Tasting)
8:00 - 10:00 Signature Dinner at Kouzzina with Cat Cora

Wish me luck and we'll see how it goes! :thumbsup2

pixiedust: for you

Hope you get into the RFL!

Thanks! I hope I get into all of them! :goodvibes You might even be still up if I decide to post in my excitement instead of going back to bed! :faint:

Oh Boy! I hope you post them on your PTR, I was there twenty something years ago. :rolleyes1 I hope you have a great time and the boot doesn't get in the way too much.

Sorry about that, but at least they did it before both were gone and no one knew what antyhing was and where it came from. It's definitely tough! Glad you had someone to help.

Thanks for the info on the rental return. I never been inside either hotel so it will be a new experience.

Thanks! I just hope that we wake up! That's really early.

For the rental car, are you just returning the car? If so just drive up to the dolphin, like you are going to checkin or go to valet, and when the cm comes out, just tell them it is a rental return, and they take it from there. super easy!

You can catch a bus from there or wal to the boardwalk very easy..

So I’m thinking about this purse, I would use it at WDW, not as a daily purse (too small), but since I have finally graduated from WalMart purses from day to day I was thinking I could get me a Dooney & Burke for use at WDW. It would have to be the DLR purse cause I love to flaunt DLR at WDW. So many people think it is the ONLY place and really it’s the secondary park/resort. It’s just bigger because Walt was able to fix what he didn’t calculate at the first park!

So as you can see I am still catching up, but I had to tell you that I bought this messenger in the 40th anniversary for WDW.

So three days from now, I should be safely landed in Virginia with my luggage picked up from the Baggage Carousel, and waiting in line for a Taxi to our hotel in Downtown DC. I have had a request for our itinerary so that others can follow along vicariously. As I stated on another forum as we only have three ADRs and still no tour reservations :headache: these plans are more a guideline. And not part of the pirate code. :rotfl2:

Itinerary

Tuesday, April 19, 2011
9:25AM flight out of LAX on American Airlines, this means we need to be at the airport by 7AM maybe even 6:30 so I have time to drop Fran off at the curb with our luggage scooters, and then go park the car! :scared1:
Arrive Dulles around 5:20PM, catch an accessible taxi to our Downtown Hotel, I estimate two hours.
There is a Whole Foods less than a mile away, other than that the closest restaurants are all very ethnic and probably more than we are up for after a long day of flying. There’s not even a fast food restaurant within a mile of our hotel, so Whole Foods or CVS is it for dinner for us!

Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Our hotel has a complimentary breakfast. so we’ll hit that between 6 & 9 AM. Our plan is to visit a Smithsonian Museum, and based on my analysis of the exhibits and our ratings (don’t ask, it’s way too OCD over the top! :lmao:), the Museum of American History wins for the first day. That means Julia Childs Kitchen, the lunch box exhibit and many other interesting things.
Hopefully we’ll take a night city tour, but since we haven’t booked it yet, I doubt it will happen, we may just retire to the room and call tour companies to book one for later in the trip.

Thursday, April 21, 2011
This was the day that we planned to take a city tour for the day, but we have not booked it. All the guide books say that if you need an accessible tour, you need to book it days in advance. Technically we have a few more days, but time is running out, so maybe we’ll end up at a Smithsonian again. The next one up is the Natural History Museum, but perhaps there is still time to book the city tour, cool.
This is the night that we have an ADR at Kinkeads. This is one of the top seafood restaurants in DC, I’ve read countless reviews of the place and though it is pricey, everyone has said it is worth the price. I’m looking forward to this dinner.

Friday, April 22, 2011
Again we plan this day to visit one of the Smithsonian Museums, possibly the American Indian Museum as it has less galleries than most of the others. You see today we are picking up our rental car at 3PM in preparation for the remainder of our trip. Once we get the rental car we plan on visiting the Spy Museum. It is open much later than many of the others so we plan to stay until 9PM when they close. I have made a reservation at a Brazilian Steakhouse (Churrascaria) Fogo de Chao for 9:30PM as it is only a few blocks from the Spy Museum. After a late night, we’ll head back to the room and pack up for transfer the next morning.

Saturday, April 23, 2011
This day we will transfer hotels. We will move from Downtown DC to Alexandria, VA. I am hoping that the pace will be a little slower out in the burbs. I know that a Downtown hotel will drive me nuts after a few days, and I will relish a hotel with free self parking. The ability to come and go with our own car will be much more comfortable than a hotel where we are dependent on public transportation and cabs.

We actually have no plans for this day, other than we need to hit a supermarket because we will be cooking in the room a couple nights while in Alexandria. I’m sure Fran will come up with some ideas of what to do!

Sunday, April 24, 2011
This is Easter Sunday and we are hoping that most people will be in church, at brunch or planning for Easter Supper. Instead we plan on visiting one of the Smithsonian Museums. This time perhaps the Museum of Natural History, where they have the Hope Diamond on display, and we’re also interested in the fossils and dinosaurs. After the museum we’ll go back to our hotel, do some laundry and make spaghetti for dinner.

Monday, April 25, 2011
Writing up this itinerary has caused me to rethink our plans, and I have moved Monday’s activity to Tuesday. As a result the majority of this day is free. Our only obligation is dinner at Gadsby’s Tavern, a place where many famous people have dined including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison & James Monroe. The building was built in the late 1700’s and while it has not been in continuous operation (the Union Oyster House in Boston bears that distinction of continuous operation since 1826, and we have also eaten there), the restaurant and museum are kept in business through a lease to modern restaurant entrepreneurs. It serves a Continental Menu with some Traditional Tavern Favorites.

Tuesday, April 26, 2011
We’ll get an early start this morning because we plan to drive to Fredericksburg (about 45 miles south) to visit the Old Town, Museums and Battlefield. This was a significant battle as it was one of the most one-sided conflicts of the Civil War. The North suffered twice as many casualties as the South due to delays in the arrival of the pontoon bridges, thus allowing the South to further entrench themselves and defend against the North. This will be an all day trip and we’ll probably catch our meals as we can either fixing dinner in the room when we get home, or if we’re starving hit a drive through. :rotfl2:

Travel home day. Always bittersweet on vacation, on the one hand we miss our kitties and want to go home, but also enjoy sightseeing and our travels. Check out is at noon, but our plane doesn’t leave until 6:20PM so we have until around 3PM before we need to head to the airport. Who knows leisurely lunch, shopping…

That’s it, anyone with any suggestions or has any more information, let me know!
Thanks!

Too bad I did not know you were coming... I work in DC everyday, we could have had a mini DISmeet... So back to reading....

Wow! You are catching up! I did get the bag, but not the one pictured. There was one on Main Street that had better placement. I remember in your TR when you got that bag. Great minds think alike. :thumbsup2:

Thanks for reminding me about it. Later this week I'm heading to the D23 Expo and that will be an awesome purse to use around all those Disney geeks.

That would have been fun to meet up. However, we will be back, if you've read that far, you'll see we were museum junkies. We hope to go back in the next few years once Fran has better mobility so we can do more active stuff. But we did enjoy the museums.

Did you say, Godiva Chocolate Iced Coffee?!?! Coffee + Chocolate = ONE VERY HAPPY LESHAFACE!

Woot woot! Good luck in the morning! I may be up at that time tomorrow, but not to make any reservations for anything  I need to work my big booty off so I can indulge in some more delicious Disney Cruise Desserts in 3 months! :yay:
