PSP or Nintendo DS

While I agree with SOME of what you say, I think you are being WAY too hard on Sony. I am a 44 year old guy who still games. I owned the original Pong, many Atari systems, colecovision, intellevision, NES, SNES, gamecube, PSP, PS1, PS2, DS Lite..... and a computer gaming geek. All to say I have seen it all, played it all.... oh, and XBOX too!

You make a blanket statement like the PSP3 will fail, and I have to wonder about your motivation. The number of companys backing Blue Ray is just as big as those backing HD DVD. When the $600 PS3 comes out in about 4 months, it will only be SLIGHTLY more expensive than a stand alone HD DVD player, but will play DVDs, and pretty much any older Playstation game. It will support HDMI, the highest consumer picture quality out there.

The Wii, will have FAR inferior graphic capabilities to the PS3. But that is OK, because it will be HALF the cost of the PS3. And it will NOT play ANY DVD at all. Still, I admit, the Wii is quite an interesting idea. But Nintendo, unless it can remake its image entirely, is thought of, rightfully so, to date, as the system for "little kids".

I admit that Sony STINKS as far as customer service. I used to work in retail electronics selling Sony. If you tell me that Nintendo is great at CS, well, I have to agree because I have no idea since I never needed service from Nintendo.

Sony has an intalled base of PS users OVER 10 million, and I think closer to 20 million worldwide. Those people are going to choose a PS3 for the backward compatibility of thousand of PS games on the market.... I would think.

And what is "the right place", exactly?

King's motavation is that he's a fanboy, that's all there is to it. But even Sony fanboys are worried about the viability of a system that is SO advanced that it almost prices itself out to YOUNGER generations. Yes, people like us who have grown up gamers might buy it (a lot won't according to boards I frequent), but what about the kids that will be the future of gaming?

We have a PS2 and The Horned King doesn't play it ever. In the many years we've had it, he's played a total of two games that he borrowed from his friend; he wouldn't have bought them on his own. The PS2 is mine, because I love RPGs, I prefer Nintendo for everything else.

The PS3 may be slighty more than an HD DVD, but it will be almost have of what Sony will be charging for their Blue Ray player ($1000!). And it will not play HD DVDs.

If I want a DVD player I buy a DVD player, not a video game system (especially when the PS2 proved that it wouldn't play ALL DVDs.)

The Wii cost LESS than half of the PS3. I think A lot of people would rather buy a Wii AND an xbox360 and forego the PS3.

Will the PS3 fail? I doubt it, but will it keep Sony the #1 selling gaming company? That's a better question.

Enough hijacking! We should start a next gen console thread if we want to debate this more! :)

BTW PD I can't wait to play Madden on the Wii!!! :)

Okay, that makes sense! :teeth:

I forgot to add one thing. The backwards compatabilty of the Wii is going to be HUGE, because of it's virtual consol. My mom is buying her first home consol since my brother and I moved out, because she can play all the old games she loves. And it might not be cool, because my mom is buying it, but for fanboys what about all of the awesome old games that go for $80+ on ebay that you'll be able to download and play on your Wii? THAT is backwards compatibility! :teeth:

I think Nintendo's innovativeness is good for ALL gamers, whatever system you covet. It pushes everyone to make better games. We all win!

I love my PSP and my PS2, and the fact is that some of the best franchises are only on Sony (Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy) so that keeps me buying Sony products, also which I've never had trouble with. Sony is still #1 in the console market and there are 3 times as many PS2's as Xboxes in houses.

The PSP is so much more than a game system, it's perfect for traveling, you can buy memory cards and put movies or tv shows on them with a conversion program, you can surf the internet, albeit a bit slowly, I put music and movies on it, and there's a lot of other high tech stuff for it also coming out, like possibly GPS.

Saying the PS3 will fail is really not even something that is predictable, it has a lot of capabilities and even the Xbox 360 isn't much of a next-gen console so far with all of the technical issues, delays and hardly any unique games.

People will buy the Wii, in droves, but that doesn't mean they won't buy the PS3 also....I know of many, many people who are already going to wait on the PS3 and not buy an Xbox 360. The question is will they wait until it's less than $600.

ITA!

I'm afraid that the PS3 will have plenty of it's own technical problems when it launches, so it's a good idea to wait anyway.

I was working at Toys R Us when the PS2 came out. Geeze the problems with that system at launch!!! It was nuts!!

Are you saying the Wii is more powerful? I am not sure what you mean. If it IS what you mean, your are incredibly wrong. The Wii will be very cool, but still be in 3rd place after Sony and Microsft in "power".

If I am not understanding you, please explain.

That didn't come out right

Nes was weakest =Won
SNES was weakest = won
PS was weakest =won
ps2 was weakest=won
Wii is weakest = ?

I think anyone who thinks that Wii has better graphics is blind. What I was saying this is the first time PS brand will be strongest in the console arena. But DS was weaker and is still doing very well compared to PSP. Though I do give credit to what no other handheld has never done before, take a chunk out of the handheld market. It sold on the PS brand and has done well because of that.

Nintendo is gaining a lot of support back after the N64 fiasco. Lets look at the parallels between the PS3 and N64. Insane develepment costs. Using a very expensive format. Basically looking down upon third party developers saying they must keep their games exclusive. Besides, Microsoft is getting something that always kept it back, GTA on the same launch day. Sony always had the time lead with this game. There are rumors of Assassins' Creed coming to the 360 too. Several PS3 Exclusives are coming multiplats with 360. Not saying it won't sell, just not 60 million, maybe less, (DRE Replacements) than they did last time.

Nintendo has the best chance to win the sales because even Nintendo wants it too be everyone's second console. Both Micro and Sony were fighting over their consumers telling them to buy the Wii as a second console. They were hoping to steal the thunder out of each other using the Wii.

I second the notion that we create a next gen thread. Or suggest that we have a video game board. That would be cool.
