Pro-activ?

I feel the need to post an update - since I had posted how much I am having success with this! I had an issue with their customer service this morning so I cancelled any future orders with them. I do have to admit I was speak to a manager at the time, but she cancelled it right away for me. I will go to a mall kiosk from now on to continue using it.

A tip for anyone using this.
Go to Wal-Mart and buy a cheaper brand. They also have the Pro-Activ brand. But there is another one which is a few dollars cheaper and it works just as well. I can't even think of the brand name right now.

It irritated my skin really badly. It was dry, flaky and red. Didn't do much for my acne either. I've also heard that some people tend to build up an immunity to it after awhile.

I use Pro-Activ for monthly breakouts.
Unless you have very oily skin I wouldn't advise using the 3-step system everyday.

Unfortunately pro activ did not work for my 2 Ds's. They had to go ot the dermatologist. Older DS had really bad acne and was on accutane for 4 months and his face cleared right up. Younger DS is on antibiotics and those worked for him. It is nice to know that it does work for some people.

It helped my daughter for a while, but now it's getting worse again. It will dry out your face and if you do not use moisturizer your body will create too much natural oil to counteract the dry skin. NOT what you want to happen! When she had to go on the birth control patch for 6 months to regulate her cycle, her skin cleared up beautifully. Now it's back to problem acne. Hope it works better for you. Also I have heard the same from other people - helps for a bit then goes back to how it originally was. :guilty:

If anyone is interested, the cheaper brand is called AcneFree.

Here's a website for it. http://www.acnefree.com/af
:)

And yes, you only want to use it for a little while then stop using it for a while.
You also want to use it only once per day for a couple days. Another thing, if you find it drying out your skin too much, do not use the 3rd step. And make sure to use suncreen after using this before going out in the sun. :)
This may be why some have an adverse reaction to it.

My DD19 tried it. Did not work. We were so bummed after their uplifting and positive infomercials. Anyway, the stuff the dermo prescribed worked much better. But lots of people swear by it - I think I would give it a try!

I swear by this product! :thumbsup2 I have been using it for over ten years. I use it faithfully every day, all three steps. If I slack off, it shows. You do have to find your own mix on how much to use. In the beginning, I did get red because I was using way too much. My kids are now teens and both of them use it. They went going through the same things I did. Some reddness and drying but I encouraged them to keep experimenting with quantity and they have finally found their balance.
Did you see that Kelly Clarkson is now one of their celebrity endorsers?

I can see it's a lot of mixed reviews. I guess it all depends on your skin type. Well mine should arrive sometime next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will work for me!!! Thanks for all the great advice!! :sunny:

parkers girl...I just bought some this evening but I was looking for an update from you? How is it going? If my thinking is correct it has been about a month for you now?

Just a followup in case anyone was wondering..I have been using Proactiv for almost 2 weeks now and I had to stop. I am going to take it back and get my money back. It made my face break out in a very fine rash, almost like a heat rash, and it made my face very itchy....It did seem to calm down the breakouts that I already had, but has not prevented more from popping up, and in the end the trade off of the sandpaper face was not worth it...guess I will switch back to my Estee Lauder line and keep on looking for a product that will help!

I tried this to save money. It is not the same. It made my face feel awful. Did nothing for my acne. I went back to proactiv. That was my experience anyway. I did try something from Target called Klear Action, I think. It worked much better than AF, but not as good as Proactiv.

I've been wanting to try this for a long time, and now DD wants to try it too. I think we are going to bite the bullet and give it a try. Would love some updates from previous posters :)
