Programming garage door opener and keypad

Okay, so I lost my garage door remote. It disappeared somewhere between the kitchen and the garage. No biggie, I went to walmart and bought a universal remote replacement. They also had a wireless keypad opener, which seemed very handy so I got one of those too. So my son programmed the keypad, and voila! it worked! Simple. The next day, when I get a moment, I decide to program the remote. Voila! It worked too. Simple. Later that day, I try to use the keypad. Nothing. I think its a power issue because it doesnt light up or anything so I replace the battery. Still nothing. I enlist the aid of my dear son and he reprograms it and voila! It works. Simple. Then I leave to go shopping and try to use the remote, you guessed it...nothing! So does anyone know how to program these 2 together? They are made by the same manufacturer...Clicker...and I just assumed you could use both, but I can find nothing in the instructions that address it or on the website. ??????Help??

What brand garage door opener do you have?

The garage door opener is a liftmaster...It has the green smart-key. It was very easy to program each of the things , but they seem to cancel each other out.

I know some models don't work with universal remotes/keypads, but I thought Liftmaster did. (I work for a garage door company, but unfortunately I don't handle any of the technical stuff!) Our openers can only be used with our remotes as a security measure, and some have a rolling code technology that changes the code every time you use it.
