What are the pros and cons of purchasing a time share?

Just basics

Pros...
long term savings on vacation accomidations IF YOU VACATION regularly.

Cons...
Big upfront expense
Loss of value if you let points/weeks go unused
yearly fees.

pros:

-space, space, space
-"home away from home" amenities like kitchen and laundry facilities
-"forces" you to vacation (or else lose the money)
-it's entertaining for some people to see what they can trade for (more of a non-DVC thing)

cons:

-it's often more of a liability than an asset due to continuing annual dues
-some non-DVC timeshares have lost so much value that they are tough to sell on ebay for $1
