I just had to share this. At my church this morning one of the congregation members did the children's sermon. Her 11 year old daughter has Retts Syndrome and is wheelchair bound and doesn't speak. Her mother usually does a children's sermon once a year on how even though her daughter's different she's still one of God's creations and likes things like they do.
My daughter, now 3, just recently started going up for the children's sermons. She has been going to church with this little girl her whole life and we've always encouraged her to talk to this little girl and interact with her.
The little girl's mother asked what the kids think of when they see her daughter. My daughter said "she makes me smile".
Having always been somewhat awkward around those with disabilities when I was a child, this brought so much joy to my heart (and a little tear to my eye - and the girl's mother's eye too).
