PS - What is the "do not miss" dining experience?

I'm going to disagree with everyone because I am not a fan of the Blue Bayou. I thought the food was overpriced and not very good. And we had pretty rotton service on top of it. The best two meals I have had in DLR have been at Carnation Cafe and Storyteller's Character breakfast.

I agree! My wife and I went to the Blue Bayou a couple of years ago for our wedding anniverary and were very dissapointed We got a tabe that wobbled in some back corner where we couldnt see the ride. We told our waiter about the table and he didnt do anything about it. The food is OK but not worth the money. The service is horribly SLOW and it got quite noisy at times. There are alot of better places to eat at then the Blue Bayou.

On behalf of my 4 year old dd her favorite non character places are the Plaza Inn. My 2 dd's and I can share the adult fried chicken dinner w/ mashed potato and vegetables and roll. There is plenty of food and she loves fried chicken. At the Carnation cafe the make your own PB&J sandwich. She adores this and ask to go there everyday!! It comes with the Pb&J of course plus other stuff to put on your sandwich, marshmallows, raisins, bananas etc. It is an activity and food all in one. Great for an afternoon break then we share a dessert there or a Dole whip. My girls get tired of Mac n cheese an d chicken nuggets , so they also like Rancho del Zocalo and the pasta at Red Rockets Pizza.

Her favorite Character meal is Princesses at DCA and Minnie's in DL. We usually do Goofy's the night before our first day or in the morning before heading home on our last day.

With a 4yo, I would recommend Ariel's - Princess character meal. Either breakfast or lunch. Or Minnie & Friends in DL for breakfast. Cafe Orleans is great for the whole family. You are outside with a view of the river and people walking by. They have crayons for the little ones and the food is wonderful. We love it there!

Final note, we are not fans of Blue Bayou, either.

I am very surprised to hear that others were disappointed in Blue Bayou. We went recently for lunch and thought it was horrible. The kids food is not very kid friendly and our meals were mediocre at best. Service was horrible too! We started out with one waiter and ended with a different waitress. My husband asked for coffee with our dessert and instead we got the check. It took so long to get the check that we decided to forget about the coffee.

We also had lunch at Storytellers. While it too is expensive, we thought we definately got more for our money. The meal was cheaper than Blue Bayou and my DH and I also each got an alcoholic drink. The food definately tasted better too and the service was top notch. We can't wait to go back in May.

I am getting nervous about my BB ressies... I wanted to go there for the atmosphere, and it will be easy for us to check in for F! right after... but I don't want a dinner I won't like either! I looked at the menu, and am planning on either the chops or short ribs right now...with the prime rib off the kids menu for dd... any experience with these dishes??

Really the best time to do the blue buyou is for lunch the first seating at 11:30
Get there about 11:10 and check in and pretty much the first ones seated by the water.

I think service is great at this time because it is the first of the day. just my 2 cents

I had theshort ribs and they were very fatty. Sorry.

We loved the Blue Bayou when we ate there last October. Had PS reservations, showed up 10 minutes early and asked for a waterside table. They said it would be a 30-45 minute wait. We said never mind, we'll just take any table...as DD7 was getting really hungry. Within 5 minutes they seated us at a waterside table!

DH and I both had the prime rib and thought it was fantastic! DD7 had chicken legs with pasta, which she loved...although it was a very huge portion for a child and she only ate about a quarter of it. Didn't have room for dessert...too bad, I heard the cookie/ice cream boat is awesome.

I think with any restaurant there are good days and bad...and it also depends on your taste and what you order.

We had PS at 9pm and waited about 40 minutes for our seats at Blue Bayou, so I was less than thrilled with that as was my toddler... bah!.

Holy cow, that's bedtime for me I can't eat dinner at 10pm I'd still be full at breakfast time!

Well, yessss...but I have such an attachment to the place since I went as a kid. That said, still enjoy it. Yes, Monte Cristo is huge and greasy..we will do a split plate and share. We had dinner there last time we went and the service was fine, and we had a huge party..not an easy task. Server was very nice, threw in extras,friendly. I had the short ribs in the wine reduction and they were right up there as one of my top meals. Excellent.

Napa Rose...did not enjoy it at all, nor did any in our party. Some friends did it again, and still didn't like it. They much prefer the steak house at DLH.
Storytellers is OK but just OK very disappointed with the dinner buffet. Expensive I thought. Whitewater Snacks is great..try the breakfast burrito or the French Dip and really like La Brea Cafe in DTD. As far as experiences, we are doing Arial's Grotto for breakfast, so that may be a good one for you.

I too am also going to agree with the Blue Bayou on this one. Horrible food, big long hair in it, terrible service and over priced. Its a cool inviornment but for me thats where it ends. For a little one anyway I wouldnt recommend the Blue, I would recommend like others said the Carnation Cafe and Storytellers character meal, as well as Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland hotel.

And see, we have the best experiences at BB!!! We absolutely love BB and we try to eat there often. I think we will skip it this trip so we can do it for my birthday dinner next month. We've had the kids Prime Rib, the kids Mac N Cheese (which is pretty orange but isn't terrible tasting, not gourmet at all but it's edible), the Monte Cristo, the adult Prime Rib, the fish and the Tesoro Island Chicken. We've never been disappointed, no matter when we have eaten there. We've had waterside tables every time, little to no wait after check in, great service, good food. The MC is the greasiest thing I've had there but it's not that greasy. I'm super food picky, I don't eat steak if it has fat on it, I don't eat chicken legs or thighs only the breast, if it looks yuck I won't eat it. And while it's dark in there I can see my food. LOL If it was too greasy, fatty, whatever I wouldn't eat it.

For us our major disappointment was Goofy's Kitchen, we had a horrible time there and none of us want to go back. Not even the kids.

With a 4 y.o. I would do a Minnie Mouse breakfast and Ariel's Grotto. Those are both in the parks and much closer.
