Problem with Kidani stay

Yes, it's my responsibility to gather my stuff. But when Disney says a text that a room is ready, if it's a non-standard room like I got, shouldn't the text message note that? If it had, I would have gone right to the desk instead of the room.
If you go into MDE and hit show room number, it would have shown there that it was an accessible room. I always check there when I get the room ready text to make sure I’m getting the type of room I booked.

Sounds like it was a hassle to change rooms and likely the extra stress led to leaving some things behind. That said, I've found Disney to generally be very helpful for items left in a room, we once left a pair of expensive sunglasses behind and didn't realize it until they were delivered to our house a few weeks later! Never had an experience like that anywhere else and was very impressed. So maybe it's a hit or miss thing.

Good to know. I've never seen that. But I still think it should be included in the text message.

The stress was I had to leave the room open while running to the new room and back.

Yes, but if Bell Services had moved me all at once, instead of me having to leave the door OPEN and run between distant rooms, I would have had time to make sure everything was moved. DVC is supposed to be a deluxe experience. This surely wasn't.

Did they tell you to start moving yourself vs just waiting in the first room for bell services?

If so, that is the feedback I would send them because I have never had that happen when moving a room like that. We were once asked to move after going in the room and said bell services would come. It was just me but I did have my owners locker so I waited for them.

In terms of the other pieces? If it’s missing elements because of being accessible, I personally wouldn’t complain about that especially they did find you another room.

To give you hope about a lost item. I lost MB twice and I got them both back about a month or two after getting home!!

I went to the front desk. I asked why the room was different. The CM looked it up and said it's an "accessible" room, and would I like to move? I said yes, as I want a safe and place to hang my clothes for my 7 day stay. She made a phone call. She then asked me if I have anything in the room, as it is now locked and I can't get in. I said yes. She sent another CM with a master key to open the door for me. He did and left. I was later told by another CM that Bell Services should have been sent. I'm not complaining that they found me another room; that was great, even if it was very far from the lobby. I'm complaining that I lost an item (or actually 2, one item being told twice it was gone, and then getting a call that there was a mix-up and they had the coat). If that was the end of the story, I'd be fine.

I am still confused as to why you wouldn’t have asked for help from bell services since you knew you had so much?

Regardless, sending them your experience would help in the future.

In terms of lost items, unfortunately I don’t think that’s on Disney because it was simply an accident on your part.

The one thing I wanted to ask is are you sure the gps was left in the kidani room? You mentioned staying okw first and then driving over. Is it possible it was left in the okw room or maybe in rental car or maybe somewhere along path (if you checked bags any point). I only ask because I sometimes misremember and maybe wouldn’t hurt to put lost and found to okw or rental company.

Well, I'm a solo traveler. To go to the room, check it out, and then go back to my car and then go back to the room is a lot more work than I want on a vacation. And besides that, I never had a problem with a DVC room before, other than one time at OKW where the air conditioner duct at the kitchenette started pouring water from the ceiling after I had been there for an hour or so.
As far as the luggage cart: the CM who gave me the new room asked me if I had anything in the old room, as it was now locked, and I told her yes. And a CM later told me that Bell Services should have been sent to move me.
Sorry for the confusion. We bring our stuff- whatever we want in whatever room we end up in- either using a luggage cart or bringing it ourselves, but leave it outside the door ( with door propped open) or just inside while we check the room. A friend of ours had a bedbug nightmare and we are extra cautious!
But I'm confused I guess if you had a lot of stuff why you didn't mention that you needed a cart. How would they know? And it's not on them that you forgot your coat, imo. But its sounds like a lousy way to start your stay. I hope it turned around and you have a great vacation!

Good question. I carefully examined my memory as to where I could of lost the GPS. I drove my OKW to the Disney Outlet store on Vineland using the GPS. And then to Walmart. And then to Aldi on 192 using the GPS, and then to a nature walk I like in Celebration, using the GPS. And then from there to AKL using the GPS. At the under resort parking I took down the GPS and put it in its carrying case with neck strap. So I definitely know it got to AKL. I checked the car several times before returning it at the airport 6 days later, thinking maybe it fell off the passenger seat or was lost in the trunk, where I would normally have tossed it with the luggage while waiting for the room available text. Nope. I really doubt it fell off my neck between the car and the room. Therefore I am 95% certain I lost it in the original room.

Never occurred to me to leave my stuff outside the door. It never occurred to me to ask for help, as I'm kind of a do it myself type of person.
Yes, it's my fault I forgot about my coat and the GPS. But without being misled about the room it wouldn't have happened. But that also begs the question: if something is mistakenly left behind in a room should it disappear? I mean, I'm from New York City, and even things left on the subway are sometimes returned.

I am not sure what you mean about mislead. All the resorts have accessible rooms and some will get them if the resort is sold out if they don’t have guests who have requested them.

It was great that they had another room available to move you to. I agree that things should not disappear by is it possible that you left it in the car and someone took it from there?

As I said, don’t give up hope. It’s not been that long and I did get my things back from them a month or two later

I left an IPad on a JetBlue flight last January and I got it back end of February after I got the case closed email. It took that long to make it’s way to their main lost and found!

So, it’s very possible the same will happen for you!!

You need to develop a method to clear a room because that was obviously a disaster. And it was 💯 your fault. Clearing a room is done under all circumstances the same methodical way- unless it’s on fire or you’re seriously in jeopardy of missing your flight. This will change your travel life- it sure did mine!

Hotels rarely return lost stuff. Disney is actually pretty good but I’ve still had stuff I never got back from them. You leave it, you shouldn’t expect it back, the world isn’t that nice.

Hotels all over give out accessible rooms with no notification to those who don’t need them. It’s annoying but they practically all do it (and I’m kinda shocked you never experienced it before). Safe in the one I last had at Disney was actually the drawer of the nightstand so there very likely could have been one that you missed in your observation of the room.

I’d blame myself 🤷‍♂️
Good for you. I bought DVC to save on $550 a night rooms, and expect a level of service higher than at a $50 per night motel. When a room is listed with certain amenities, I should get them--or at least warned in advance that the room does not meet the advertised specifications.

Yeah, I DO have a method to clear a room. But when I do NOT have actual access to the room, it makes it kind of difficult to be more systematic. I have stayed at Disney many, many times since buying DVS in 2009, and never left anything behind before. But I've never had this situation before, except the time my OKW studio was getting flooded and they moved me to a 1 bedroom. And I didn't leave anything behind then, either.
Yeah, 100% my fault that I expected service from what is supposed to be a luxury resort. I pay a load of money for a room that is advertised as having certain amenities, but doesn't. I get another room, and left on my own to drag stuff out of a LOCKED room that I have no access to. That's some $550 night deluxe resort. I guess if you went to dinner and ordered surf and turf and were given macaroni and cheese because they were out of the surf and turf, but charged you for the surf and turf, that would be OK too.
I find it amazing that so many posters feel there is no obligation to return items to the customer.

We, too, had a room very similar to the one you are describing. However in our situation they were unable to provide us with another room as the resort was completely full. Were we happy, no, but someone was going to get stuck with it and apparently we won the lottery! You should feel very fortunate that they were able to move you to another room. As far as leaving items in the room, that is on me and my family. I am sorry that you misplaced your items and hope Disney is able to find and return them to you.

I think the point is not that they shouldn’t return it, but they can’t return something that they have not found.

They have a process and what we were told is that at the end of any night, found items are sent to a central location. If it was found, it might be in the system.

Or, during those few hours between when you left the room and realized it was missing, another guest had checked into that room and that is where it went.

If I was in a room and a CM asked if they could come in to look for a lost item, my answer would be no…tell me what it is and I will let you know if I find it.

It sounds like a bit of a whirlwind situation in which you didn’t ask for any help to move…or ask for a cart to use…and the CM didn’t ask you when they let you back in if you needed help…

At least now you are aware that DVC has accessible rooms thst are different and that as owners we all might end up with them.

It is weird there is no safe…Ana’s I am not sure why that would be missing from one…so definitely feedback they should get.

I assume the OP did not specifically add a request with MS to NOT be placed in an HA room? While HA rooms show when booking, and can be booked specifically, they are also part of the overall point total for the resort, and can be assigned to guests even if they were not specifically booked. At OKW it's generally easy to avoid HA studios and one bedrooms by requesting 2nd or 3rd floors, as all HA rooms are on the first floor at OKW because of the lack of elevators, except in builds 62, 63 and 64. This is not the case at any other resort. And at OKW, while there are several big differences between non-HA and HA room for studios (Shower, no tub, refrigerator may be in the sleeping area, not the kitchenette) , the differences are pretty minor (IMO) with one bedrooms, other than not having quite as many cupboards to allow for chair turning radius, the one bedrooms still have the big jetted tub, the shower is a little bit larger, and the commode is usually raised. I often travel with people only a few years older than I am that need to use scooter due to severe arthritis and a previously shattered femur. I'm grateful at 66, that I'm not at that stage of life, yet. I do have an issue with stairs, so I always request first floor at OKW, sometime they give me an HA room,, most of the time, they do not. I am fine with either accomodation as I usually stay in one bedrooms even on solo trips, and as I said the differences are pretty minor for them.
