I am driving to Green, well to Post rd for valet parking, for a 800pm flight on Wed afternoon. Coming from So Shore Ma, I can take 495 to 95 (seems too long and out of the way) or 195W (close to me) to 95S to 37E or I can take rt 79 SEE BELOW, I know 79 to the bridge pretty well... then I would have to go by the directions. I like the backroads of 79 but what I need to know is traffic for each choice between about 3p-4p for these routes, which is the best way to go this time of day?

and do these directions seem right to you from 79?

Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto MA-79 / PRECINCT ST. 0.1 miles
1: Turn RIGHT onto S PRECINCT ST. 1.6 miles
2: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto CASWELL ST. 2.2 miles
3: CASWELL ST becomes MIDDLEBORO AVE. 0.4 miles
4: MIDDLEBORO AVE becomes HART ST. 1.8 miles
5: Turn RIGHT onto PLAIN ST. 0.5 miles
6: Turn LEFT onto W WATER ST. <0.1 miles
7: Turn RIGHT onto 2ND ST. 0.2 miles
8: Turn LEFT onto SOMERSET AVE / MA-138. <0.1 miles
9: Turn RIGHT onto BRIGGS ST. 0.8 miles
10: Turn LEFT onto COHANNET ST. <0.1 miles
11: Turn RIGHT onto LUSCOMB RD. 0.1 miles
12: Turn LEFT onto WINTHROP ST / US-44. Continue to follow US-44 W (Crossing into RHODE ISLAND). 14.4 miles
13: Turn SLIGHT LEFT to stay on US-44 W. 0.6 miles
14: Merge onto I-195 W / US-6 W. 1.7 miles
15: Merge onto I-95 S via the exit on the LEFT toward NEW YORK. 5.5 miles
16: Take the RI-37 exit- EXIT 14B-A- toward US-1 / WARWICK / RI-2 / CRANSTON. 0.1 miles
17: Merge onto RI-37 E via EXIT 14A on the LEFT toward US-1 / WARWICK. 0.7 miles
18: Merge onto US-1 S / POST RD via EXIT 5A. 1.0 miles

TIA

First, I'd suggest that you edit your post to eliminate the beginning parts. As it is now somebody could back-track right to your starting location - hopefully not your house.

Now, as to the actual route, It doesn't sound correct to me. There is an exit that takes you right into the airport from 95 South - no need to get on Post Road.

Traffic through Providence really isn't bad at any time. Even rush hour (closer to 5 pm) isn't anywhere near as bad as Boston. So I might give myself another 5-10 minutes, but that's pretty much it.

Depending on how far up 79 you are, you might consider just going to I-195 and taking that to the merge with I95. I'm no fan of Rte 44 in that area. Too much cross traffic and too many lights.

missy, I am from RI and if you can be in Providence closer to 3 than 4 on 195W you'll be fine. Closer to 4 traffic will start to get heavier. Once you merge onto 95S there will be an airport exit right after you pass Rt. 37 so just take the airport exit which is very well marked instead of getting off at Rt. 37. You'll be on 95S for only about 3 miles before you see the airport exit.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

NO! Those directions are all wacky. Simply take 24 south to 195W to 95S to the airport exit. In Fall River (not earlier in freetown, etc) you could take 79 and then pick up 195W but it's just as easy to stay on 24S and probably quicker.

I completly agree. The direct route would be Rt 24S to 195W to 95S to exit 13 for the airport the only spot if any you will get traffic is about 2 miles worth of 195 when it merges onto 95S stay in the left lane and go all the way through.

Another thing is PVD tends to be a fast and easy airport so 1 hour has always been sufficent so with you trying to be there even earlier you will be fine!

We have found it easiest coming from Brockton area to go 24 to 495 to 95 to 295 and at near end of 295 is Greene airport . And 95 and 195 merge area is under construction right now too. Although I only go through it on weekend nights so dont know how it affects weekday nights.

I agree with Boston5602. Head to the Brockton/Bridgewater area to get on rt 24 and go that way. Have a great trip!

Thanks! I didn't post starting point, I edited it from 79 and changed that to be step 1, I am far from that point.... I even edited where on Post Rd I end at... thanks though.

I have to go to post rd to valet park, that is why it stops there.

I will be getting on at 24 before it turns into 79 if I go that way, it is easy to get to 24 from my way.

Sorry, I do need to go on Post rd for parking. But I can do 195W at 3pm, so thanks for the info!

I hear ya... I did a test run and because I am off 495 anyway, I went 495 to 95 and it seemed so long. I can get 495, 195 and 24 pretty easy, so I am looking into all choices. Thanks!

missy, when you take the airport exit just before you get to the airport there is a Post Road exit. I don't know where you are planning to valet park, but when you go left off the exit right on the left hand side is Pre-Flight Parking, and just a little further on the right side of the road is Airport Valet Parking.

PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks! I am going 24/79 to the Braga bridge, easy as pie!!
