I am considering buying dvc from a freind who is no longer using it. does anyone have experience with this? niether of us no where to begin.does anyone know of dvc exercising their ROFR? hoping for a good deal for both of us. thanks for any info!

DVC still practices ROFR so getting a good deal from a friend will be hard to do. There are others in this forum that track resales and the prices, whats passed and what hasn't. Depending on the resort you may be looking at a price of $75 to $90 per point to pass ROFR.

I agree with Brownie -- you're not going to be able to slide a low price by ROFR. Research the ROFR thread and be sure you price it high enough or Disney will snatch it away from you.

The process itself is pretty straightforward. I haven't done it myself, but others have and hopefully someone who has will come on and give you the information on that.

Can your friend "GIFT" it to you ???

Sort of like you would do to your children when your old.

Just a thought.

I would never do this I am just showing you what you could do.

I think your friend should call DVC retention And speak to SUE .

That would be the right thing to DO

Can your friend "GIFT" it to you then you both work out a payment plan out side of all that formal stuff.

Sort of like you would do to your children when your old and just work out the detail out side of the disney ROFR.

Just a thought.

I don't think that's an option. It smacks a bit of fraud.

Look it was not ment to be a wrong .

I was trying to think of a way to help .

I would not myself do that I am dvc greedy and second off when me and my wife pass our children will get gifted my membership or willed.

Now with that said we all do not know the extent of the friendship of the two .

If the friend wants to sell he should sell it at the reasonable limit .

The per point sale should be at a disney sales per point level Just have the member call Sue at DVC retention she can explane all of the ins and outs of selling per the disney guidlines.

Mike your not being abrupt.

With all the nerw enforceable changes I think we all need to let the club guide us ..

The new rule on Renting is a good case in point (I think that rule is a great one)

Let's be upfront about such a recommendation -- that would be dishonest, illegal, and fraudulent.

I've heard of ways to structure something like that so that it passes legal muster (admittedly in a transaction where there was not a third party with ROFR, so I'm not sure how that affects the reasoning), but it definitely violates the spirit of the law, if not the letter. Avoiding a third party's legal rights like that is (at the very least) unethical.

look on Timeshare stores resale listings above, pick the lowest price for that DVC, and price accordingly--there is a good chance you will pass ROFR, and it is the right thing to do---also, if WDW exercises ROFR, then you (buyer) can simply look and buy another similarly priced DVC from the Timeshare Store--you are not paying any more than you would have paid your friend.
And if DVC exercises ROFR, then your friend (the seller) is getting the same $ from DVC as he would from you. The only benefit to offering below that price and trying to get around DVC rules is that you (buyer) would be getting a better deal---but it is of no benefit to your friend (he would be getting less than if DVC exercises ROFR). good luck.
