Thinking of trading in our 09 toy hauler trailer (that we bought brand new) and buying a used class A (gas ford v-10). We love our trailer but the 1100 mile drive is getting old and I think it would be better in a class A. So tell me what I need to know. Thanks.

What we like best is setting up. The coach is cool, not like walking into a "hot box". The same applies as we travel. When we stop in a rest area it's cool inside. If we're going to stop for a while fire up the geny, turn on the roof air. If it's raining you don't have to get out to get to the potty.

We've had 3 TT, 2 FW and we're on our 2nd MH and we won't go back. I love driving it as well, much more relaxed.

JMHO..

Go and drive some before you do anything. The suspension and chassis on some models can wear you out. The Ford V10 is a great model. Also, don't discount the FRED. Go to a big RV dealer and drive some first to see how you like the feel of it on the road. If possible drive it in city traffic and on an interstate. You also might want to drive some diesels. If you go for a class A gasser, try to find one around the 36' mark. Anything longer is more difficult to handle and has a lot of rear end swing. You'll want at least 2 slides.

We've had both TT's and MH's up to 45'. We find Class A's much easier all the way around.

Michael I know nothing about motorhomes but one model I've seen that I like is the Hurricane. Saw a couple on Ebay.

That's an RV Clark!

That's all I know.

And the crapper's full (or something like that)

Yep that drive from Texas is long! It is starting to get to us also but like you love the Fort. So we made the same decision as you. Originally we were going to upgrade to a TT but decided this would help the drive and allow the kids to bring friends. We started looking a couple of weeks ago at Class A's. Have you looked at PPL in Houston? Online they seem to have a lot of used ones.

If you get an RV, don't let Good Sam TELL you where they are going to tow it. YOU tell them.;)

Just don't get Good Sam's. Living in an RV neighborhood, I've heard some real horror stories about G.S. We have AAA, only used it once (thankfully). They arrived within 30 mins during 5pm traffic & took it where we told them to.

Deb, I even had trouble with AAA they couldn't even provide service for a flat tire in Indianapolis. I personally would go with Coach Net. That is the provider of choice with FMCA as well.

We have had both MH and TT. I sold my MH last year and just kept the TT. Now I wish I had both again. I need a MH for my New Years plans I would be really hard to pull off with the TT. I do miss being able to park in Disney parking lots the day we leave and do a park with the Dogs in the A/C of the MH. Now with the TT we just have to leave and drive home. I do love having a Tow vehicle with the TT so we are not stuck just at any campground and I love the room in the TT.

If the gas engine has the power you need I dont know that I would pay the extra for diesel given the price of it vs gas, I love my oil burner but financially it doesnt make as much sense as it used to.

I agree that a MH is the way to go for long trips, I just cant swing the price.
(plus all my stuff is paid for and I am getting frugal these days)

I agree.

Have had a few trailers and now have a motorhome. I like the idea of having everything right there while traveling. Stopping for a quick overnight is nothing. Just turn around and hit the bed. With others in there, it's also easy to have a sandwich made or a drink brought up to you while you're putting the miles on. With a trailer, it always seemed like you were still traveling in a regular vehicle, separated from the living area, which you are. The length is actually shorter in the motorhome than with the T.V. and trailer too. The trailer and T.V were almost 50 feet and the motorhome is only 34. We also have a LOT more storage in the motorhome than either of the trailers. There's my 2 Cents.

It's always good to know the alternatives. :thumbsup2

As far as not having a vehicle to drive - get a tow dolly. That way you can tow any vehicle without having to get a vehicle modified for a tow bar and brake buddy.

We bought a used (14k miles) V10 Ford Class A from PPL in 2008. It was like new (chasis was under waranty) and we have had a great time with it. moved up from a FW and will never go back. Nothing against the trailers we owned, but something about the class A seems more like home. esp on that over night drive from h'town to wdw :)

I have a 20' lowboy trailer that I would pull behind it with 2 golf carts on it or the wife's Tacoma. So with a 30' motor home I would be over 50' but my truck and trailer now are right at 60'

We had a great experience with PPL. We had actuallly contracted to buy a MH a year before. We found several issues that the owner would not agree to fix and PPL was quick to let us out of the deal. I will add that (1) please review and understand their cost structure (buy and sell) and (2) realize that looking at the internet photos isnt the same as looking in person. But they are straight up folks to deal with IMHO.
