Pros/Cons of using a travel agent.

Beware! Some "Disney travel agents",such as AAA can rip you off. They do not offer any cheaper prices than you can get on the internet at Disney.Disney does not discount any rooms for less than you can get online. We started booking with them & they got us the airline tickets too. We looked online & saw that they charged us more than we woud be be charged doing it ourselves. We called them out on it & they told us that they had added a $300 commision & that's why the fee was inflated! We only purchased the airline tickets & cancelled the room package. So beware!
You can book with Disney yourself. Don't be fooled & think that they have "discounted packages".

I used a TA for my first trip - mouse fan travel - and I was SOOOO glad I did. My TA was a WEALTH of information and has given me great advice!! She has really learned my interest, and I'd highly recommend a TA if it's your first trip! I'm a type A too...with the great service I received, I continue to use her every Disney trip! She has more than earned my business!!!

I read a lot of posts about calling Disney - I find that a huge pain - my TA doesn't have a menu selection I have to endure to finally get to someone.... big advantage to me!

When I've received a PIN or had second thoughts about something, she is always great to change my reservation for me! I like having that comfort level.... Even on the weekends!!!

I read a lot of negative posts on here about AAA - I'd strongly recommend one of the agents that specializes in all things Disney.

The added little perks from my TA that arrive with my ticket package are always appreciated!

There are pros and cons to everything.
Pros - you get the expertise of something who know knows what they're talking about, you have someone looking out for deals that may come up...etc...
Cons - your TA may not put as much time and effort into your vacation as you may want...i.e. they may not inform you of deals, they may not put you in the resort best suited to your needs...etc...
I am a Travel Agent, and I know many people are apprehensive about using one...you should be able to interview a travel agent and make sure you're comfortable using them. References are always a plus. DO wat you're most comfortable with!

I'll admit that I'm biased because I'm a TA (I don't work for Dreams Unlimited but I have used them in the past and had a great experience), but I can't understand why people don't use one. Agents will give you as much or as little hand holding as you want. They'll spend 3 to 5 hours on hold when free dining comes out changing your reservation. Good agents will answer your emails and calls right away. They'll take care of screw ups when you're in WDW. And most agencies will send you off to Disney with some nice swag--in fact, if you're booking a cruise and not getting an onboard credit from an agent, you should probably find another agent.

You'd be surprised how many Disney reservationists make newbie mistakes that you might not catch. They answer phone call after phone call all day long. They don't know you or have an incentive to keep you happy--if they don't sell to you, the phone will ring immediately after you hang up. For a Disney TA, there's a huge incentive to keep you happy--you might be that TA's only new client that week. So she's going to bust her behind to make sure you get what you need so you come back and you send referrals her way.

Finally, when you book with a TA, you put that money into a small business. When you book directly with Disney, that 10% goes back to the Mouse. And yes, I love the Mouse. But last I looked that 10% wasn't lowering my costs or bringing back Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Bottom line, get recommendations, go with an experienced Disney TA (you may be surprised to hear that some AAA agents have never even been to Disney) who goes to the parks frequently (ask--the more they go the better) and by all means, if someone tries to charge you for anything, walk away.

OP, it sounds like the TA you worked with was pretty helpful and you haven't even booked with her yet. Good luck.
