Princess Weekend 2022

I won’t be getting in until late Friday night so I’ll be missing out on Expo shopping - I hope everyone posts their hauls so I can live vicariously through you since I expect pickings will be SLIM come Saturday lol!

I expect slim pickings for myself as well, even being there at 9am on Thursday lol. I'm just hoping I can grab one of the "I Did It!" shirts.

Or maybe a clothes rack with a rD price tag if nothing else is left?

Yep me too... I am not coming in till friday afternoon :( It is so sad they do not save stuff for us later people. My husband is happy though, he says it will save him money.

Great tips on the going-to-bed-early stuff.

Just left the orthopedic dr. and I'm out for the HM. But I can do the 10k. MRI shows that I had the beginning of a stress fracture in my tibia, and I haven't run for 2 weeks, so it's mostly healed now. But I can't go nuts because that will bring it back. I ran 3 miles today and doc said I shouldn't have done that. (no pain and I felt great running). He recommends a very slow ramp up (1/2 mile 3x week, then 1 mile 3x week, then 2 miles 3x week, then 4 miles...). I asked how bad it would be to run the 10k next weekend and he said I can do it - it's not going to make my legs fall off but it might set me back. I'd rather run/walk it to have my first run Disney experience I've been waiting for for 7 months(!), and then rest for 2 weeks when I get back, then do the very slow ramp up when I start again. But the HM is clearly out, even if I walk it. Doc also told me that on the days in between the slow ramp up runs I should avoid walking as much as possible. Um, ok. We leave for WDW tomorrow, and we're there for 9 days! We're going to take it easy at the parks, do half days, etc. but clearly there will be walking!

I'm also registered for the Spring Surprise, but that's really out now. I'll need to just focus on recovering for March and April. But Nov. Wine & Dine - here I come! And you better bet I will be doing the Princess HM 2023!

Question for those doing yoga and staying at a Disney resort..... I feel like the 3:30 resort bus pick up is just so EARLY! I'm debating just calling an uber around 4-4:15 so I can get a bit more sleep. I'll be at the Riveria. It can't possibly take 45 min to get to TTC in an uber at that hour, right? Anyone else thinking this, or should just do the bus and accept that there will be a lot of waiting around (yawn).

Also, for the 10k, what time are you guys getting on the bus from your resorts? I want to see the range. I am not looking to be there super duper early. Will I be ok getting on around 3:45? (I'll be at GF). Waiting around before a race is one of my least favorite things to do. Or is there really good Disney entertainment and things, and I won't be sorry if I'm there 90 min before the race starts? I'll be in a later corral - I'm 11:30min mile.

I'm glad you at least get to do something next weekend! It must be hard to have to scale back.

I have no idea what the pricing is like, but this seems like a situation where renting a scooter might be something to consider?

Get in line at 9am on the first day (Thursday)? You should see almost everything the expo has for sale. Near virtual lock you can get an I Did It shirt. A few hours after the expo opens is when things will dwindle more.

I guess only you can weigh the pros and cons of it from a personal standpoint. How much is gained from 30-45 min extra sleep vs the potential negatives that could occur (albeit at a small percentage)? You paid a lot of good money to do the Yoga, how much risk are you willing to incur something goes wrong and you don't get to do it for some bizarre reason? How much would this stress you out? In most cases, you should be able to get from Riveria to TTC in 45 min or less.

Also, for the 10k, what time are you guys getting on the bus from your resorts? I want to see the range. I am not looking to be there super duper early. Will I be ok getting on around 3:45? I'm getting on the first bus at 3:00am. I'll be at the pre-race meetup as soon as I arrive (come hang out with DIS'ers). Starting groups will open around 4:00am, s1 will move towards the start line at 4:30am, and race starts around 5:00am. I've got to do my stretches, use the bathroom, do a warm-up. Before I know it, the race is starting.

Last bus is at 4:30am, but per the guide they'd like you to arrive at EPCOT no later than 4:00am. So what are the off chances something goes wrong with your bus (traffic, bus breaks down, they go the wrong direction, etc.) and how much would the stress of not arriving on time personally effect you? For me, I get on the first bus to maximize my time in terms of all the things that could go wrong. Lots of money and time were spent getting to that moment, and for me the extra 30-45 min of sleep isn't worth the potential stress.

As for entertainment, they've got a DJ. Then around 4:30-4:45am is when the announcers come out and start doing their spiel. And the characters are on stage. They used to have pre-race pictures too, but I'm not sure if the recent races have those. Honestly, the entertainment isn't the draw for me. It's a reduction in stress for me. The time moves so fast.

I’m just doing the bus for yoga. I figure it’ll get me in the “getting up insanely early” mindset, and help me go to sleep earlier Thursday night.

As for the race arrivals, I’m with @DopeyBadger , better to get there early and eliminate the chance of being late. It’s my first rD weekend and I’m not gonna miss it because a bus driver got confused or something.

I just got myself a eye mask with built-in ear phones to try to sleep the night before. I have a hard time falling asleep while traveling without listening to a podcast or something and I can't just let my phone play through its speakers w/ sleep timer like I do at home since I'll have a friend staying with us. I take melatonin at night usually but might cut my dose so I'm more alert. I'm worried about oversleeping even though I'm up several times a night normally ...my husband and friend are just going to have to deal with my alarms going off at the ungodly hour yoga and HM morning.

Hi everyone! I'm running the Princess 10K and this is the first time where I'll have the option to drive myself to the start vs taking the bus (staying at Art of Animation). For those of you who have driven yourselves and also taken the bus, which one tends to be faster when leaving after the race? If driving yourself, is there typically bad traffic getting out of the parking area? If taking the bus, are they usually lined up and waiting or could there possibly be a lengthy wait? We are heading out on a cruise after the race and I found out that DCL transportation could be as early as 8am, so we're going to be rushing to make it in time! For reference, I'll be running around 11min per mile pace. I appreciate any insights, thank you!!

It is so sad they do not save stuff for us later people.

I'm sure this year is different because of supply chain yadda yadda, but after 2016 or so they really did restock as time went on. There's hope for future years.

Doc also told me that on the days in between the slow ramp up runs I should avoid walking as much as possible. Um, ok. We leave for WDW tomorrow, and we're there for 9 days! We're going to take it easy at the parks, do half days, etc. but clearly there will be walking!

I strongly, really, hugely, majorly, encourage you to look into renting a scooter.

The quote is on my old computer, but there was a cast member who was on the boards for forever (as a moderator he gave me my first demerit LOL), and he used a scooter. He had a quote about "Are you, right now, temporarily disabled? Would a scooter help you? Then use the scooter." It was so correct.

My then-husband injured his achilles while slowly ramping up a C25K program. He went to an orthopod who apparently missed all classes in medical school except for "judge the big guy" class, and didn't help. He didn't believe that my now-ex walked 2 miles every day to get to and from transit. And he didn't care one little bit about our impending trip to WDW. My then-husband was demoralized completely by the MD, and REFUSED to get a scooter despite me pleading with him to help himself even though the orthopod wouldn't. He did not. He used a cane. He injured his achilles more, and by the end of the trip was a painful mess because the cane was a touch too short and his whole body got involved in trying to stabilize. He did himself immense harm.

Please oh please consider the scooter. (not a wheelchair; pushing yourself all day will be very difficult since you don't normally use one, and pushing someone in a wheelchair isn't a walk in the park)

It’s my first rD weekend

Neat!

So… I just added two days to my trip. 🤣
I was concerned about snow/ice at the airport I am flying out of on Wednesday and Thursday. I don’t want to make my parents have to drive in it to take me to the airport (1 hour drive), and I didn’t want to stress over my flights being delayed/canceled.
I think I covered everything minus food (extra car rental days, hotel, and changed flight) with reward points or vouchers!
