Hmm.
I ordered flowers to be delivered from ProFlowers. I had a $25 gc and they had a 15% off code on their website, so the flowers would have cost about $60. I paid $29.

This could be ENTIRELY my fault for not reading the website closely, but I figured I would comment on it in case anyone else somehow misses this memo.

The flowers arrive in a box. Some assembly required. So it is very much the same as buying flowers at the grocery store. You take the flowers out of the box, trim the ends, mix the "fresh flower" powder into the water, and arrange them in the vase.

I can't arrange flowers. That was the point of ordering them.

So I just spent $30 on flowers that look like they should have cost $5.99. I was expecting flowers from, you know, a florist. If I had paid $60 for them I would be irate.

Lesson learned.

I agree. I have received them in the past and they look like dead weeds. But it does explain that is how they come.

I went back to the website, and I see on the "About Us" page it does show flowers in a box. But I am not sure it would have registered with me that ALL of their arrangements come that way, even if I had looked at that page prior to ordering.

I agree...when the flowers arrive they don't look fantastic. But give it a little time. If you've put them in the vase and followed their directions as far as the nutrient and water, they will be beautiful in a couple of hours.

I've had deliveries from ProFlowers many, many times and have been more than satisfied. Every delivery from them has lasted at least 8-10 days, far longer than anything from a local florist.

In addition, I believe they have a satisfaction guarantee. They will replace your order if it does not last as advertised.

NOW I see this post! I ordered an arrangement for my 96 yr. old aunt. They just arrived today & she called me to thank me. She said something about having to take them out of the box but I thought maybe they were just shipped in a carton. I would not have sent her an arrangement if I had known there was "some assembly required"! She did say they were beautiful though.

Thanks for the heads up, maybe someone else will see it before they order.

Hi:
I went to order from them today and cancelled the order when they were going to charge me $27.00 for shipping. It was to be delivered tomorrow. I looked up a florist in my aunt's town and ordered a nicer bouquet that is "put together" and was to be delivered today for a shipping fee of only $7.50 and the bouquet was the same price as ProFlowers.

My experiences with Proflowers have all been great.
Yes, they do come in a box, and sometimes they do not look the greatest when they arrive, but they have always opened up to beautiful boquets. My niece sent lilies to my mom's funeral, and when the funeral parlor put them out, they did look a little pathetic. Within two days, though, they opened up into the most gorgeous, humongous lilies I have ever seen. They ship them so they will last at least a week after you receive the flowers.

Hopefully they will open up by dinner on Christmas Day! :)

I am simply pathetic at floral arrangements. I literally took them out of the plastic, held the bunch with one hand while I snipped off the ends witht he other hand, and stuck them in the vase. Maybe once the blossoms open a bit I will be able to arrange them in a nicer fashion.

I did follow the directions for putting them in room temperature water with a packet of the preservative, so I'll see what happens from here.

I wouldn't complain to the company because it really is my bad for not researching more carefully. I just wasn't expecting them to arrive in a box.

My bf sent me some beautiful tulips from Proflowers for my birthday a couple of years ago. They lasted a lot longer than any flowers I've received from a florist. I think they get a bad rap as you don't get the immediate "Wow" factor as you do with flowers from a florist. My co-worker at the time (after seeing that I had received flowers in a box) said she would be annoyed if a guy sent her flowers in a box :confused3. I thought they were great :lovestruc. The tulips were all closed when I first got them and they opened up by the next day.

I highly recommend calling a florist in the town where you want flowers delivered. It's almost always cheaper and you can specify exactly what you want.

The reason I ordered from ProFlowers was because I had the gift certificate. I hadn't really even intended to buy flowers, but since I had the certificate I figured I might as well.

I love ProFlowers and that is where I usually order flowers from because I know that their flowers are fresh and will last longer than a florist's arrangement. Plus, part of the fun for me is arranging them myself. I do see where you might be disappointed if you didn't know what to expect. If I am ordering a gift that I don't want the recipient to have to arrange, I'll order one of their plants. Btw, they have excellent customer service, too.

I have been using Proflowers for a few years now and have been completely satisified each time I use them. I usually order from them a week prior so I can avoid the extra delivery charges. Each time I have received flowers from them I do have to put them in the vase but they are simply gorgeous within a few hours! :daisy:

I bought dendrobium orchids from them once, and I was SO disappointed. They took forever to ship, and when they finally arrived they lasted less than 3 days (usually these orchids last 2 weeks or more)
It wasn't a "arrangement" per se, so I never even noticed they were loose

Hopefully, they will open up in a bit. I've had flowers from them a couple of times and they always open up beautifully and last a long time. Their customer service can't be beat, either. Once, I got a delivery in the middle of summer (98 degree heat) and the delivery guy just left them on my front step. I was out all day and got home to find some pretty sad looking roses inside. I called ProFlowers to let them know that they might want to tell their delivery people not to leave fresh flowers sitting out like that when you don't know if/when the homeowner will return. They couldn't have been nicer about it and sent me out a replacement bouquet immediately, which lasted a good 2 weeks, far longer than any other roses I've ever purchased.

Exactly. This poster is completely right. I am a florist. More specifically my family owns a 65+ year old flower shop and I am the 4th generation in our totally family owned business. My parents do the flowers - I do the bookkeeping and paperwork.

ProFlowers is a straight from the wholesaler deal. That is why it SEEMS cheaper. Most people do not have the designing skills to make beautiful arrangements and that is why they hire a florist. Plus we deliver for a nominal fee (much less than the ProFlowers and 1800Flowers fees) and that is an almost lost art- the personal home delivery.

I spent 6.5 hours today, yesterday and Monday delivering Christmas centerpeices and holiday arrangements all over our county and I can tell you that those people, especially the elderly ones, are thrilled when I knock on their door with a smile. Almost no other business nowadays makes personal deliveries anymore...except us. And we will call to set up a deliver time that suits YOUR needs- before noon, after 5pm, etc. We don't just throw a box on your porch and hope a dog doesn't eat it.

And just one more cost saving tip for you- NEVER order flowers online from Teleflora or FTD... all they will do is charge you a HUGE fee and then call us! WE do your flowers! If you go online and look up the phone number for a flower shop in the town you need to send flowers to and call them directly then I guarantee it will save you at least 25%. You can tell the florist what you want (or we can give suggestions based on what is in season or what we have in stock that is the most beautiful and most fresh) and we will charge only a delivery fee based on how far out we have to drive to get it there.

ETA- fresh flowers from a reputable shop should last anywhere from 7-18 days depending on how hot your home is and other environmental factors. We get many compliments on how long ours last. We use the best from our wholesalers- there are ranges in quality just like in cashmere or any other product. For example, there are cheap short stem roses (as used by ProFlowers) that are so crappy and cheap- we never carry those. You can get those at grocery stores for $20 a dozen. They will not last like the highest quality long stems.

Sorry for the looonnng post- I just want to help others get a good deal and understand the behind the scenes regarding 'cheap' flowers...you get what you pay for.

Ha! It reminds me that while DH & I were dating he sent me tulips... and it's a good thing that we were on the phone when they arrived or I would have been even more confused than I already was. I received a box that contained a woven basket with dirt & moss in it. The tulips were not even poking up out of the soil yet!

Once they actually bloomed they were beautiful, and we have gotten quite a few laughs out of that story over the years!

My DH ordered some flowers from them once for his Mother. They were dead upon arrival. We have a wonderful place locally that delivers beautiful arrangements that we are very happy with. He said he tried Pro Flowers on the recommendation of his buddy-who is very cheap by the way. Lesson learned!

That's funny! :rotfl2:

I have to say we have some AMAZING local florists. If I had really thought about it, I would have just gone to a florist and bought flowers to hand carry back home. That just wasn't how it happened. This time. ;) My intent this time was just to use that certificate.

I ordered an arrangement from them last Christmas. They were white lillies and they lasted maybe 2 days. I was furious. Contacted them and received a full refund. Never again. I ended up at the local grocery and the lillies lasted quite awhile and were beautiful.
