What are the pros and cons of forward rooms vs. aft rooms? I was originally assigned a forward room on deck 7 and now we have an aft room on deck 7.

Thanks!

P.S. We were midship on our cruise in 2002.

on decks five, six and seven and can honestly say I did not notice one bit of difference between any of the cabins.

I am a major "aft fan." My favorite stateroom is 5650, which is as far back on deck 5 as you can possibly get. The thing I like best about being as far aft as possible is that there is less hallways traffic, and therefore less noise. Hearing people talking and running in the hallways is annoying to me, but the farther back you are, the less of a risk that becomes. Also, I like the fact that the verandahs are a little larger. The farthest aft ones are solid metal vs. plexiglass, which some people don't like, but it doesn't bother me. Also, you can hear the hum of the engines, which is a plus for me. I sleep with a white noise machine, so humming lulls me to sleep. You are convenient to the "secret" deck 7 aft verandah and the even more "secret" back staircase that leads up to the buffet, and you are close to the restaurants and movie theather.
Forward is not bad...we've been in the secret porthole rooms a few times, and forward is very convenient, although I feel the motion of the ship a bit more up there.

I'm with Barb - I like the aft best.

We've been mid-ship, forward and aft and I definately like aft.

Pros for forward:
Easiest access to the spa, adult pool, Walt Disney Theatre, and entertainment area (Beat Street/Route 66).

Cons for forward:
farther away from resturants and other food (Topsiders/Beach Blanket)
more motion of the ship felt (but not really that much more (although when we were forward we were on a very, very smooth cruise and I couldn't feel it much).

Pros for aft:
Very easy access to the drink station on deck 9 and the rest of the food (love going up the secret stairs into Topsiders.
lEasiest access to the Mickey Pool
Close to the deck 7 secret deck
For many (but not all) the safety drill is inside at Animator's instead of out in the hot sun.

Cons for aft:
Long walk to the spa/adult pool (but good exercise)
Some vibration felt from the engines

As you can see I really focus on the pros to each because in my opinion they are both great locations (as is mid-ship).

Hope this helps!

I've never sailed DIS, but have sailed across the Ocean twice, (once in a hurricane) and can defintely say the aft is preferable for stability issues

Okay. I'm booked almost right there at the bridge on deck 8. After reading that aft is better for stability I'm thinking about trying to change. Only problem is is that we have two connecting family rooms and I don't really want to give up the connecting part. Is foward really that much different? My daughter gets car sick and sometimes I get a little queasy myself. The odds of two connecting cabins canceling in a different location are remote so I guess I had better stock up on meds.:(

ElaineMc,

When are you cruising? If it is not during hurricane season, I wouldn't give it a second thought. If you are sailing at a time prone to rougher seas you may want to move if you feel sea sickness would be a big issue. My daughter is very prone to motion sickness and she have only had minimal issues during the cruise (did not even medicate just drank more fluids). Hopefully you can keep your rooms and ENJOY:D

AmyM,
We're cruising on October 9th for a 3 day. I don't even know if it is hurricane season or not. It was kind of a last minute family get together and I didn't even think about the weather.

aft !!!

1) nearest to venues used most on cruise
2) less motion
3) aft elevators are least used

September is usually worse than October for rough seas. However, it all depends on the year. I have cruised in September and the weather was very good. I cruised over Halloween with Disney and the seas were 15-20 feet (quite rough). We were midship for that cruise and did not feel that much movement. Our standing joke was that you could tell who had been drinking because they were walking straight. The biggest problem on that cruise was hearing the breaking dishes at night. All in all the stabilizers on the Disney ships are GREAT. We have cruised three seperate cruise lines and the Disney ships are by far the smoothest. Also there is a BIG difference between sea sickness and car sickness. People prone to sea sickness have a difficult time adjusting to the slow rocking motion of the ship. It is typically very subtle and most people do not even feel a noticable movement until AFTER you get off the ship.

we are sailing next week... how bad can things get in hurricane season.... doesn't the captain steer clear of rough seas!

Honestly...the 15-20 foot seas were BAD as far as cruising goes. I however did not think it was a big deal on the wonderfully stabilized Disney Wonder:D

Hi kangakruise.

doesn't the captain steer clear of rough seas!

I believe Captain Tom is married. Consequently, he does NOT always steer clear of "rough seas"... lol.

Hey Barb.

I sleep with a white noise machine

You should try "black." You'll never go back...

Hi Jim.

I've never sailed DIS, but have sailed across the Ocean twice, (once in a hurricane)

Nevermind. I can't decide...

Okay, what happens when you get off the ship? Is this when I need my meds? Maybe I should upgrade to first class for the 5 hour flight back home so we have plenty of room to be sick. Just kidding. I can't wait and I'll take whatever comes my way.
