Professional Internship Immediate NLIC?

I just applied to two different professional internships. I am definitely qualified for both, being a masters student with a 3.71 gpa, and almost 3 years of directly related full time work experience. For both applications I got the e-mail "At this time, we are considering other applicants whose background and experience more closely align with the qualifications and requirements of this position".

I'm really disappointing because it seems like my application just went through an automated filtering system, since I submitted it well after working hours and received a response within half an hour... I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong on my application since I feel like my experience and education should qualify me for at least a real person to review my application. Did anyone else have this experience? Does anyone have any insight as to how the initial computer scanning works and what it is filtering out specifically?

Thanks for your help!

If you don't mind me asking, what positions did you apply for, and for what season?

While it has never been confirmed, it is very commonly believed that the system does a sort of keyword search on applicants (it's not confirmed, but I have never had a recruiter dispute this statement).

I'm not in recruiting, so I can't be specific at all, but it's possible the teams you applied to already have interns that are extending into the next session, or maybe they are looking for bachelors students or students in a certain year.

With an immediate NLIC, I would guess that something in your profile triggered it. Any sort of criminal history, work authorization issue (there is a special way to apply I believe), or something similar could have made the system send out the notice.

I would go back through your applications and make sure everything is correct. Double check that the resume and cover letter were uploaded correctly. If everything looks good, go through your actual resume and see how your skills match up with the posting. If the posting asks for experience with a specific program, be sure to list it. If you can find a way to get the position title in there, do it (for example, when I applied for the web analytics internship I had a line similar to "experience in web analytics using -program-listed-in-posting). Make a custom resume for each posting you apply for if necessary

Once you have gone through everything, check to see if there are any other similar postings, apply for those. If you get the same immediate response, then something is up with your profile. You could try reaching out to casting, though they may not be very helpful at this point.

Best of luck with your search. The Disney process isnt always the easiest, but it is worth a shot

Thanks so much for your insight! I was applying for the Industrial Engineering Internship for Fall 2016 and the Workforce Mgmt Workload/Staffing Indus. Engineering Intern for Fall 2016.

I ended up reaching out to the generic professional interns email just to inquire about the reason, and to see if there is a way for me to better tailor my application for the future. It turns out that the reason I was rejected right away is because both positions require that the applicant is currently enrolled in a four year program, and since I'm a graduate student, I'm no longer eligible. It's pretty disappointing since I was hoping that the 4 year program was a minimum requirement, and since I already completed that, that I would still be considered. I guess it's possible to be over qualified... I definitely feel better knowing the reason, and that it wasn't something I was lacking that was getting me rejected right away.

I'm going to keep an eye out for positions that specifically state that it is for graduate students and hopefully I'll do better there! Anyways, hopefully this information will be helpful for someone else encountering the same issue. :earsboy:

I'm glad you got an answer! There are positions out there designed for just/accept graduate students, so keep looking!

Industrial engineering is huge at Disney, so that's a great place to be looking.

Have you looked into full time openings in Industrial Engineering? My daughter did 2 IE PI's in the past and still has friends working as IE's now. They had openings a few weeks ago. Disney employs the most IE's in the country.

Hi! Do you know if the full time positions were just titled Industrial Engineer? I've looked before and never saw them post any full time positions with this title, so I assumed they mostly hired for these internally... This is actually one of the main reasons I'm applying for PIs, and hoping it leads to something else!

Thanks!

Just looked on the Disney Career site and sadly they are down now. They were listed under Industrial Engineering. Many of the fulltime jobs will only be posted for a week or so .You might also look into other full time postings for analysts. I know that many of those positions also look for IE's. Best of luck in your job hunt!
