Proximity to Wyndham Palace?

DD is dancing this summer at a competition at the Wyndham Palace in the Downtown Disney area. Based on that, I'm thinking OKW or SS would be the closest options. Does anyone know if one would be more convenient to the Wyndham than the other? Any opinions on which would be better for just the two of us - am going with a studio as we are low on points but need to stay for 6 nights. The OKW studios seem much larger and would be 12 fewer points overall. (Assuming availability at either, of course!)

SSR is right across the street, within easy walking distance although there is lots of traffic on that road.

Right across the street. If they open the second entrance to SSR (closest to Wyndham), it will be really convenient for you.

FWIW, we stayed at the Wyndham in June on Saturday night before checking into SSR. The Wyndham rooms were nice (she gave us an upper floor, Disney view), and the lobby area was OK...but the pool was GROSS.

Well, I guess we'll try to stay at SSR, then, for the convenience if nothing else. Hope the pool looks better - by July I'm sure we'll need it regularly!

Thank you!

It's a nice hotel, previously was called the Buena Vista Palace.

Right now they're still using the side entrance as a service entrance (and possibly construction entrance.) It may be a long time before they open it up for guests.

If you're driving, I don't think there'd be much difference between SSR or OKW as for both you'd have to drive down to Disney Vacation Club drive, turn right, go to Buena Vista, turn right, and drive up to the Wyndham. Probably only a few minutes difference driving time between the two.

If you're walking, the new pathway that goes to DD (enters DD near the marketplace bus stops), would be a simple walk. When you get to the intersection by DD, just cross the street (when pedestrians cross all traffic stops in all directions and the no turn on red signs light up, so you'll be ok with the traffic--just be sure you push the button to get the walk light :moped: ).

I had the same situation with a conference at the Wyndham. I stayed at SSR. Using the back entrance, (it is exit only for guest) I left my room and 2 min later was at the Wyndam. The back drive way exit faces the Wyndham entrance. To go to the conference center you do not go up to the hotel, you turn left and go down the hill to the left side of the hotel. it is easy to see and find. SSR is so nice, despite what a few hard to please people say. IT is better than any DD hotel. If you get building 11, you would really be close. THe walk to the Wyndham would be better than the walk to DD or to the main pool from Congress Park. You do have to cross traffic (4 lanes with a large grass middle), but this road was hardly used in Dec. Many people walk to DD after the conference and take the bus back to the other resorts they may be staying at.

I think the post about the gross pool was meaning the Wyndham. I did not think either pool at SSR was gross. Very clear and clean. Nothing was floating in the water. At least the grounds weren't gross, I cant say the same about me at the pool.

Oh yes, my post about the pool was definitely about the Wyndham. SSR's pool was beautiful...and extremely clean!

The Wyndham's pool had some kind of oily scuz floating all over the top, along with lots and lots of hair. We didn't get there til dusk...so I didn't realize it until we were actually IN the water. The hot tub literally had 4-6 inches of foam on top of the water...lord knows what was causing that.

Flexsmom; since you mention being low on points, you might consider trying for the DVC discounted cash rate for any weekend nights you are there. Just link up the cash and points ressies with MS and you should be all set. We did a points/ cash/ points reservation over along weekend, and only had to check in once and kept the same keys the whole time; completely seamless.

Thanks, Pumpkinboy - I think I will try that for the Fri/Sat we have to be there. I did a room check on-line and it was EXPENSIVE, but I'm sure the DVC rate will be a bit more amenable!

Good to hear that I was mixed up on which pool - I couldn't believe that it would be that bad at DVC and was hoping to chalk it up to construction!
