Proposal Ideas

Hi Dis-buds,

So me and my girlfriend are both huge Disney nerds. Disneyland ecspecially is our home park and a very special place to us both. Things are moving forward and I plan to ask her to marry me sometime in the next 6 to 9 months.

I'd love to propose to her at Club 33 obviously, as it is a bucket list place for her, but that's not very practical (unless you fine folks know something I don't).

So having said that, any ideas for where to propose that don't include in front of the castle or by the wishing well or during fireworks. Those three have all been done by friends of ours and I'd like to be a bit more creative.

I'm thinking maybe on the sailing ship columbia and as the sun is setting just before it pulls back to the dock. But even that idea, any ways to improve on it, make it more special?

Napa Rose is pretty much the next best thing to Club 33 as far as special restaurants at Disneyland Resort are concerned. It's pricey, but most people agree it's worth it, especially if you can do the Chef's counter!

What about on The Lilly Belle? Or Court of Angels? Or if you could pass a note to your skipper on The Jungle Cruise?

Do you have a special ride? Or a place that is really special only to you? I would think about that and work from there.

I do love the Chef's counter at Napa Rose, but I think that would delight my heart more than hers (as I'm a foodie and she isn't). She wants to do Club 33 as a Dis-fanatic, not for food. But boy... I LOVE NAPA ROSE!

Jungle Cruise is a special ride, and that's also why I was thinking of the Mark Twain (I think I said sailing ship columbia, better name, not as cool as the Mark Twain though).

We both also love World of Color, wonder if there is a good time during that.

Actually, Carthay Circle is absolutely amazing (many people that have been to both have said they like it better than Club 33) and may be a good option, you can also get reserved space for WOC that night and be able to show up as little as 15 minutes in advance for the show and still get a great spot.

Would she want a public proposal or something private? That might help people make helpful suggestions.

You could actually do a somewhat quiet proposal after World of Color, while the crowds are filing out...or if you want really private, you could watch World of Color from the wrong side (you miss the projections but it's very alone and I can see where it could be very romantic) and propose there at any point in the show that isn't very fountain-heavy. I think I'd break down crying at a proposal during "Define Dancing." :) Or IN the Sleeping Beauty castle walkthrough could be really neat, if not 100% private.

You can't 100% count on the Mark Twain running during your trip, though usually if it's not, the Columbia is. I'd probably have 2 different plans, just in case one option doesn't work out for whatever reason.

Anything involving the Jungle Cruise would probably end up being rather showy; at the least, you'd have a boatful of people. Some women would find that enchanting and others would be appalled!

Have you thought of sending her on a scavenger hunt to and through DLR? I bet the CMs and staff there would totally help you! My DH did something similar in LA with the cooperation of the staff of 2 restaurants and a hotel. The rat led me to believe it was all about the promise ring which I got before heading back to the hotel where I got the final clue right before going into a hotel room at the hotel where we had our first date at the bar there and he had spelled out in rose petals "Will U Marry Me?" on the bed and was waiting in a tux on bended knee with the ring in hand. You could do something like that leading to the swanky suite at DLH and have champagne chilling with some sweet treats! I will say the clues have made for an awesome scrapbook. Just be sure to get a pic of the rose petals and room beforehand and be sure to get a staff member to snap a pic right after! If the suite is not your style or you don't have gobs of money around, the clues could also lead to the boat for the cruise.

My DS5 said to ask her to marry you on Splash Mountain. Or any ride, because rides are awesome.

Your son would have been perfect for me! Lol. As long as it wasn't IASW.

For the poster, I like the idea of the fireworks--I saw a proposal there once. For $50 I believe you can enlist Brian from Mouse Expeditions to hold a spot for you for excellent viewing.
God luck!

If you do it on Mark Twain ask to Captain the ship and ask her in the wheelhouse, that would be super unique. :)
My BFF was proposed to in front of the wishing well, now that that's taken I think it would be so romantic to be proposed to on the Storybook Canals, at night, under the rose arches, where the music from Aladdin plays and the lights twinkle. :) I'm pretty sure if you talked to the CMs earlier in the day and asked they could get you a private boat and you might be able to time it so the fireworks are going off over head. :) That would be an amazing proposal IMO. :)

DD16 and I ate at Club 33 on her birthday, the following day we ate at Carthay and both were simply amazing! :) So consider Carthay as well.
Congrats!

A friend of mine actually just did this exact thing two weeks ago. He talked to a CM and somehow arranged for them to get their own boat for Splash Mountain. (I think they rode it once, then he acted like he forgot something on the boat - went back and talked to the CM discreetly for their next time through) Then he proposed to her at the drop where the ride picture is taken. He timed it just right, they were almost out of the picture but the moment was captured. He had her sit behind him so you could see her face. She had no idea it was going to happen.

The picture is awesome!

I'd be scared to do it on Space, what if he dropped the ring? LOL

The Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour is a nice way to learn about Walt and Disneyland and goes into the lobby of Club 33. If you wanted to involve the Club, but don't need to eat there, you could do that. There's a nice painting on the wall there for a nice photo of the two of you.

Just a thought since you mentioned Club 33.

If you are a AAA member or an annual passholder there is a discount on the tour.

Hope this helps,

I saw a YouTube video once were the guy recruited the help of Main Street performers. They pulled her out of the croustade, sang to her and introduced her. Really public, but awesome!

Thought this one was creative!

...hmmm, that link didn't work...standby!

...Ok, how do you post a pic in a reply?

I was thinking Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour, too, but I was thinking maybe in Walt's Apartment. You could talk to the Tour Operator beforehand, and maybe something could be set up.

I know you've already tasted Carthay Circle. :goodvibes

LOL, if it were me I would use a fake ring and give her the real one later. I'll have to ask my friend how he handled that on Splash.

LOL You'll have to let us know. :) I'd use a fake one too but I'd still worry....haha
