Project Runway Season 9 Starts July 28th!

I stopped watching the week they kicked Bert off. I even took it off the DVR, if Bert didn't win I was OK if Viktor won, but if any of the other people won (I can't even call them designers anymore) I was done with the show. I am now done with the show.

Okay. I'm not defending the decision - I still think Bert should have won (okay, okay, fine - Viktor!) - but it's Project Runway, not Project Sewing. Unless the rules require sewing ability, that's not grounds to eliminate/disqualify someone. Yeah. I know. Try telling that to the designers eliminated for not hemming... ;).

See, I disagree. The judges consistently praise contestants for their tailoring skills, not to mention Rule #1 is that they do their own sewing; otherwise, why not give each a sewing team & let them simply design?

Don't get me wrong, I loved Anya's clothing & she'll do well. But her collection was one trick pony & in the past the judges were very critical of that aspect. I.E., it's been mentioned Uli was criticized for using so many prints and IIRC, Austin Scarlett was also snubbed for doing too many gowns, his signature look. "Change it up, do some separates" used to be a PR mantra.

Since moving to Lifetime, the focus is more on drama - and what more dramatic than to have a winner that only sewed for 4 months?

The problem with this is that in previous seasons the designers were penalized if their garments were not properly tailored and sewn. In the finale it was essential that they all sew their own garments and that the finished products were impeccable. Designers were also criticized if the collection was not a well rounded collection so when you compare a collection that is well balanced with one that has one note throughout it is difficult to agree with the decision.

I liked Anya's collection, I would wear some of those garments. I just am not sure that the judges gave fair consideration to all of the contestants and used the same criteria for each of them.

I believe that there is a great deal of money that is generated from sales of the garments and the judges felt that Anya's collection would bring the highest return.

I guarantee they gave them the extra $500 so Anya could fix her collection
She sewed 3-4 pieces in that 2 days and i will bet NONE of them were hemmed-and we saw her SEWING A DRESS ON A MODEL:sad2:

I'm done-this show is an insult to the people who go to school for this and, to quote Joshua- can set a sleeve;)
There were just too many times this season that the challenge suddenly changed to her advantage. It was really pretty pathetic.

Anya can choose a nice fabric. But that does not a designer make.

I do agree the show isn't up to the standards it held when it was on Bravo.

I'm okay with Anya winning. I do wonder if she can translate to something that will be marketable to a wide audience as the judges discussed. Overall the collections just weren't at the creative or execution levels I think worthy of a finale. I called Anya as winner when they walked out of the workroom for the final time -- she departed last w/ a very satisfied smile to the camera.

Really didn't want Josh to win because of his nastiness. I could have dealt w/ him winning if he came off w/ great stuff, but the moment I saw the fabrics he was using I couldn't shake the feeling he was dressing characters for their comic book debut.

When the judges pointed out Anya's v-neck parade, but acknowledged her skill & taste level in the plunges, how on earth could they not point out Josh's final creation? His 2.0 dress reboots of his failed jumpsuit were horrible & the 2nd one had that HIDEOUS v-neck.

Victor had my vote, but his sheer stuff was very disappointing. I liked bits and pieces of Kimberly's stuff, but I kind of think I kept giving her more credit than she deserved just because I like her.

Did Anya deserve the win? Not by a long shot. I was a Bert and Viktor fan. But DH and I have thought for weeks that anya would win. Week after week she is carried through even when she put out crap. No matter what the other judges say it all comes down to Nina. Nina has all the power.

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one thinking "Uli" when Anya's collection came down the runway. And all that season they were trying to get Uli out of her comfort zone of beach wear and sun dresses; this season they told Anya to "go back to her roots." I had the feeling that Uli didn't get the win that season because they knew that she'd get a job and be commercially successful without it; this season it seems that they gave Anya the win because they knew that she's be commercially successful.

I was sure that Josh would win, because I thought his collection was hideous.

For a few episodes I've had a question I've wanted to ask people who watch the show, but I've felt too awkward & mean.

Does anyone feel that this year's models overall weren't an asset to the designs? I understand that fashion runway models routinely strut the runway w/ some peculiar looks on their faces, but this was different. Several times lately I've felt the models weren't working the clothes to their best advantage, and I'm kind of ashamed to admit publicly I felt confused how some of them became models when they're just not attractive.

Last night during Josh's hair consultation there was a discussion about sleek ponytails. The hair stylist said, oh, it will look like patent leather out there. They cut to a shot of a blond model w/ a side-parted, supposedly slicked back ponytail? The front was not slicked anywhere close to sleek & the ponytail hung there lank, skimpy & not straight.

Have I just become a shallow wench, judging bitterly from my middle-aged, Mediocre Mary seat, or have quite a few of the models this season been a little lacking?

Michael Costello, Mondo, and Austin Scarlett-I've definitely gotta see this! See, that's one reason I love the DIS. I haven't seen the show advertised on TV, just here.

WOOOOO! So happy for Anya. She is super talented and a NICE person. I've loved her from day one!

Me too! She was my favorite the whole season!

BEST ENDING IN MANY SEASONS!!!

Wasn't Kenly that awful chick who did the retro clothes and made the rip-off wedding gown out of feathers. She had a LOUSY attitude.

When I was working in fashion, the salon sold a variety of garment types from off the rack to custom. I loathed it when a consultant without any sewing background would "design" something for a client. 90% of the time, they were not technically possible. Eventually, we had to issue a formal ban on the consultants even making design suggestions and everyone was much happier, especially our customers.

As much as I loathe Josh, I agree with him that if you cannot even set in a sleeve, you are not a designer. Knowledge of and skill in construction techniques is a long-term necessity in design work. You have to know what you CAN do, before you sell it.

But the reason I'm done with the show is that the blatant favoritism and manipulation to achieve a desired outcome is a turn off. So I'm turning it off.

YES!!!!!! And she was so nasty to Tim Gunn, which totally made me want to smack her!

exactly. Anya loses her money. TWIST: here's $50 to make a second garment. guess what? you only have to show ONE of the two garments you've made! yay! Anya saved!

Anya's rock star challenge pants are literally COMING APART! in year's past, this would've been an immediate "auf." not this year! and not that Olivier didn't need to go too. but seriously. SPLIT. PANTS.

Anya's three looks for the "show part of your collection" challenge were terrible. TWIST: you're all going to fashion week! yay! we can't get rid of Anya now!

Anya's finale collection was terrible. TWIST: here's $500 to do something. guess what? Anya buys more pretty prints and pins them together. wow! you win! you are so great! you can't sew anything, but you win anyway! Viktor's tailoring is impeccable. his taste is fantastic. but he "needs more time." are you kidding me?

seriously. i'm done with this show. the whole season was obviously set up like a Lifetime movie and i wouldn't be surprised if Anya was in on the entire thing.

They also didn't have any of those "fun" challanges this season. Like using stuff from a supermarket/pet store/party city, etc, or the Levi challange, only getting pairs of jeans for fabric, or using stuff found in a car (Saturn car challange). There wasn't any real "thinking outside the box" with materials.
