Has anyone been to the theatre in Providence? We are going to see Phantom in March and I was wondering how it compares to the ones in Boston(Colonial or New Opera House) in size and abilty to view the stage? NOt sure of the name but I thought there was only one.

We saw Phantom at the theatre in Providence 10 yrs. ago. I remember having a big head sitting in front of me which partially blocked my view, however, the theatre itself is beautiful so I didn't mind. I'm sure you'll have a great time. I've never visited the other theatres you mentioned so I can't help you compare. The performance was wonderful.

we recently saw The Lion King at The Providence Performing Arts Center and it was a real nice theatre! Not sure how it compares to the ones in Boston, but we enjoyed ourselves.

We go to the PPAC all the time (Providence Perf. Arts Center) and the view is really not too bad from anywhere in the theater-I've not been to the Opera House in Boston, but I have been to the Orpheum and seating-wise it's somewhat similar to that? Where are you sitting? My personal favorite seats are the Loge area-awesome view and the beginning of the balcony. I'd take that area over orchestra anytime :) We just saw the Lion King there as well and will be going to see Dora there in April :)

The lower level of seating at the PPAC was redone over the summer. It is much better now than it used to be. Also the seats are more comfortable. I saw Phantom there a few years ago and it was very good. I believe that they had reconfigured the stage then to accomodate the Phantom chandelier. I think that if you go to their website (www.ppac.org) they have a link where you can see what the view of the stage is from your section.
I'll be trudging through the snow tomorrow afternoon to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Looking forward to the show, not the snow!

I've been to PPAC many times and saw Phantom there 3 times. I actually prefer Phantom in Providence over Boston because PPAC is so beautiful and I think is a better setting for Phantom.
I agree- the seating is similar to the Orpheum

I have been to PPAC many times with my kids 4 and 5. It is small and cozy, great for kids. We are a short family, I am 5 feet and DH 5'7" so we do fit nicely in the seating. We have friends that are over 6 feet and they complain that there isn't enough leg room for them.
I have only been to the Orpehum, Wang Center and the Charles Playhouse in Boston. We prefer PPAC.

we are sitting in the orchestra but I could not find the seats on the site. My husband got the tickets at the theatre and they told him they were very good but I cannot find them on the site.
My DS wanted to take his gf since he is a senior in h.s. and "poor" we let him get tickets in the balcony (33.00) but they will come with us and go to dinner. Should they take binoculars?

By the by what is a good place to eat before the theatre. Moderatly priced above Chili's below the Ritz! Something like a Maggianos or Macaroini Grill.

The PPAC is a really nice theater. One of the most authentic ones to see. Unfortunately, I haven't been to the one in Boston, but can attest that you will enjoy the PPAC.

I'm also going to Phanton in March!! Saturday the 18th. Saw Lion King and Trans Siberian Orcestra there too.

Don't know alot about dining in the city - my favorite place is Cheesecake Factory at Providence Place Mall.

I don't think it would hurt to bring binoculars. They should be able to see fine but sometimes it's neat to see facial expressions better.

Check out this website for dining options: www.tasteri.com
There are tons of reviews and it's organized by locale as well as type of food. Providence Place Mall is a relatively short walk from PPAC and has many options: Cheesecake Factory, Joe's American Bar & Grill, Napa Valley Grill, Fire + Ice (my fave), Pizzeria Uno, and Smoky Bones.
