I must admit that I do not know a whole about gaming.

I know that there was a thread on this topic a few weeks before Christmas, but now I can't find it!

Can you all tell me which system has more games available for younger kids? I know that some games are available for all the systems. But, in that thread, I remember that several DISers said there seemed to be a bigger selection of games for the younger kids for one system in particular.

Which systems did you all buy for your kids?

Any advice appreciated!

Nintendo does indeed tend to cater for younger gamers - their current consoles are the GameCube and the DS.

Nintendo. They're selling packaged game "kits" for about $99 now--my parents just bought one about a week ago for the grandkids to use at their house. It was the console, 2 controllers & Mario Party 7, if I remember correctly.

We have the Gamecube & a PS2, but found that there were more kid games for the Gamecube than the PS2---so DH has claimed the PS2 for himself. :rotfl:

Gamecube, that is what my kids have and they love it!!!

And, it's unanimous!!!! :cheer2:

We didn't get DS one for Christmas this year. But, I am going to try to warm DH up to the idea of getting him one for his birthday this Spring.

Another vote for Gamecube. My kids 4, 7 and 13, all play it. There are wonderful games for younger kids. Lots of E for everyone games.

Gamecube..the playstation may have a few games for kids but it cannot beat the gamecube

I have them all and have to go with the crowd on this one. Get Animal Crossing, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Sunshine, Pikman, Pikman 2, Super Monkey Ball 1 and/or 2 any Mario Party. There are also tons of good games if you or your hubby would like to get something interesting.

Another vote for Gamecube. It's a good sturdy little system and the games are fun, some for all ages. It's also the least expensive so it's less painful if it gets broken somehow. ;)

My DS and I loved the Gamecube. Lots of great child friendly titles.

Unfortunately, after not quite two years and LOTS of play, the system developed a heat problem and shuts down after ten minutes or so of play. A neighborhood kid with a Gamecube system roughly the same age, has the same exact problem. Just as the warrantee expired, so did the system.

DS and I are trying to decide whether or not to get a new GC, or trade in the used games we'd bought.

I've got to say, I'm not impressed with the lifespan of the system.

we had a ps2 for years....

DD8 got a game cube for christmas this year, and she says the controller is easier to use than the ps2,

no comments about the games yet, as they dont have many for the cube

I would say PS2 or Gamecube. Our kids have a PS2 and they have no problem finding kid friendly games to play.

My vote goes for Gamecube as well for the younger crowd. My boys went from Sega Genesis to N64 to Gamecube, and then on to PS2. (They're currently almost 15 and 16 years old.)

We got a gamecube with a Mario Party bundle for Christmas. another upside for us is that if you get a certain adapter, you can play gameboy games on it. We have only had gameboy up to now and have about 12 gameboy games (I think DS got 4 of them new for Christmas). I'd hate to have those gathering dust. Don't know how much the adapter costs though; it was sold out when we got the system.

I know it's little consolation when you get one that broke after the warranty expired, but across the board, the Gamecube has the least amount of problems this generation. Microsoft and Sony only give a 90 day warranty on their machines too and Nintendo blows them way covering the system for what, a year and a half?

Our Xbox had a faulty drive in it and I had to pay $100 to have MS fix it, EVEN though MS knew they put faulty drives in them. I'm certainly not alone though, hundreds of thousands had the same problem.

The PS2 has a huge record of breaking down too. We've been lucky with ours though.

IMO, you can't buy the PS2 or the Xbox without buying the extended warranty that Best Buy, Circuit City, and Toys R Us offers. I've never bought an extended warranty on the Gamecube and have had absolutely no problems with it. For the cost to repair the Xbox, you could buy a new Cube!

As I've said though, it's little consolation when yours did break.
