Priority Seating???

I know this is a dumb question but can someone please explain "Priority Seating" to me? I have read different things and now am confused. If I have a "Priority Seating" time is that not like a reservation and I get to sit when I get there? Please help.

WDW actually just changed the terminology on that because it was confusing people... Basically it is a "reservation per say" they know you are coming so you will be seated before a walk in party would be, but you will not necessarily be seated as soon as you arrive. Once you check in at the hostess stand you will be seated at the next avalaible table for your party size. It is usually right around the time you have booked, but you may have to wait a few minutes past. It is basically a reservations, but they are not "holding" a table for you... you will be seated before the walk ins as well as people that have later Priority Seatings than you that may have shown up early. They just like to confuse you with fancy names
