Do all 50 state have laws governing the sale of pseudophedrine products or do some states still sell it over the counter without showing ID? I support all of the efforts to curb the misuse but a recent TV show brought up this question at lunch today.

I know you have to show ID here (Florida). I am not sure if it is all 50 states.

I know NJ is under the laws--I need to use ID just to purchase OTC allergy medicine.

DH bought some for me a couple of weeks ago at CVS and had to fill out his name, address, etc. The form even had a space for his driver's license number, but he left it blank. That's a little over the top, IMHO. A couple of months ago, I went to a different CVS and went to the pharmacy and they handed it right to me, so I have no idea what's required and what's store policy.

Do other states limit how many med's with pseudoephedrine you can buy? I know we can only buy 2 or 3 packages at one time. We also get carded for buying spray paint and other aerosol products except hair spray.

they won't put it in OTC meds anymore here in NY. you have to have a perscription for it.

Here in Nebraska we have to go to the pharmacy to get it, show our ID and they put in our name and address and we have to purchase it there, no shopping and paying for it later. And I know there is a limit as to how much you can purchase, but I don't know what that is. I think it's a little over the top.

I can speak for Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas. I don't know about anywhere else. I feel like a criminal when I get a stopped up nose.

Here in Calif too...scan your drivers license and sign a form.

You do in Ohio. I think this bullcookies is everywhere now.

I am just wondering if Meth Labs have come to a screeching halt since the ID requiremenst have been in place? Anyone?

I didn't think so.

Unfortunately no. :( They say that today the bulk of the pseudophedrine used to make meth is being smuggled in through Mexico.

Oh, yes. I'm sure that the government's knowledge that I've bought some OTC medicine will end the War on Drugs. I have no doubt when they zip my driver's license through their little machine that THIS will be the clincher.

See, that is the thing...I am all for laws that can actually bring about positive change, the betterment of society, save lives, etc. I am just not in any way convinced that these ID requirements are making a BIT of difference.

Are you sure you need a prescription or do you just need to get them in the pharmacy? I can't believe dr's would want to be writing out prescriptions for plain old cold medicine.

Good point.:thumbsup2
Missouri has had these rules forever and a day...since it is the "Meth Capital" of the USA.
Hmmmm...Missouri is still #1 in Meth Making. Gee...these rules are really helping.....NOT!

The only thing that is happening is that the stores are not being robbed. That is really what the "show ID baloney" is for.
