Pteradon Flyers

Anyone know the reasoning behind the height restrictions on Pteradon Flyers? We were fortunate that dd was just short enough to ride, but I saw some other disappointed faces coming back from the entrance of the line. It will be disappointing that next time we come, she will be too tall for the ride. It was definitely one of her favorites for this trip.

when we were there in feb , as always we just walked by as we had done for years & years because back many years they ONLY let you ride IF you were under a certain height & a parent could only ride with a child.
we finally noticed ( this feb) that they changed that restriction!! adults could ride with NO child & there were no height restriction maximums,, I was thrilled to be finally able to ride it!!!
& gee it ie really surprising , really short, yes, BUT has some swinging curves in it.
so now it is back to height restrictions?

They will usually let you ride the first thing in the morning or close to closing time in the evening without height restrictions.

The restrictions are there because it is a slow loading ride and was designed for a kiddy ride. The wait times got so long that many kids were not able to ride it. There are so many rides in the park that young kids aren't able to ride so this was one that resticts older kids/adults.

During slow seasons when the lines aren't so long, they will often lift the restrictions. But if you really want to ride and don't have a young child, just go right at park opening and ask them if you can ride. Most of the time they will let you.

We were there a little before 10am on Saturday morning and there was a CM with a measuring stick at the beginning of the ride. He was definitely turning kids away who were too tall. At that point in time, the line was not long at all...maybe a 10 minute wait. We rode 3 times back to back, and then headed to the Jurassic Park Boat ride. After the boat ride, my dd wanted to ride the "bird ride" one more time. The line was around 20 minutes long then, and there was still a person with a measuring stick standing there.

Do they listen to begging?
It will be my wife and I anniversery! PLUS we HAVE to ride it because it counts as a coaster credit! My wife and I keep track of our coaster creds and if we dont get this we more than likely wont ever get another chance.

do they CHANGE the rules when they want to?

I double checked MY map of the park the ONLY requrement ( in feb 2009) was you had to be 36" tall to ride. NO requirement for an adult can only ride if accompanied by a child ( as in years past) & NO maximum height limit for a child to ride.

when we rode, many adults rode by themselves as did a LOT of children.(45 minute wait) ( it was in the afternoon )

where do they post that rule now? it is not in the guide. when we were walking past it in feb, I can't think of what made us go on , but there was 'something' I must have noticed, maybe they had signs in the past at the opening? otherwise where would you know an adult can't ride.

the height graph on my december 2008 & feb 2009 map only state a min. 36" I remember saying 'something' to the cast member how cool it was that we adults can ride without kids now... she replied something about "have fun"

When they are enforcing the rule, there will be a team member (the "greeter") out there letting people know. It is only enforced during the busy seasons or during days when the line gets backed up. For a few years it was enforced all the time even during slow times but the guest complaints became too numerous. It just made sense for guest satisfaction to just let them ride when the lines weren't too long.

I have a park map from 2005 it definately states in there "" This attraction is designed for children 36-56 inches tall. Guests over 56 inches tall must be accompanied by a child meeting this requirement"

We were turned away because our 10 year old was too tall.
We thought it was crazy. They allow adults if you are with a child within the height allowance.

When we went in Sept. '07, it was incredibly uncrowded and they let both me and my boyfriend ride. We're definitely over the height limit. They were letting everyone ride at that time, as far as I can remember. It was a lot of fun, but nothing I'll be sad over not doing on future trips.
