I am hoping the skyliner is quicker than the buses, are they?

Also, when you are dropped off at Epcot and Hollywood, are you dropped off at the main entrance to each park or somewhere else in regards to entering the park. In other words, do the buses and skyliner both drop off guests around the same areas?

Thanks

It is a lot faster and when running your only option to go to Epcot and DHS for free transport

For Epcot you are let off at the International Gateway for easy rope drop of the Rat ride.

DHS you are let off at the entrance.

Didn't do a direct comparison but it feels quicker and is super fun/enjoyable!

Drops at International Gateway at Epcot & front entrance at Hollywood Studios.

We LOVED the Skyliner during our April 2023 trip :thumbsup2

Perfect

The KEY thing that puts Skyliner in a different league from Buses is it is CONTINUOUS loading-for the Buses Guests can sometimes wait 20 minutes and even longer on occasion to board a Bus.

And no red lights or waiting for Scooters to load and unload on Skyliner and never having to stand on Skyliner and Skyliner is FUN!!!!

We call Disney Buses the Flip Phone of Disney Transport and Disney Skyliner the Smartphone of Disney Transport. :)

And don't get intimated by morning lines at POP and AoA Skyliner station. They will wrap way down the walkway by the lake, but you'll be on the Skyliner in like 10 minutes. It is soooo much better than buses. The IG entrance at Epcot is also much faster entry also. Same for coming home - don't freak out at long lines at DHS or Ep. They move quickly at the end of the night and you won't be standing on an overly crowded bus.

I loved the Skyliner when we stayed at POP last summer. The only drawback is if there is lightening within a certain mile radius they can't run them for 10 minutes (I think). We went in July where there are storms daily and one day we were going to Epcot and skyliner was closed for over an hour. the buses took FOREVER. W finally ended up Ubering-of course the bus came right as our ride pulled up!

Well, the bus vs Skyliner argument is sort of irrelevant because for Epcot and HS, the Skyliner is going to be your only option (unless it is down for weather/maintenance). Although, the Skyliner is light years better than the busses anyway.

Pros - faster, line moves continuously, don't need to stand when it's crowded.
Cons - sometimes goes down for weather

It drops you at the main entrance to Studios (next to the busses) and the International Gateway for Epcot (not near the busses).

We did a short 2-night stay at POP because my daughter mostly wanted to go to EPCOT and HS. Unfortunately, we only got to ride it half the times we wanted to due to weather. The worst of it was when we both were exhausted but determined to walk through World Showcase. We went clockwise from China and could not see the Skyliner until we got to the International Gateway and found it down (despite clear skies there must have been lightning somewhere in the area). We had to dredge all the way to the front of the park to wait a loooong time for a bus.

So, I would never again stay at POP strictly on the assumption of the Skyliner. But if you wanted a value and like the resort, it is an added bonus.

The one time we had to divert for lightning at the International Gateway, they were walking guests through the station to a backlot entrance where we loaded onto a bus to our resort. No need to walk to the front of the park.

That’s good to know. There was no indication from the IG, but we did not walk all the way to the station. It would also be good to have a simple place to signal it in the app. They do it for rides.

Yes this is the issue. When it's running smoothly it's GREAT, but when it's not it's a HUGE pita.

We won't stay at a skyliner resort during rainy months, but enjoy it for our Feb. trips.

Ironically, I do have an overnight at POP in February also! Mostly because it is cheap and, yes, less likely to be impacted by thunderstorms.

Yes, the Skyliner will go down for lightning. If light strikes within a curtain mile from any of the SL lines or stations, operations stop till the lightning clears the entire system. Summer time, it happens often, welcome to Florida. They will operate in the rain and wind but at a curtain sustained wind speed, they will shut down. Its the same for all other forms of transportation, they have max. operating windows for conditions.
The SL can move more people than any other form of transportation on property.
A few things to keep in mind that keep the lines moving. Stay behind the white line on the load platform. Know how many people are in your party. No more than ten heads. If you have a bird on your shoulder, the bird counts, i kid you not. There is no exception to the ten rule, size don’t matter, you holding a child don’t matter.
Enter the cabin you are assigned to. Six people decide they want the cabin behind the cabin they were assigned to and the loader sends five people to that cabin, the line stops.
Enter the cabin quickly and safely. Hanging out the cabin waving your buddy who just showed up, will stop the line.
Please remain seated. You stand up, the kids are standing doing a dance, the line will stop.
Fold your stroller before you get to the load line. You wait till your family jumps in and you fold the double stroller, you pop corn bucket, bubble wand fall on the platform, your family keeps moving, the line stops.
Exit the SL, all the past the yellow line. Don’t hold on to the cabin, dont stand next to the cabin holding someone’s to help them out. If they need assistance, they can slow the line down. Not crossing the yellow safety line is a big cause of stoppages.

I depends on the weather, the time of day and where you get on. I rode it to test how long it took from Epcot to HS and then back again. Each way it was 20 min. I also rode it one day from HS to Epcot just for the heck of it, I don't remember what time of day it was but I stood in line at the transfer station for 20 min.

I'm one of the few people who isn't a fan and won't stay in a resort that just has the Sky liner as transport to HS and Epcot. They are my two favorite parks so we tend to go to Epcot every single day of a trip. We don't mind the buses but then we have been going since that was all there was and we are never in a hurry. My son likes to say if you have ever taken the UGA buses you will think the Disney buses are a piece of cake.

I know this question is not related to the OP's topic, but I was curious and there's a lot of people on this thread who know a lot more about the Skyliner than me, so I thought I'd ask.

If you're staying at the Riviera and wanting to go to Epcot at a peak time, say around park opening, is there a risk that you have to wait ages get on the Skyliner because all the cabins passing through are already full with people coming from Caribbean Beach, AoA or POP? Or do they leave some cabins deliberately empty as they leave CB just for that eventuality?

In the past, as the wait gets long, they’ll request that gondolas be sent through empty. Also, the last time we were there, they were adding guests to half full gondolas.

Yes, there are three levels of the amount of “empty cabins” that get sent from the Caribbean Beach station to Riviera. Same way from Epcot to the Riviera station. All pending on the amount of people traveling in each direction.
They will also fill cabins as they come through if it starts backing up. Just like a boat, bus or monorail, it is public transportation and at busy times you will sit with other people. But, unlike a bus or monorail, everyone is seated and there is nobody standing up two feet in front of your nose.
All lines are five minute journeys from point A to point B, except the ride from Riviera to Epcot and Epcot to Riviera which is approximately 8 - 10 minutes.
It is also a requirement that shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.
