Problems with PTTD

I have done several 5Ks and 2 half marathons. I walk/run..with more walking than running.

I set a goal to do the WDW full marathon in 2013. However just before Christmas I was diagnosed with PTTD and haven't been able to do much since. I can walk but only for short periods (1-2 miles) right now. My physcial therapists says I need to increase my mileage very slowly and back off if I have pain.

I know I have a while to train yet but I'm getting worried that it isn't going to happen.

Anyone ever deal with PTTD? Suggestions?

Thanks.
Christine

Hi Christine!

I haven't dealt with PTTD, but have dealt with way too many other injuries over the last year, and I am heading back to the physical therapist tomorrow to deal with a recurrence of itbs.

My only piece of advice would be to try to keep your cardio up. I had to take about 10 weeks off last fall and was able to finish the Princess only about 10 minutes slower than last year. Not great, but I'll take it.

I found that, mentally I did better knowing that my legs were the issue and not my cardio. I was only able to bike (while seated) and pool run during those 10 weeks. I really think the pool running saved me during the half. I was tired, but not over tired. I am guessing that after my pt tomorrow I will be back in the pool.

Good luck with your recovery!
