Does anyone know the best way to go about cancelling a PS when your plans change? Is short notice frowned upon? I'm also concerend about going to the park early for a PS @ CP and my toddler wanting to run around instead. He can be unpredictable even with the promise of seeing Pooh! That would be really short notice! Thanks, Maggie

I've never had a problem with last-minute cancellations. I think in all the times I've been to WDW, I'm sure I missed or forgot at least one somewhere along the line. Don't worry ...

The PS's that you had to give a CC# have a 48 hour cancellation policy or your card is charged. If you didn't have to give a CC#, I believe it's that day cancellation (or maybe 24 hours). I have called Disney Dining from my resort room after I got to my resort (unless you have a PS that will be on the day of your arrival, then you'll want to call from home). If you are staying off-site, you can call from anywhere in the park and I believe it is a free call because it's Disney Dining, but I may be wrong about that.

One time I was on hold with WDW - DINE so long during a busy week, I went right past the PS time! The lady thought I was crazy I didn't hang up but, goshs, I was on hold so long I couldn't give up;)

Unless you give a credit card #, you can call anytime to cancel. Actually, you don't even have to call and cancel (unless you secure it with a credit card). If you don't show up, there are no consequences. But as a courtesy, you should call the day before, because it opens up the time for someone else who may want to dine there.

Few PS require credit card, other than those, it is not a big deal as you don't have reservations, they are not holding anything for you, it just gives you priority when you arrive over walk ups. It is still nice to cancel but not absolutely necessary and they certainly don't frown on you doing so.

I had to cancel two ps's right before we were to go - they thanked me for calling and never said a bad word.

I agree. I guess some people never call to cancel, which is a little discourteous to other guests.

Remember that it is a priority seating - not a reservation. The system is designed for no-shows! They do not hold a table for you the way a regular restaurant would. They put you at the front of the line when you do show up.

They deliberately made the system this way because they totally understand that you could be on line for Space Mountain when your time comes up, or you could have ended up in a different park for the day, or your kids could be waiting to get Mickey's autograph, or your kids could be over tired an you are on your way back to your room....you get the idea. They expect this to happen. And they don't expect you to get right to a phone when you are on line for a ride or to see a character.

Short notice or no notice is acceptable. The table doesn't go empty. It just means a walk in might get seated faster or even someone with a ps might get a seat right away instead of waiting 5 - 10 minutes! It really is a great system.

That said, if you know in the morning that you are skipping dinner that night or you know at home after you've made all your PS that you made a few too many character meals and need to cancel one, etc., of course it is courteous to cancel. It allows someone else who calls for a PS to get one.

But last minute cancellations are not a problem at Disney World....so relax and enjoy! (Like others pointed out, it's different for any meals that require a credit card. Be sure to cancel those at 24 - 48 hours in advance - whatever the specific policy is for the event).

Hope that helps.
