Problem with rental car and ecv

Hi All,
I bought a package trip through Southwest which included a economy size rental car. I had no idea at the time I would need an ecv. I also had no idea I needed a mid size car(minimum) to move the thing around. I am staying off sight. I called Alamo to get an upgrade and they could not because it was part of a package and I would have to change thru Southwest. I called Southwest and they could change (or try to if available), but I would have to return my tickets and all and they would have to reissue. I wouldn't mind except I am leaving very early Tues morning after a holiday weekend and there is no way they would get the tickets back to me in time. The man at Walker Med supplies said I needed that large of a car. Anything I can do to try to resolve this?

I've been trying to think of some solution. All I can come up with is to upgrade once you get to the car rental and try for a rebate from Southwest. I hope someone else can think of something better.

I've been trying to think of something too, but I can't think of anything else besides trying to upgrade once you get there.
I checked on the Alamo site and all they list for economy size car is Chevy Metro or similar. I know they usually have more than one kind of car in each catergory. Maybe one of the other cars has a bigger trunk. If you are renting an ecv from one of the places that will deliver to your hotel, you won't have to transport it with all your luggage. Maybe you can find out the dimensions of the ecv from the place you are renting it. Then when you get to Alamo, you can ask for measurements of the trunk size and take the economy car with the biggest trunk.

Thanks Sue and Nanajo for your thoughts and efforts regarding this matter. Having exhausted my possibilities over the phone I figured I would have to try to do something face to face when I got there.
Hope you all have a pain-free day.

One thing you might do when you go to pick up the car is talk to the manager on duty and explain the situation. You might have to pay for an upgrade, in which case you could later talk to Southwest. However, if they have the cars available, or if they are out of "economyt" size cars, there is a good chance you could get the upgrade at no charge.
