Prints from Digital Cameras QUESTION

When last I was at WDW, the only place you could get your pix downloaded and printed from a digital camera was Epcot. Does anyone know if this has changed? Is it now easier to get your pix downloaded at all locations in The World? Anyone remember prices? Thanx.

This seems to be a difficult question for even CM's to answer. Epcot is a definite and I was told MK was a possibility. I ended up buying an extra memory card and waiting until I got home. I went to Walmart and used their machine (does cropping etc.) and loved my photos.

Good luck
Sandy

I think I would buy extra memory cards too and get the photos printed when I get home.

There is a camera shop at the MK that might do this, but I don't know for sure.

When I was there last Sept there wasn't a spot for this that i could find. I mean what would they download them onto? If you have a 256MB memory card it will hold 900+ photos. I certainly don't want to pay for that many prints anywhere (usually .25+ a print)

My suggestion is to go to newegg.com and buy an extra memory card. THeir prices are some of the best on the net.

I JUST talked to a CM in Exposition Hall at MK and was told they do it and Epcot does, but they strongly believe they are the only ones in the World who do. Per print price is currently .59 (at least at MK), and I thought the CD price was VERY reasonable. $11.99 for 120 prints on a CDROM. If you are like me, and do not have membership to a Costco, this is not too bad. Currently, I pay that same CDROM price at my local Wolfe Camera WITH my discount, so I was impressed and it can be done in 4 hours. Per print can get pricey, but if you're going to print at home, as I often do, you might wanna consider what you pay for ink cartridges. Just my thoughts. Anyway...there's the answer.

Travel over to Shutterfly and get your first 15 pictures free. The service is amazing, quick, affordable, and the pictures are so crisp and clear! I cannot recommend it enough. Just give it a try.. it's worth it.

I take extra chips, and transfer them to a CD-ROM, crop them, and print them on my computer when I get home. I thought the advantage of a digital was NOT having to take anything anywhere for processing.

Paying $11.99 to have pictures transferred to a CDROM is a ripoff. Don't do it!! Save the money and put that towards buying an extra memory card. Burning pictures to a CD is easy and you should be able to do this from home very easily and for free! Upload the pictures you want prints of to services such as www.snapfish.com , www.shutterfly.com or www.ofoto.com and pay per print there. Most only charge about 29 cents a picture.

If you have a laptop you can download your pictures nightly to your hard drive and reuse the memory card.

Here is another hint for laptop users who have compact flash cards. Instead of hooking up the camera to the laptop you can buy a compact flash card reader that slips into the PCMCIA slot of your laptop. The benefit is that you are not wearing down the batteries on your camera to download the pictures to your laptop

Well, I don't have a laptop and my computer's a joke, so for me, the $11.99 is worth it. I already have two memory cards and it'd be a waste of money for me to buy another, as it'd never get used, so since it's not often that I go to WDW and download my pix, I figure it's worth the splurge. Plus, I'm an instant gratification kinda gal...like having my pix right away. Kinda nice to look over them on the plane on the way home. It's all a matter of preference. If money's a super big issue, then it may not be worth it, but if it's more about convenience, then I think it's a great deal.

I am not sure what the $11.99 CDROM is going to do for you in WDW if you don't have a laptop to view the pictures on. Paying 59 cents a picture is highway robbery but if it means that much to you then feel free to pay those prices. Since you don't have a laptop you will need to spend time in the photo shop at Disney deciding what pictures you want prints from which will take time away from your trip. If you already have two memory cards you should be able to take 1,000 photos before needing additional memory. I would hold off on making the CDs till you get home. Most local retailers will charge you alot less than $11.99 to transfer to CDROM or you could just ask a friend (or a kid) with a burner to do it for free.

I also prefer to wait till I get home to make prints because I only Kodak paper and most one hour photo shops have inferior quality machines and the technicians won't balance your photos. Once again YMMV.

What resolution do most of you experts use? I keep seeing hundreds of pics put on memory. I have 2 128 meg memory sticks and at the best quality it will hold 164 prints unless I use standard mode instead of fine and then 298. This will be my first trip to WDW with a digital.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 1 gig microdrive, and I can only get 179 prints at the highest resolution and middle compression. I'm afraid that some of these people who are getting 1000's of images on their memory are going to be very disappointed when they have them printed.

I use 3.1 MP resolution with 1:5 compression. With a 64 meg card it holds about 64 pictures.

I use a 1024x768 resolution and don't compress the pictures. I can print beautiful 8x10 photos without any distortion. I would not use a 1600x1200 resolution because the pictures files are so huge and I really don't need anything larger than 8x10. 1600x1200 is for professional qualilty and my point and shoot abilities are not that good. My 4x6 prints from a 1024x768 resolution are just as good as my 35mm photos. I get about 200 photos on a 128mb card. If I have two cards that is the equivalent to 17 rolls of 24 exposure film.

I am lucky enough to have a laptop so I download my photos every night. On average I take 100 photos a day with the digital because pictures tell a story. I don't print that many pictures though. I delete the bad ones and then make CD scrapbooks when I get home. Taking a 100 pictures a day is just not financially responsibly with a 35mm camera.

I'd also recommend purchasing yourself another memory card - you can purchase them for a good price from the internet. Then, upload your pictures to WalMart or Sam's and get them printed that way. It's much less expensive and you can pick the pictures that you want printed.

Do you print them or have them printed by an outside source such as Shutterfly?

I don't print from home. The quality is just not that good. I prefer to use shutterfly, snapfish or ofoto. I prefer professional photo printing. I have never been disappointed in the quality. Since I travel with a laptop I can upload to the services from my trip and they are already there by the time I get home. Sometimes while on vacation I will order a few shots and have them mailed to Grandma since she doesn't have a computer. It's sorta like very personalized post cards. The other thing is I don't want to relinquish my memory cards to a third party.
