PSA: Do Not Leave Food in Strollers

You've heard it before, but I'll say it again: Do not leave food in strollers!

Unless you wanted to feed the squirrels rather than your family...

One of my favorite memories from our last trip was watching the birds steal french fries from the strollers parked in Future World while we were riding the Peoplemover. So hilarious.

We watched a squirrel take a whole sandwich (in a baggie) out of a stroller and take off with it.

I've heard they are evening getting smart enough to open zipped cooler bags. This worries me since we will be bringing our lunches with us. I may need to start thinking about squirrel proofing my lunch bag with a lock or something...

Or just bring the bag on rides with you.

We've had things stolen from strollers, so we stopped leaving things except for water. Then I watched a squirrel gnaw on a bottle lid. Given that I've seen kids do their own amount of gnawing on lids like that, I realized I didn't want the possibility of squirrel spit in our diets. So we started bringing waters with us as well. Nothing whatsoever left in the stroller. (Back in the stroller days)

And now we are very good at only packing in what we can carry, because we didn't rely on the stroller as a pack mule.

that's nothing new - I watched them unzip and ravage someone's cooler when I was on my honeymoon in 1998.

Or you could do 3-4 small bags and all those who are able have to pitch in carry some stuff. I am also in the mindset of just trying to do it all myself in general but lately I've been trying to remind myself that everyone with 2 arms can help at least a little.

Try a big safety pin through the zipper and bag. I'm pretty sure they can't break into that.

that's nothing new - I watched them unzip and ravage someone's cooler when I was on my honeymoon in 1998.

That's what I was wondering, are they smart enough to open a zipper? Can't recall ever seeing one do it, but they're certainly dexterous like raccoons so it doesn't surprise me.

This happened to my family at animal kingdom a few years ago. We went to stroller parking and noticed ours had been moved and there were two cm with brooms chasing something near it.

We walked over and the one of the cm came over to confirm it was ours. She was awesome and in a cheery voice informed us that Chip and Dale had taken our packed dinner. It was quite funny.

One of my daughter's was three at the time and started crying. She had been looking forward to eating her small bag of cheetos. We just tried to calm her down as we laughed at the situation. In between sobs we heard "why would chip.steal?" We saw it lesson learned, our food was fair game for wildlife.

As we were leaving a manager came over and gave us a voucher for dinner. On the reason part it said "Sorry about Chip and Dale." It was some sweet very unexpected pixie dust. I'm pretty sure my 3yo crying about the horrors of those two pesky critters did it

We plan on packing food next time qo, but in a much sturdier lunch box.

Just this past week, saw a black bird steal rice from a persons meal as she was wiping down the table. I was yelling to her but she didn't hear me in time.

That's what I was wondering, are they smart enough to open a zipper? Can't recall ever seeing one do it, but they're certainly dexterous like raccoons so it doesn't surprise me.

I've never seen one operate a zipper, but I did watch one unroll a full size bag of Doritos (not shake it open, UNROLL it...), so I wouldn't say it couldn't happen. And the bag was half gone, so he had his whole body up in that bag... This was at the pool, and I waited around for the folks to come back so I could warn them, but I finally got ready to leave and just grabbed the bag and threw it in the trash! Might've been out of bounds, but I really didn't want them eating after squirrel hands and body!!
