We're looking for a professional photographer to take some maternity pictures for us at the Magic Kingdom. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Disney Fine Art Photography might do this. I'm not sure. If so, it will be expensive.

There are a lot of local photographers that do great work in the Orlando area, but most can't take photos in the parks. They can do sessions at the resorts though. I personally recommend Jen Stevenson Photo. I've used her several times for photos at the resorts. She does a great job and is cheaper than Disney Fine Art Photography.

but most can't take photos in the parks.
Is that some kind of rule? My BIL took his fancy billion dollar camera last year and no one said anything. What is the different if someone who is not technically related takes the pictures?

I saw DFAP, but A) that costs about 30% of my vacation budget, so unless I'm willing no skip meals and walk to the park this won't work and B) they don't have any examples of Maternity photos.

We staying off-site at a vacation rental. I'm assuming that there is no rule about wondering around resorts taking pictures.

Yes it’s a rule. No paid photographers can do sessions in a Disney park unless it’s conteacted through Disney. Hotels and other areas you can use any photographer.

Can you point me to a Disney website that states this?

I'm actually wondering how they enforce the rule about outside photographers a well (not planning on bringing a professional photographer to the parks, just curios). How can they tell if someone is a professional photographer? I'm not a professional photographer but I always bring my big, professional looking camera because I love to take pictures at WDW and I've never had someone question me. My son is graduating this year and while we did Senior pictures in our hometown I want to take some pictures of him at WDW as well myself because it has been such a big part of our family. The professional who did my son's senior pictures looked no different taking his pictures outside than I do.

Yes it’s a rule at WDW. I’ve been looking at Disney Fine Art and have had someone who has actually done it share some info and samples of their sessions with me and I’m impressed. $400 for a session inside the park is really a deal, I am a photographer myself (not in FL) and that’s close to what I charge for a session NOT inside a theme park.

It’s usually pretty easy to tell. You can shoot your own photos, that’s not a problem. But it’s usually pretty obvious that there is a photographer with a family. And any photographer who values their business (and annual pass) would not want to take a risk get kicked out in front of a client anyways. Local people should know the rules, part of running a business!

I wouldn’t chance it with a non-approved photographer. If they get kicked out then you are out your photos, and money :-(

Thank you for this! Though it does state for commercial purposes. The pictures are for private purposes. We're not using them to sell a product or put on our company's website. Just for family and friends. Though I'm sure Disney's lawyers could make it mean whatever they want.

We had some friends say they would do it but they're out of town that week we're there.

If you make money from the session, that is commercial.

If you pay someone to take pictures for you, the photographer is using them for commercial purposes. ( even if you are just using them for friends and family

You asked for a professional photographer in original post.

According to 18 USCS § 31, term "used for commercial purposes" means the carriage of persons or property for any fare, fee, rate, charge or other consideration, or directly or indirectly in connection with any business, or other undertaking intended for profit.

Commercial purpose means for the photographer taking them, not for you. Assuming you are paying the photographer, the photographer is taking the photos for a commercial purpose.

If you don't want to pay the high price that Disney charges for in park photography, I really recommend you use an outside photographer and just take pictures at one of the resorts. There are tons of beautiful places on the resort grounds for photography.

Thank you stsomewhere. I was looking for a paid professional originally because I was ignorant of the rules. And our friend runs a photography business on the side, but that person would just be hanging out with us all day and happen to take pictures of us every now and then, but I'm sure that crosses into a grey area that I wouldn't want to risk the business for.

Can you recommend anyone? I certainly can't go back to be my pregnant wife and tell her no. You never tell a pregnant person "no" and live to tell the tale.

Honestly, the DFAP prices are very reasonable and in line with what a pro would charge. I would stick to theirs and take advatange of any early access they may get to the parks! We are probably going to be doing the same thing.

Randy Chapman is a reasonably priced local photographer who does family shoots as well as weddings at WDW. Also Cricket Photography, Regina Hyman Photography, The Roots. You could also venture into the weddings section of the board to see lots more local photographers.

My son and daughter in law did this last fall with the photo pass, the photographer took about 50 pictures for them and their 3 year old son to announce to the world she was expecting baby #2. He was very patient and the photos were beautiful. We even used baby mickey ears with the the 3 year old holding them and with all 3 of them with the castle in the background. Often later in the day the photographers are less busy and have time to spend with you. I am sure they would be happy to take some for you, good luck and let us know how it goes!
