Prop 8 Overturned!

Actually unless it has been changed (possible I don't follow this that close) they can't. The governer made a law (since he hated that same sex marriage was allowed at all) that you couldn't marry in MA if the marriage would not be legal in your home state. His reasoning was that he didn't want massive numbers of gays traveling to MA to get married. (Personally I was thinking, why not? we could use the tourism money!)

I don't think this is the case ... that did not hold up.
Gay couples can come here and marry - but it may not hold up in their home state

Ah thanks Wally. I wondered about that... I was pretty sure we could marry in MA, although it would not be valid here in FL.

Talk about stupid, eh? :confused3

I wonder if we traveled to each state that allowed same gendered marriage, and married there... would we then be legal enough? Yeah, I know. Only in those states... :sad2:

well some couples have - and have gone back to their perspective home states and filed challenges. :flower3:

Do we have to be a Massachusetts resident?
No. Until July 31, 2008, an old law that dated back to 1913 restricted outof
state couples from marrying in Massachusetts unless they resided in Rhode
Island or New Mexico OR unless they expressed an intent to reside in
Massachusetts (NOTE: New York couples were also allowed to marry in
Massachusetts prior to July 6, 2006 without needing to express an intent to
reside in Massachusetts as were California couples after June 16, 2008). On
July 31, 2008, the law that prevented most out-of-state couples from marrying
in Massachusetts, unless they expressed an intent to reside here, was repealed,
and so effective that date any couple from anywhere in the world, same-sex or
different-sex, can marry in Massachusetts if otherwise qualified without
needing to express an intent to reside there.

Who were you listening to? Michael or Frank? Or someone else? I like OutQ for the most part, but Michael goes on something awful once in awhile! LOL.

I think it's great how we can discuss this current events topic without rancor here on the GLBT board.

Thank you all for your comments and courtesy!!!

I listen to Michael. He's on when I'm driving home from work. The one week I worked late a lot and listened to Derek and Romaine...that was funny stuff!

Of course it's RI

well we can always hope for Fla. Some of the political reports i have seen say that Fla is becoming a lot more middle of the road and liberal every year. So dont give up on us yet:dance3: were still fighting

Connecticut provides same sex marriage regardless of residency.

"For non-resident couples, the couple must apply for the marriage license in the town where the ceremony takes place."

We also have some really pretty areas, one of which I am particularly fond is Gay City State Park. No, really, no joke. I recommend October, when the leaves turn.
