Problems with Sketchers?

Not sure if this the right place to post this. My son is pretty hard on shoes, but we thought it was because we were buying the cheap ones($20) from walmart, target, etc. So we thought since we were buying new shoes every 2-3 months, we buy sketchers and they'd last longer and he really wanted them too. So we bought them at the the end of march, but it was more like the middle of April before he started wearing them because of our weather. Well last week, we had to buy him a new pair ($20 ones), the sketchers were destroyed, the bottoms, the front, even the tounge part on the inside was wearing. I'm so mad, if you're going to charge almost $50 for a pair of shoes and gear them towards kids, make them a little more durable!! Anyone else have any problems with these?

My DD wears sketchers tennies for the past 2 years and has never had a problem. I buy them at the outlet, so I'm only paying $30 a pair. I think we've had 4 pairs?

Yes, I also think Scetchers are trash. I will never buy another pair. My DD wants the light/glow ones in the commercial and I said no way. She's had other brands that lasted longer than that, so I know it's the shoe and not my kid.

I still have Skechers from when I was in high school. Two or three pair. (I graduated 4 years ago, too.)

I've never had any problems with them- I buy boots, tennis shoes, etc.

my daughter is also pretty hard on shoes, so we never buy off brand ones, thinking they will last longer. Not Sketchers, I have tried three pair of this brand and everytime they wear out really fast, when she sees the commercial on TV, she tells me "those junk shoes are on again"

If I was you I would buy his sneakers at Sears.... They have the plan that if the item is unwearable that they will replace them for brand new. I sounds to me like you would get great useout of it!!!!:thumbsup2

I don't think a year and 2 months is too bad of a lifetime for a pair of kids' shoes. Are these the only shoes your DS mostly wears? The only time my kids' shoes last more than a year is when they take them off after school and change into crocs or sandals. One of my son wears his Nikes all the time and they're almost falling apart, he's had them since Oct. 2008. My DD has gotten 2 years out of her Skechers, but she wears crocs after school. We always buy either Skechers or Nike and have been happy with both of them.

Edit: I read this wrong, I'm sorry, if you meant April of this year I can see why you're unhappy! I agree with the previous poster about Sears, or maybe buying a cheaper pair of shoes for him to wear outside of school just for play.

Exactly what I was going to post!

I bought Sketchers in January and by April we needed another pair. My sons put holes in those shoes.

At Sears we just bring them in and they give us a new pair in the same size. They ran out of the style that we bought the first time, so they gave us Sketchers in a different style.

90% of the kids clothes or shoes we buy is from sears. :thumbsup2

Yeah-for the money you pay for Skechers, they are not a good value. They do not wear any better then the $15-20 shoes. I guess you are just paying for the name, which I do not need to do.

Did I read this right, Sears will replace Sketcher's if they wear out before my son grows out of them. I will go to Sears for his next pair. He had wide feet so Sketchers and Vans are the best fitting for him.
We bought him and DD Sketchers at the store in February for the buy one get one half sale. DS(8) have holes in the heals and the white banding around the bottom is coming off.

I will not buy the boys skechers; they simply do not hold up well and don't have good support. We buy Nikes, and they still need to be replaced every 3-4 mos b/c shoes wear out that quickly if they are worn every day.

Every running site you check will tell you to replace running shoes approx every 3 mos. My boys run a lot and they wear the same sneakers day after day, so I think that advice applies to kids' shoes, too.

We bought some Skechers for my son at the beginning of the school year and by winter they had a hole in the bottom of the sole. I got another pair for him and the bottoms were starting to wear on those also. I just bought a pair at Kohls because I got them for $20 and then found another pair at Von Maur on clearance for $15, so got those because I couldn't find any other brands that cheap and if they don't last, oh well.
I did also just find some Ed Hardy shoes at Von Maur for $13 each (used to be $53 each) and am hoping they last longer.
Now my younger son has Skechers and his have lasted all school year. I guess the older one is just harder on shoes.

My son only wears sketchers and it is not on purpose... they just always end up being the ones he likes. I have multiple pairs of shoes that he outgrew and still in decent condition. My son is very hard on shoes too. The may be scuffed but never falling apart. I also never pay full price. I signed up with famous footwear and I get all kinds of discounts. I only buy shoes there for the whole family. I get lots of coupons that way. I could not survive without famous footwear. I think you had bad luck and I would have gone back to the store to complain because 50 bucks is not chump change. The worst that would happen is they say no and you never shop at that store again and go to another one.

Cheers!

Some of the Sketchers we've bought have not held up. The bungee shoelace ones...the tread on the bottom started peeling off on one kids shoes. The other had something similar, but they were just too loose

Yes, I just bought a pair for my ds3 to wear to Disney. He wore them two times before we left and on our second day the part where the strap is sewn to the shoe came apart. I had a sewing kit with me, but the needle was not thick enough to get through the rubber part. I ended up safety pinning them together, but it would fall apart anyway. I sent them back when I got home on the 21st, but still haven't received a replacement. I paid $55 for them, which is a lot for a 3 year old, but I had had good luck in the past with Skechers. I can compare my sons pair with my oldest sons and see that the materials are just not as sturdy.

I have a pair I bought my freshmen year of HS(almost 14 years ago) and wore throughout HS and they are still in AMAZING condition! I can't vouch for them now, since that is the only pair I've owned and I think they are made cheaper than they used to be... :confused3 have you tried VANS?? they make great shoes and they last for a LONG LONG time...

Exactly! Make sure you sign up for the Sears Kidvantage program (it's free) and that's how it works. The rules say you need a receipt if exchanging something that is not a sears brand item. So, I saved the box the sketchers came in and had the receipt in the box (this was not the first time my kids had worn out a pair of sneakers), but when I went to exchange them the sales guy told me he didn't need to see the receipt. He just handed me a new pair of shoes. It couldn't possibly have been easier.

I've said this before on this thread (and others on the Dis)...I love Sears! :)

if you are going to spend $50, try Stride Rite:thumbsup2 DD has had lots of pairs and some of them were hand me downs from other kids and they never wear out it seems.

This is the best advice. Those shoes are hit or miss, I always buy our shoes from Sears, I bought a pair of lovely Sketchers for Hannah before Christmas at another place, and they wore out within 3 months. If I'd bought them from Sears they'd have gone back.

I didn't read through all of the previous posts, but I finally broke down and let my sons get Sketchers last month. I bought the Air Raders and Z-Straps shoes and they are JUNK! I am so digusted with them. I usually get them New Balance shoes and they are fantastic and only are outgrown...not worn out. I am never buying Sketchers again and I completely regret my moment of weakness in letting my boys convince me of how great the Sketchers were. In reality, they only wanted them because of Sketchers cool commercials.
