We're in the process of taking down a row of bushes in front of the neighbors house. She is allergic to bee's and we've found 2 huge nests in them. We're waiting until next week as a big alumni parade is Sunday, and we dont want the yard all torn up as the parade goes right by us.

We need to put something back, and the landlord has basically said- whateva- I'm thinking some type of evergreen. As flowers of course attract bee's. We dont need it to be 'privacy' except that it will be planted in a row. We're thinking 5 of whatever we get will be perfect.

Any recommendations? A flowering bush that doesnt attract bees??? Thoughts??

HELP!

Don't assume that an evergreen won't attract bees. They will probably still build a hive in there if it is safe enough for them. DH learned that the hard was a couple weeks ago trimming out some evergreens in our yard!

My neighbor and I have arbovitaes between us and you can't see through them let alone walk through them. I like the looks of hemlocks better but the arbs are fine.

How about one of these? :rotfl:

J/K!!!

That's an agave plant. OMG, they're amazing. That stalk can grow up to 40 feet tall. There's a video on CNN's website about them. It's titled Growing, growing, Gone! It should be right on CNN's homepage under Watch Free Video.

aborvitaes are reasonably priced and grow quickly. We just planted a bunch along our back fence so we can eventually not see the slums in the neighborhood behind is. A local greenhouse was selling 1 gallon sized aborvitaes for $5 each

We have been changing the landscaping in our back yard and I wanted to plant a row of something that gets really tall to block out a section of the yard.
While watchinh HGTV one day, I saw the landscapers using bamboo as it can get up to 80 feet tall in 4 WEEKS!!!!

The only problem is, is that bamboo will spread like crazy if you don't plant it right. Apparently it can take over the whole yard, your neighbors yard, etc. :guilty:
So, in keeping that in mind...we will now be on to plan B. as soon as we come up with a plan B. :sunny:

Personally, I think the best way to get privacy from neighbors is a barbed wire stone wall with armed guards and attack dogs. But then again, I live in the city. :lmao: ;)

If you do go with an evergreen, I suggest Leyland Cypress, fast growing and a beautiful shape
