Just to let everybody know that one of the must-have accessories for my cameras is a ProTama LCD Screen protector. They come in many sizes (I've bought 1.8", 2", four 2.5" for my 6 cameras).

The LCD protector is thick but passes 99% of the light, difficult to get scratch, easy to apply and of very high quality (they tend to last longer than my camerasO

I bought them through my friend's store but she also sell the stuff through eBay (I'm not going to post a link due to forum policy). Just search for "protama LCD" and you'll find them (some of them are sold by different sellers, obviously).

A similar product (actually manufactured at the same factory) is also offered by Exim (ebay search "exim spuc"), NOT sold by my friend at all.

Just FYI.

Did an Ebay search for "ProTama LCD".

Only found one Seller, "sapiendut". Isnt that you?

that's not me, that's my friend's account. Yesterday there were a bunch of sellers, but after reading your post, I only see 3 postings and they are all sold by my friend. (we share the name sapiendut for our photobucket account, payapl account, several forum user IDs etc) Heck, we even share internet connection (he got an 8 mbps internet connection, so I just piggyback using wireless receiver on his internet account) :rotfl:

for Canon dslrs, the cover over the LCD is extremely scratch resistant. if you do manage to scratch it, the replacement covers are around 10 bucks. the one for my 10D was AUD $14 (i replaced mine after getting dust between the cover and the lcd) and i replaced it myself in about 10 minutes with no tools just a suction cup.

really? I didn't know that! I cracked my 10D and Canon Canada charged me $100 to replace the plastic cover (no, the LCD didn't break)

The Canon part # for the 20d rear screen window:
CB3-1831-000

Part # for 10d rear screen window:
CB3-0887-000

They are about US$7.00 + shipping and can be ordered from Canon Parts. Their phone is:

732-521-7230

But some persons like spending $15 to protect a $10 part that is actually HARDER to scratch in the first place.

crooks! Canon Canada people are crooks! (heck, they're still selling the S2 IS for approx US$500 including taxes, S3 IS for US$600)

ouch!! yeah i used to use a pda screen protector until i saw one of the cameras used by a photog for SMH... the D60 body was so beat up and the poor 16-35L looked like it had been dropped from a moving car. but the cover was perfect and it was the original one. someone on fred miranda's gave me the the part number when i asked about the dirt under the cover.

edit: it took about a week to get so your cover might be a good idea if you can't be without your body for too long.

in that case i'll skip the pop up shade thing too and spend my 24 on the exposure book :thumbsup2

kelly how far are you from the border? it might seem worth your while to shop out of country or online although maybe the warrenties wouldn't work?

the pop-up shade thingie (sold by Hoodman and Optex) are useless and a pain.

Imagine: Take pic, open shade to see the pic, close shade, repeat ad nauseum. Also that thing comes with really glossy screen protector creating super glare.

Agreed.

If I thought something would ever happen to my LCD screen, I would just buy a replacement OEM and keep it as back up. But I wont, because the most problems that I have read about with LCD screens were actually caused by the use of those protective films.

i'm guessing they charged Kelly so much since they provided the actual labour, too?? they probably charge about $90 to plop the suction cup on, lift from the corners, and put the new one on (in about 5-10 minutes).

figures US $7.00 gets marked up to AUD $14.... i feel ripped off. :teacher:

Those crooks told me it's not user servicable (although I've told them that my DIY knowledge is up to servicing CD burners, Photo Printing Machines -- no, not PC printers, but photolab machines). :furious:
