Princess Weekend 2022

Alright royals, it's almost that time. Which means it is time to rewind and go back to August 25th, 2021. We all signed up for the Princess Weekend for a variety of reasons, and on that day we settled on some personal goals (link). So how did everyone do in their pre-race goals, and how are you feeling about your race weekend goals?

I haven't posted here in awhile, but I've been trying to catch up on the thread when I could. The long weekend means I have some time to regroup and get myself ready for Princess Weekend! I'm trying to allow myself to be in a better place mentally with this weekend and enjoy it, despite the shortcomings that I've experienced. I forgot I had posted goals here, so thank you for the reminder!

Princess Weekend Goals
Pre-Race Weekend:

- Be prepared! Last year I was not at all prepared for the rain and cold weather. This year I plan to have plenty of all-weather gear ready to go, with options that will work with whatever costume I go with. I was way too optimistic this year (ETA: 2020) and didn’t plan enough, despite all of the multiple warnings I’ve read here on the DIS. I don’t want to make that mistake again!
IN PROGRESS, BUT WILL BE ACHIEVED: I've already started packing some throwaway items (sweatpants, gloves, hand warmers) for the corrals and shorts/crops/leggings to wear for the races depending on the weather. I haven't really focused on the temps because I want to be prepared for different conditions, so I think I'll be good to go!

- FTC: Come up with a costume/run outfit that somehow incorporates the charity I'm running with (even if it's a ribbon or something small) for at least one of the races.
ACHIEVED: I forgot we're supposed to get a shirt from the charity until I saw them during the marathon, so I've already picked out and packed a matching skirt ✅

- FTC: Come to the half marathon (more formally) trained and ready. I’ve ran 4 half marathons (2 of them virtually), and I basically did my own thing for each one. This year I’m following a DopeyBadger plan for Marathon Weekend, and I hope to be able to continue a short plan afterwards to get me to Princess Weekend. I’ve enjoyed the 2 half marathons I’ve done at Princess, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it even more this year with proper training!
NOT ACHIEVED: With work and personal life insanity, and not having something formal on the calendar to keep myself on track, I didn't keep up with this one. I know I can finish the races but I wish I had reached out for a plan sooner. I can't guarantee that life wouldn't have gotten in the way anyway, but I think I do better with a firm plan and accountability. However, recent events have made me skip running due to a lack of safe places to run, and I can't beat myself up for that. My plan is still to have fun and enjoy it, so I'm going to try to focus on that and enjoy the race weekend.

Race Weekend:
- Have fun! I want to really take the time to soak in every moment of this race weekend. It'll be the first in-person weekend since the pandemic that I'll be able to be there for the entire weekend (first expo day through half marathon day), and I don't want to take a second of it for granted. I know a lot of people don't like this weekend, but Princess Weekend holds a special place in my heart and I can't wait to go back!
IN PROGRESS: I hope to remind myself of this and enjoy each moment. I have to get myself out of this negative headspace and allow myself to have fun!

- 5K: Stop for more characters! The 5K goes so quickly, and there are so few characters. I rarely stop for them in the 5K, figuring I'll do more in the other races, but I want to change that this year.
IN PROGRESS: Achievable if I remember this one!

I was extremely grateful to have fellow DIS runners offer to purchase some items for me at the MW expo since I wasn't able to attend until the last day. This was huge because all of the items I was looking for were gone by the last day. I'm planning to attend the expo on the first day for Princess, so please PM me if I can return the favor for a runner in need!

Looking forward to our first return to an in-person Princess Weekend!

At least no rain right?

I won't need to pack my long sleeve run shirts
I have packed at least one long sleeve.
It looks like the cool front that is hitting my area tonight may make it to Florida on Sunday (or maybe it’s something else, but the temp will be 15-20 degrees cooler on Monday). If the cool front comes through early…

Just got back off a red eye and while I was away I did a run in 70 degree weather (from NJ so been running in frigid temps for a while now)! It was soooo warm for me, but, I got 5 miles in. I haven’t gotten past 3-4 miles in over a year. So feeling motivated! And now I’m practicing with lack of sleep! Unplanned training but worthwhile! Have to decide now if I will wear shorts for the 10k.

I find myself in Disney during Princess and of course all the races are sold out. Has anyone found anywhere that has 5k bibs available? I’m not holding out hope but through I would try.

Dumb question, where can I find this info? :)
On the runDisney website, go to ‘Help & Support’ and select ‘Manage Account’. Once you log in, you should be able to see your registrations. Click on the event (maybe the race too if you have registered for multiples), and then there will be a button for your pass (with bib number).

Thank you!! I feel like there’s been a mistake, because my bib number feels very low for my 2:30-2:45 finish ETA 😅

Bib #13XX reporting for duty!

Weather Update

5k- 5am to 7am - T+D 126 to 126
10k - 5am to 8am - T+D 124 to 127
HM - 5am to 10am - T+D 127 to 137

HM much warmer than original forecasted. The other two are much the same. The 5k/10k are still “ok” and the HM is “not ideal” but not to the “bad” area.

Just a head's up - if the temps for Sunday keep sliding to the "hot" side, be prepared for Disney to do a fast start and release the corrals quickly to maximize the cool weather/darkness. That's what they did for the marathon in January. Usually it takes about an hour to get everyone started and they did it in 30 minutes.

So that means:
- GET TO YOUR CORRAL EARLY!!!! They were closing even the later corrals before the official start time.
- Those that have done the math and figured out approximately when you will be finishing for family members or how much of a cushion you might have on the balloon ladies, that could all go out the window. Have a back-up plan.
