All right, so I bought my dress and I am not having the alterations done at the store I purchased from. My dress should be coming in around June, and I know typically the earliest alterations start is 3-4 months before your wedding (which would be Septemberish for me). But... what do I do with my dress before then?? I can't keep it at my apartment--- it's tiny and I have no closet space! Will a seamstress/alterations dept typically let me keep it there? Anyone have any experience with this?? Thanks! :)

cant hurt to ask but i can't imagine anyone letting you store something for free? mine sucked up the enitre space of my closet for 6 months!

good luck!

Oh, I'd pay up the butt for it if they let me! I haven't started asking places yet though. But maybe DF doesn't need a closet... :P

:lmao: I love a good sense of humor! :thumbsup2

I went to go have alterations done when we originally planned for a May wedding, I went in at about 4 months...and I told them there was no rush. They also say that you sometimes have to go in two more times for trying it on and checking the fit and if it needs more alterations they would do more (which would be great in your case so they hold onto it longer!). It doesn't hurt to ask the company that is altering it if they will store it until closer to your big day.

There are companies that store furs. It makes sense to me if they would accommodate a wedding dress.

I purchased my gown back in the summer of 2008. Since DF and I live in a small apt, his aunt held onto it for me until this past Oct. You could always ask a family member who has the space to save some money if a seamstress couldn't hold it.

The shop where I ordered mine (Alfred Angelo's Belle dress) does alterations and will also keep the dress there until the day of the wedding (or whenever I want to pick it up) and will also steam the dress... for only about a $100 extra. that does not include the cost of whatever alterations will need to be done, of course.

ask your dress shop if they have anything like that... or if they have any suggestions for a seamstress that will hold onto the dress for you.

Alfred Angelo wouldn't hold mine and I couldn't leave it at my house bc my DF is nosy and would look. my cousin held it for me at her house until I started the alterations process.

I would suggest storing your dress with someone you know personally. Maid of honor. Bridesmaid. Even your mother or mother inlaws house. I couldnt trust leaving my dress with someone i dont know....kind of like a child! :lmao:

I should have explained myself a bit better--- I have no family near me because I move to Wisconsin for school in August and left my family and friends 1000 miles away in CT! I also purchased my dress in Florida, so it is going to be mailed to me. (I went shopping with my grandma, and I can't leave the dress with her as she will be back in CT by June)

While I do have friends here, I don't have a "best friend" or anything like that--- no one I would want to ask to hold onto my dress and all of my friends have tiny apartments too!

I think when the dress comes into the Alfred Angelo store I ordered from ( I got the Cinderella dress) i'll ask how long they can wait before they mail it to me. I do plan on contacting some local alterations departments this weekend to see if any of them can help a gal out. If not.... Looks like I will be closet less for awhile!
